RB30-POWER
If you use the correct jump start prodecure its highly unlikely that you will cause any damage to the car or yourself. However, connect them up wrong and look out! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/73814-jumper-leadn/#findComment-1357783 Share on other sites
R32Big_boy
What RB30 POWER said, if you put them on in the wrong order then you'll fry your ecu. If its a series 2 33 then it tells you where to hook in the power cables, if its a 32 or series 1 33 then just take care. Often the problem is because the ground cable isnt good enough and frys everything. i've often seen the RACV hook up the ground to the engine. Also use a cable that has a fuse in it or one of those fancy schmancy electronic ones that measure's voltages and current. RB30-POWER
Just make sure when you connect the negative lead to the donor car which should generally happen last you connect it to the engine block or other chasis earth point. If you connect it to the battery directly it can cause a spark, and because the batteries give off Hydrogen Gas it can explode. This does happen, read/seen numerous cases of it happening and the results are nasty. xRHETTx
Ive jump started 2 other cars with my car, and had my car jump started about 4 times now (damn turbotimer and leaving headlights on!) Nothing has ever happened, but i do put the leads on in the correct order. I dont earth the leads to the chassis though.
