Tekken 5 (PS2) help unlocking characters

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I've unlocked all the characters except for Devil Jin and Jinpachi Mishima... which I'm having trouble doing.

I've read everything google had to offer on unlocking them, and I've done the 200 wins as well as clocked the mini game where Jin goes in search of his mom. I've unlocked Eddy by getting all of Christies costumes as well... but I can't for the life of me get Devil Jin and Devil's Great Grandpappy.

Anyone else managed to do it? Oh and it works a treat off the Hard drive, even Tekken 1, 2 and 3 which come with it as a bonus.

U like your Hard drive dont ya. I actually prefer 2 play xbox games from HDD its quicker s it quicker for PS2 also? If so ill have to get one!

Sorry cant help ya out, ie only unlocked Hwoarangs character, but seems like theres alot more to unlock this time around, how many hours u spent on this?

Free bump! :)

[EDIT]After reading this i remembered i wanted to order some Brady Game guides and maybe some games from EB USA. Went to the site and saw a Tekken 5 guide, this will have your answers 4 sure! Go into an EB and have a quick sniffle through it to find the answer to your question!!!

Kinda like when a magazine isnt worth buying so u read it in the newsagencies.

(Thats what my mates tell me they do ;) )

If u cant find the guide and really want it lemme know and we can organise to put it through with my order if u like, but lemme know asap cos ill be doing it in the next day or 2.

Tekken 5 guide @ EB Works out to be $23 AUD give or take about 50cents. Games work out way better too!

Cheers

compared to loading off the disc its lightning fast (when you start the game this mini asteroids like game comes up to keep you occupied) it usually takes about a minute off the disc, and on the HDD it takes 5 sec, if that. I was too used to playing Xbox games off the HDD, and was half the reason I stopped using my PS2, now that I've got an HDD on it as well, i've got a newfound interest in repacking, tweaking and playing games off the HDD.

I sorta took a shortcut to unlocking the characters by putting it to one round, 30sec battles. It took me a weekend to get to what I've gotten to.

Ok ok thats not all i know..

Below is the other Secrets. hehehe u think ur done unlocking shits? think again LOL

Read on.

# Star Blade arcade game

Successfully complete arcade mode with all fighters to unlock the Star Blade arcade game. Alternately, in the fourth level of the Devil Within mini-game, there is a door covered with rocks that is across a big hole. You cannot reach it by jumping. When the devil's bar is full (the red one), press L1 + Triangle to transform into Devil Jin. Then, stand looking towards the door and press L1 + Square to shot a beam. That beam will destroy the rocks and a path of floating steps will appear. Go through the door and you will find a little space ship rotating in front of you. Touch it to unlock the Star Blade arcade game.

# Configure arcade games

At the "Press Start" screen for an Arcade History game, hold Select. An accurate representation of the game's DIP switches will appear, allowing you to customize the game as done on the actual arcade machine.

# Theater Mode

Successfully complete story mode with any character to unlock Theater Mode. Once unlocked, you are able to listen to the stage soundtracks, view the movies of the character used to complete story mode, and the attract movies (Arcade Intro, PlayStation 2 Intro, and E3/TGS trailers). As you complete story mode with each character, more movies will become available in Theater Mode. Getting all movies requires that you successfully complete story mode with both Kuma and Panda, as well as Christie and Eddy (although Eddy's ending is identical).

# Final Stage 2

Play 200 arcade mode matches to unlock the Final Stage 2. Alternately, successfully complete Devil Within mode.

# Play as Anna Williams

Successfully complete story, battle, or time attack mode nine times with different characters to unlock the "Random" option at the character selection screen. Additionally, in team battle mode, select the number of characters to be used, then press L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 + Start + Select at the character selection screen. A "?" will appear instead of the character portraits.

# Alternate replays

As soon as you defeat an opponent in the final round, the replay video appears. When the replay of the final round is being shown, press X + Circle, Triangle, or Square. After the replay of the final round, your character will perform a finishing move. Depending on what buttons you pressed during the replay, you can see your character perform any of his or her finishing moves.

# Easy money

You can earn money in arcade mode. If you play higher ranked CPU opponents, you will be rewarded with a higher amount of G after defeating the opponent. The money earned per fight in arcade mode ranges from 800G to about 4000G. In arcade mode, you will also encounter random roulettes which will multiply your winnings. You can also collect money while playing 'Devil Within' and are rewarded an extra 100,000G upon completing the quest. Additionally, the fastest way to get some money in the bank at first is to unlock the endings for all characters by completing story mode with everybody. This will get you 100,000G per character for the first time through only.

# Getting expensive items for free

You can get a number of the high priced items for free when you play "Devil Within" a second time after you have already completed the quest. Various expensive items will be scattered around throughout the game.

# Gaining ranks quickly

In order to gain ranks quickly you must play opponents of the same rank as you are. When defeating CPU opponents of the same rank as your character, it usually only requires three to five wins to get a promotion. After your fight has ended in arcade mode, you can select one of three opponents with the D-pad. You cannot always select an opponent with the same rank, but do so when one is available; you will have your character rank maxed out quickly.

