Hi, new here, like the site, very informative.

I know many here are RB25 owners, but wouldn't mind giving it a shot. Any ideas are welcome.

I bought my GT-R two years ago, in almost stock condition (bar the exhaust). Beautiful car inside and out, everything was pristine, except for this bogging that existed.

The car would start, then all of a sudden stall. Give it gas, and it will not rev, even on the move. I can be driving along, and all of a sudden, it will hit a wall. Keep adding gas, it will struggle, burbling along, and when I pull it to a stop, it will stall.

The mechanics found a pool of engine oil in the stock airbox, which was cleaned. I changed the AFM's, and the problem still persists. Then did two things: a) cleaned out the fuel filter, and B) added an ARC oil catch. A few days later, the problems were gone, and the car's been running excellent since then, with zero problems.

So okay, fast forward till today. The car's been through some minor changes to the engine, including the addition of a oil cooler, HKS DD intakes, Koyo radiator, replaced the rocker panel seal, Denso 0.4 mm iridium plugs, and EVC V boost control. It's been running in this config for a while now, no problems whatsoever.

Decided to change the oil today. Been using 15w60 FK Massimo oil for the last change. Gave it a try, and decided that the oil pressure was too high. So went instead for Redline 10w40. Before the FK, I've been using Redline 15w50 exclusively. So 10w40 really shouldn't be a problem.

To get rid of the excess oil in the cooler, we used high pressure air into the oil cooler assembly (where the oil filter is) and pumped out the residual oil in the cooler.

Okay, so started the car, and it stalls. Thought it wasn't a big problem. Then kept driving, and the car keeps bogging down and stalling. First it was for a few minutes at a time, then it's narrowed down to a few seconds. Press the gas, car does not go, revs erratically, and when I let the gas go, it stalls.

So that's the story. Any ideas?

    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
    • Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!
    • Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
    • Yeah kids certainly add a whole another dimension to your life.  Life ceases to be about you and more about them for a while!  And I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love watching them play sport and make new friends along the way. Wow, sounds like your mate is a good guy to know!!!  He's got some serious toys in the toy box!  Yes it would be lovely to be able to do stuff to your car without getting all tied up in boring shit like how to pay for it!!  I would describe my spending style as "aggressively spontaneous and logical but regrettable purchasing"....  That will hopefully make no sense at all which would be appropriate given that is how I buy stuff.  I'll decide at the drop of a hat that I'm buying something expensive, research the living shit out of it for 2 days straight then go out and buy it.  Then I'll have instant buyers remorse for 2 days which generally passes by the time it turns up on the front step!  If I'm feeling ballsy sometimes I'll tell my wife.  Other times it just makes its way silently passed the house and out the back to the shed, never to be spoken of again...
