I've been offered a beautiful set of wheels and tyres at an unbeleivable price, but they couldn't supply the 18" package so offered me the 19"s at the same price. Is this a good idea as my suspension is pretty tight as it is. What are replacement tyres worth??

Any help appreciated.

Dave

keep looken dave IMHO 19" look the goods but if your cars a daily driver forget it, not worth the hassels.

If the 19" do turn the ride right off, you are going to be stuck with them for a little while untill you can unload them & get some smaller wheels.

What size tyre are they going to give u in the package? I can do some checking & find out what a middle of the range set of performance tyres is worth, if you like????

Just PM me if so & I could also get you a better deal on wheels & tyres

Cheers Mike

I've had 19's for at least 2yrs now, and i found them to be pretty much hassle free. Basically, the rolling diametre is only 1" bigger than the 18" rims, thus the 19" rims have the same amount of rubber as the 18" rim. What i have discovered though, is that you use more fuel with the 19", about 50km less per tank. I would also only use; f:235 and R:255, depending on your rim width.

Go for it! I've had 19's for about a year and i haven't had any dramas and mines a daily driver, and as for the fuel mine is the same as it was with 17's! Hankooks 265 35 19's will set you back anywhere from 310 - 450 depending on if you can get a good deal or not. Stop stalling and get them now, not only will it look the goods you'll love them 2!

how could u use more fuel for having bigger rims? :    how does that work out..
Simple physics. Larger rolling diameter requires more force to start/stop rolling. Force=Power=More Fuel Consumption. And we haven't yet considered the extra unsprung weight of the rims and tyres. Personally I really couldn't give a f*** about fuel consumption, just thought I would advise you. I've never looked back!
Usually in a skyline you tend to go through a set of rears in about 12 months.. $800 every 12 months for 19" tyres? Kind of expensive habbit...
Well if you intend to burn your rubber, i suggest you stick with 17's. Also you could pick up a great set of 19", Hankook silica Ventus tyres, for about $290-$330 each tyre.

Most fuel is generally consumed when taking off. Also 19's are generally heavier, so more fuel is used. This is based on my experience from the last 2.5yrs and also my mate's report after using them for 2 months (my car was off the road).

Yes which would mean it would show that less km's were done per tank.
You point may be valid, but with my std rims, my speedo was was out, when i first put on my 19" i had a speed check done on a dyno from 50-120km/h, @ 10km/h intervals, and found my speedo had become more accurate.

ie: When the speedo showed 70 i was actually doing 69 and when the speedo showed 110 the dyno read 108. Needless to say i was pleased with the result :D.

Guy & Girls a word of wise to you

Becareful who u get to fit your wheels as some tyre & mechanical places are only there to sell you the wheel & will not tell you what "IS BEST".:stupid:

The tyre can have the right size on the side wall but @ the same time you also need to know the over all rolling size of the tyre. (different brands have different rolling size belive it or not, same size i.e. 245/40/18 but roll area is not)

Every inch you go up in rim size you MUST bring the tyre size down that much most people will know, also all you guys out there running around with 19" wheels what ever you do stay away from DOT's the catch you with the 19"'s on your line & they feel like being picky they will get you for it to be legal the rim can only be 2" larger than factory fitted so stocks are 16" so the biggest you can go & still be legal is 18" :D

    • And at over $2 per litre I'm starting to consider setting up a corn mash still and converting over to alcohol and running mine on it !  Up side of that is it all doesn't have to go into the car ! Win win !
    • H2 (for cars) will never happen. It's not reasonable for any number of reasons. It's also not reasonable for almost all of the industrial uses that the fanbois say that it will be used for, again for a large number of reasons. There are some cases where it will be good. But, even those will be massively hampered by the economics. The only way that H2 can be economic is if we somehow manage to get from where we are to the other side of the economic-valley-of-death in which no-one can operate. You need there to be sufficient renewable generated electricity to be available so that it is effectively free. Once you are there, you can do whatever the hell you want and hang the efficiency. But until you get there, the ever diminishing value of electricity makes it harder and harder to encourage businesses to build the new generation capacity, and they will simply stop investing in generation projects. (I kinda think there needs to be just government money spent on building the required capacity in a non-commercial way, similar to how the first fossil fueled grids were built, as national-government owned utilities. And probably some nuclear in there to start. But this all should have started 10-15 years ago to avoid the chasm of death that we face right now). Synth fuels will be much more likely, but will only occur is there is at least some renewable H2 production, because you need H2 to do it. And you need stacks of free (or at least extraordinarily cheap) energy because assembling molecules back into fuels is exactly the opposite process to burning the fuel, and the reason we burn fuels is because there is so much energy squeezed into each molecule. So you're somewhat subject to the same economic valley of death problem as above anyway. That is unless people are willing to pay the current equivalent of $5 or $6 per litre of petrol-ish liquid fuels. Can you imagine it? The squealing at $2 now is bad enough.
    • This is so cool. Get a dashcam that records audio and hopefully you'll catch it.  Maybe there's a brand or some kind of markings on the back ? Are the pics hand drawn? I love it so much.
    • Hahaha yep, point(s) taken. I just like seeing different things and an EV in an R32 is pretty different. I'm not on the EV band wagon, I'm waiting for synthetic fuels or hydrogen personally.
