Unless you have a CAI or a heatshield of some sort, installing ANY pod filter will more than likely decrease your power (due to the hot air generated by engine being sucked up by the pod).

So with that in mind, changing to a brand name pod will do nearly nothing to increase performance.

You can make your own with just some sheet metal. Just make sure you find a good way to secure it.

If you have a R33 there's a groupbuy for this heatshield+pod setup:

Or this airbox for R33/34:

thats what i was wondering, doesnt it get messy??

also dont use an oiled pod such as k and n to reduce risk of covering the AFM with oil. probably best to use a dry one such as an apexi.

if u have a dry one on there that looks like it filters ok just leave it or partition it.

hey..

If you in melbourne I believe its illegal to use the pod oiled type (k&n etc etc) unless its in a box..

Apparantly the Apexi ones (there non oil) are fine though.. because of the no-oil factor...

Get a k&n panel filter and stick that in the stock airbox.. thats the best way to go..... unless you do the CAI in the front bumper, if not you'll just be hearing the stupid sucking noise everytime you drive and wondering if its actualy doing anything good for your car

cyas

Although my pod is in the guard, its not so low that there is a risk of sucking up water from puddles etc. Besides the fact that i dont really drive my car in the rain (its a second car) im not gonna drive thru cause ways etc; although one of my friends did this during a flood and hydrauliced his engine; blew a hole in his block. Also, i like the fact that its hidden ans with some cops its 'out of sight, out of mind'. Im using a MAP sensor too, so i dont have to worry about AFM's. Also, keep in mind that a tiny amount of water splashing in from rain wouldnt really hurt anything, as some people set up water injection into the engine to keep combustion temperatures low. Thats just my opinion; correct me if im wrong.
