1.17 fark me... was that the fastest on the day overall and if not... wtf was and what the hell was it set by?

Ni - that time was set by Ben (Racepace), although there was a very tough white R32 GTR keeping him honest all day!!! Although that car is much lighter than Ben's (cage, no interior etc..) It also got a 1:17, or maybe a 1:16, not sure....

I did a 1:29:75 in practice just following chris around and managed to wrecker the car on the first flying lap. Everybody I know knew I was going to crash it so it was fairly expected. I just wasn't expecting it to let go so quick, it didn't even have a chance to drift to the outside of the track. The gtst was very stiff through that part of the track were as this new car had some real suspension issues. It got very light over the top of the bend. My guess is it has stock shocks with height adjustable kits and stiff springs on them because there was hardly any compression dampening on them and it was very unstable and pogoed heaps. Also the tyres were very slipery. All in all it was my fault for pushing the car to hard. I was just expecting to much out of it! I really wanted a 1:27.

Good on you troy for the time you got out of your gtst. You finally got what you deserved after all the effort. Maybe my gtst can get the n1's, brakes and some good tyres on it while I fix the gtr.

Also does anybody have pics of my car before I crashed it? I don't have any:(

Was a good day, being Jacks pit crew and all, at least i got a couple of laps in the monster! haha

Rowdy: So sad to see your car in the shape it was, kind of brings a reality check to everyone (and the wrx that rolled it - now that was a mess!)

I haven't been on sandown but i've been told its very bumpy compared to P.I , so maybe that was also part of it as well Rowdy?

Thanks to all SAU VIC guys for making my day a great one! Didn't have the best times out there but it was good to have a go at Sandown. Hopefully I'll do more roadtrips down that way in future for days like this.

Special thanks goes to the guys who sat in the car with me and showed me a thing or two, and also to the guys who helped out with my little fire extinguisher problem. :D

I find it's a fast circuit. It's not the speed that scares me, it's the lack of run off space!!! lol. Maybe I'm use to tracks with a bit of run off space.

I don't know if Wilson will be in the car no more. He's hooked and he'll probably be out in his own car next time. I've created another monster.

I'm glad you enjoyed it mate! Next time your in VIC make sure you come and join us again.

Chris pulled a 1.23 before the gearbox lunched itself. I would have put bucks on 22s.

Yeah I only got 7 laps out, three of which were passenger laps. I thought I was taking it easy on the shifts, conscious of the new clutch, but the box decided otherwise. Still only done about 15laps total around sandown and I feel I can grab another 1.5 seconds out of my current setup. Didn't feel I was pushing the car all that hard yet.

Oh well.. Congrats to everyone on times. It's an interesting day out when all the big boys come down to play. Making me look slow and all. Hehe. more mods!

    • Excuse me, but 2) does apply 1) Would also apply if you consider how much is spent in the alternatives. Also there's the option of 3), buy one pre-built that you can put your family in (it's me, it's my car)   That said, I went on a ~500km drive the other day. I didn't use anything more adventurous than 3rd/4th gear at about ~3000RPM and 50% throttle and I was going as fast as anyone has any sense doing on a public road, with enough grip to the point where I didn't want to go any faster. I was obviously under the limit of the current car etc etc. MX5 with 2.5 N/A to achieve the same speed would be more fun for any road scenario. Maybe consider cams. I wouldn't boost it. The use case is just not there and it won't actually make the car more enjoyable unless you really do plan on wringing gears from 1st to 3rd (at least) at 100% WOT on a public road to 150+kmh.
    • Great if: 1. You had all of the money for everything else that is required  2. Lived in a country where you could actually do this and drive it legally on the road Sadly, neither applies to me As for the turbo, I am having second thoughts, mainly for engineering/registration legality reasons and insurance  Not saying I've finished doing stupid things that I probably should do to the MX5, but boost, and V8 engine swaps isn't on the cards Strange, but true
    • I like this page, better than that silly turbo kit   https://v8roadsters.com/product-category/engine-conversions/engine-conversion-lsx/engine-conversion-lsx-nc/
    • That would be my Shoei helmet
    • Yes shipping here can be a pain, was about to purchase timing belt replacement kit, but it tends to get expensive due to shipping (and customs if importing from non-EU which the UK now falls under).