# Tekken Roulette indicator

Although Tekken Roulette occurs randomly, you can still tell which matches will end with it. During the match, look at the top left corner of the screen. If you see a red light pulsing right to left where "Stage xx" is shown, the match will end with Tekken Roulette.

# Hidden story mode interludes

Do not always be quick to defeat the story mode interlude opponents. In some cases when you lose, you can see a different movie as part of the story.

# Look under Anna's skirt

Choose practice mode and select any character as player one. Select Anna as the practice dummy; she can be in any costume. Note: To unlock Anna, complete her story in story mode. You may choose any stage. Knock her down with a special attack. Her back should be facing you while she is down on the ground. Then, move behind her.

# Defeating Jinpachi with Feng

As soon as the final match begins, press Up/Right + Circle to knock Jinpachi down. When he is down, hold Down and keep pressing Circle to do a Perfect. This occurs because Jinpachi is too slow to get up before you do another kick on his body.

# Look like Duke Nukem with Jack 5

Go to custom mode and press Triangle on Jack 5. Change his shirt to red, pants blue, and give him the shades. He will look a lot like Duke Nukem.

# Easy Jinpachi dodge with Jin

To make this easier, set RP and LP in the "L1" slot. When Jinpachi does the blast, press Away + L1. Jin will do Force Block. The blast will go through Jin, but not do any damage.

# Devil Within moves with Jin

5x Punch Combo: Press Square(5).

Demon's Paw: Press Break into a run and Square.

Spinning Flare Kick: Press Break into a run and X.

PK Launcher: Press Square, X.

PPK Grounder: Press Square(2) X.

4X Kick Combo: Press X(4).

Jumping Uppercut: Press Square + Circle.

Double Lifting Kick: Press X + Circle.

Air Chop: Press Circle(2), Square.

Throw: Press Square + X.

Kazama Fury With Uppercut: Press L1 + Square.

Double Roundhouse: Press L1 + Kick.

Change to Devil Jin: Press L1 + Triangle.

# Jinpachi Mishima's movies

Fight your way through story mode until you finally reach Jinpachi. Lose to him and let the time counter go to zero. The game will show a movie of him after that. Additionally, successfully complete story mode with Lei Wulong and defeat Jinpachi. After that, do not skip the side movie and Jinpachi will tell Lei about himself and how he ended and how he was in the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5.

# Look under Julia's skirt

Choose practice mode. Select Hwaorang as player one and Julia as the practice dummy in her Indian clothes (press Triangle). With Hwoarang, use a special attack to knock down Julia. Julia may be facing belly up or down. When she is down, move behind her to see under her skirt.

# Easy Jinpachi dodge with Kazuya

When Jinpachi does the blast, press Forward. Kazuya will step far to the side. Be careful; if you do it too long, Kazuya will step into it and take maximum damage.

# Easy win with Law

Press Triangle(2), then use the Blind Elbow combo (press Triangle(4)) three or four times.

# Defeating Jinpachi with Law

Keep pressing Square to punch and Triangle(2). Then, press Triangle(2) again.

# Easy win with Lee

Use Lee's Acid Storm three times (Right, X(4), Circle).

# Defeating Jinpachi with Lei

Crouch and keep pressing X. When Jinpachi is sending out fireballs, duck by using Tiger Fang (press Down/Left, Square, Triangle).

# Defeating Jinpachi with Marduk

Keep pressing Circle while crouching or standing.

# Alternate fighting sounds with Mokujin

Before a match, hold Down while playing as Mokujin. When hit, you will hear the sound of a wood block being struck.

# Look like Ken with Paul

Customize Paul with long hair or a ponytail, and for the gloves buy yellow or red ones. He should now resemble Ken from the Street Fighter series.

# Look like Chun-Li with Xaioyu

You can customize Xaioyu to look almost like Chun-Li. To do this, go to "Character Customize", choose Xaioyu's pink costume (press Left Punch or Right Punch ). For the head, choose "Chinese Chignon". For Color 1, choose "Black". For Color 2, choose "Blue". For Color 3, choose "Black". She should now resemble Chun-Li from the Street Fighter series.

# Defeating the Boss with Yoshimitsu

Put RP RK on R2 at the controller configuration screen. Then, put RP LP on R1. When you fight, press Forward + Triangle. If he has spun around, press R2 to smash his head on the ground. This will take a lot of health from him. When he shoots his blast, press R1 then jump quickly. Sometimes he will do them twice. Another way to inflict damage when he does the blast, press Up/Forward + R1. Yoshimitsu will do a helicopter move and slash him.

# Pac-Man reference

Choose the space stage in any mode. After the announcer says "Fight", you can see Pac-Man moving to the left behind the characters in 8-bit form.

