caminperth
Pinging is bad and engine destroying - it happens very quickly so don't "dump" it until you either reduce the boost or fix the problem. Means that not enough fuel is getting there as the stock cooler "should" be ok with that sort of boost, so points at the fuel pump or regulator or injectors. I think.. Cubes
Stock fuel pumps are getting fairly old these days, its either that or some ones played with the ignition timing. Time for a newy. maccaz_gts25t
yeh usually the stock fuel pumps can handle up to 14 or less, so ill get the timing looked at...CUBES what do you mean by time for a newy...hahah oh ooo Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/73744-ping-after-psi-bump-up/#findComment-1354939 Share on other sites
Cubes
New stock fuel pumps can handle quite a bit of power. 10yr old ones can't though. Mine began leaning out with 150rwkw at 12psi of boost on the stock rb20det turbo. maccaz_gts25t
ahh k. is there much difference if any with the rb20det and the rb25det fuel pumps. my mechanic is looking at it tonight and i will let ya ll know how it goes. how much can i get a fuel pump for....i would want one that can hold up to 550hp just so then i have alot more abilty than it actually needs Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/73744-ping-after-psi-bump-up/#findComment-1355014 Share on other sites
TommO
I bought a Walbro fuel pump for $230. There's cheaper options out there, but you'll have to wait. Are you SURE it's not just missing, do you actually hear it ping? You said you had a "tune", did this involve putting it on the dyno and watching the AFRs? If it's just missing, it's most likely that your plugs need re-gapping to a lower spec (ie 0.8mm instead of 1.1mm), due to the higher boost. Could also be a coil pack is on the way out. maccaz_gts25t
thanks for that....i have herd it ping but the missing is chronic....like sometimes it sounds like a slow machine gun wen dumping it....like bupbupbupbup with miss's in between bup's if that makes sence haha but thanx for that mate yeh i herd that walbro are quality the $230 one...how much could that handle, what where the specs, and does any one know the specs of the stock standard 1995 r33 gts-t fuel pump. TommO
Yep, that slow machine gun is defintely pinging. If it's audible like that, it's pinging very very badly. Turn the boost down!! Not sure on how much the Walbro or Bosch intanks can handle, but they are quoted at about 500HP... lots of people on here with 250kw at the rears plus still only have intank replacements, so they'll support plenty of power :) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/73744-ping-after-psi-bump-up/#findComment-1355529 Share on other sites
maccaz_gts25t
my mechanic mate just picked it up a few hours ago to take it to his and retune it and turn the ignition timing down hoping that will stop it...its only at 10psi and i know people with it at 14 in the same situation but not pinging, but i still got more power than them cause they have idiots tuning there timing etc hehehe....been a big help cheers mate. maccaz_gts25t
orright maybe it wasnt pinging as bad as i thought.....but the main problem, the bleed valve is really cr*p. it is a TURBOXS boost controler, and 4 out of 4 car weary people said there bad news Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/73744-ping-after-psi-bump-up/#findComment-1355611 Share on other sites
TommO
So it was spiking boost, or running unlimited boost, or? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/73744-ping-after-psi-bump-up/#findComment-1355626 Share on other sites
siksII
doesnt seem like pinging to me, as you have described it it sounds more like coilpacks. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/73744-ping-after-psi-bump-up/#findComment-1355653 Share on other sites
ecl
i think its not pinging does it sound more like a spluttering noise near the exhaust? i have same prob and ive read its either spark plugs, coil packs, fuel filter, dirty afm hmm. Cool Hand Luke
Pinging you will here a rattling or knocking sound coming from the engine bay, and wont cause a miss fire. maccaz_gts25t
today it ran better, i was the bleed valve spiking, some runs would be at the 10psi rang then down to 5psi then next one suddenly at 15psi...i am changing the valve from a turboxs to a turbo smart, wise move? I doubt it. Sounds like an ignition problem, but sometimes factory computer overcompinsates for increase in boost & richens mixture too much. TommO
For you guys suggesting it's not pinging, tell me what this noise is I reckon it's pinging AND missing personally.. as I said above. Pinging due to 15psi on stock cooler, and missing due to high boost and plugs not gapped to support it. like sometimes it sounds like a slow machine gun wen dumping it....like bupbupbupbup with miss's in between bup's Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/73744-ping-after-psi-bump-up/#findComment-1357413 Share on other sites