# Tekken 3 reference

On the first and second stages of Devil Within, you will hear Jin's stage music from Tekken 3 in the background.

# Trapped

When you play Tekken in Tekken History, sometimes you cannot get out and will have to restart.

# Life to Boss

When you do Soul Siphon on the Boss in story mode it will give him your life.

Oh &

UNLOCKING JINPACHI :Bang:

Jinpachi is not a playable character so you can't unlock him through normal

game operations, however with the help of a cheat catridge you can play him.

Game Shark or Action Reply would do the trick

that sucks they shouldve made him a playable character, what also wouldve been good is to have devil kazuya. i love the mishima family so loving and caring, what with throwing their children down cliffs and all :)

    • Right.  I'll try my best at a concise "bring you up to speed" on stuff that may be missing here - obviously open to questions or further input from others as relevant. Here's a datalog from a responsive turbo setup with electronic boost control being used a bit, to keep it simple I've marked 3 points of interest.  All of these charts are on the same time scale on the X-axis, so you can reference what engine rpm is doing in the top graph, boost and EMAP (exhaust backpressure) in the second graph, and turbo rpm in the bottom graph. A) The turbo gets it's power from exhaust gas, and pumping air takes work.  As a result you can't just spin a turbo with a fixed amount of exhaust energy and expect it to keep spooling - the bigger the turbo (ie, the more air it can push) the more exhaust energy you need to drive it.   The most obvious ways of getting more exhaust energy are by adding displacement, adding boost, or adding rpm - but as you add any of these the turbo also needs to do a bit more work so there is a big balance of these things needed to even get to your target boost and sometimes that's not even possible. What you can see in step "A" is that there isn't enough engine rpm or boost to reach the level we want, so this is where "lag" is.  The dyno run continues and rpm increases, which gives enough energy to increase boost, which helps spool  the turbine speed up even more - so you can see that the rate that the boost (and turbo speed) are starting to ramp up faster than the engine rpm is, so turbo is really starting to wake up as the graph gets closer to point B....   B) At this point we've been able to reach the boost that is actually desired at this point.   To stop the boost from going further than this the wastegate will open and bypass gas past the turbine, meaning it doesn't continue accelerating at the point it was before but instead carry on at a more progressive rate which matches what the engine needs.   The wastegate will have a spring in it which is rated to a specific pressure where it will start bypassing, but electronic boost control (managed by the ECU) can adjust how much pressure the spring sees in order to allow some tunability on how much boost the wastegate actually sees, and therefore how much exhaust it bypasses.   The tune in this case stops boost from ramping up HARD at around 21-22psi just before 4000rpm, then as the rpm continue it allows boost to continue up to around 25psi higher in the rpm.   You can see the turbo speed fairly steadily increases through the rpm to ensure it's keeping up with the increasing airflow demand due to the engine speed being higher and boost being pretty steady.   If the boost dropped off after a point then you may see the turbo speed level off or even drop.   C) You can see that despite the boost pressure staying pretty flat here, the exhaust pressure is steadily increasing and at this stage has overtaken boost pressure.   This isn't unusual, and is largely as a result of the increasing energy needed by the turbo to pump more and more air to suit the needs of the engine as it revs out further.   There are a bunch of variables in regards to how much back pressure there will be on a given turbo etc, but its one of the factors we manage when sizing and tuning a turbo setup.   When exhaust back pressure starts exceeding boost pressure you will eventually start seeing signs that the turbo is running out, the engine gets less keen to make more power and it gets harder to raise boost further. In this case it's a fairly acceptable compromise for the power level (around 630kw on a 3litre engine with full boost by 4000rpm), but you'd not want to push it a lot harder than this.  The maximum speed rated for the compressor wheel on this setup is around 125,000rpm so you can see its starting to get close on that side as well - I feel like this kind of illustrates some of the turbo related things we both decide on how far to push, and are also limited to how far we can push depending on the parts combination. Hope this helps more than it confuses things
    • For that influx of Spammers we had I made no pic posting and no PM's for first ten posts. This is group based and I've manually updated @Beanie to the Members group which will open up the images and PM's.
    • Thx for the reassuring reply. I’ve got above legal clearance  going in for roadworthy Friday… fingers crossed it’s keeping me awake  bloody nanny state
    • I was actually going to try and dig out a datalog with turbine speed and EMAP haha
    • Wait until @Lithium posts a compressor map and tries to explain what's going on. There is a strong possibility that the OP lives in a digital world and is not comfortable with analogue machines. A turbo is just about as analogue as it gets, with plenty of non-linear behaviours added in on top. Most of us who think we know how they work are actually only getting by on 2nd and 3rd order mental models that abstract away from the actual physics and bring it back to the sort of kindergarten level concepts we can hold in our heads. This is important when you need to hold 10 such concepts in your head at the same time. You need to reduce the complexity of the individual concepts to allow them to be simultaneously held and manipulated. Too much complexity in the base models makes it very difficult to make them work with each other mentally.
