Hi All,

I have an R33 GTST series 1, and recently had fitted an aftermarket 3" exhaust system from the turbo back. very happy with the extra power and noise, however theres an issue im having. Because the exhaust is louder, often when changing gears I will hear a loudish POP noise come form the engne ... backfire i assume? However thats not my issue .. i dont mind it so much - i can lvie with the odd pop sound ... the issue is, often when accellerating hard (in say second gear) when the car gets to 4000+ rpm it will often either .... start to backfire and loose power/boost ... OR it will continue to boost/accelerate, but with constant popping/banging noises throught the revs until I change gears again.

Can anyone suggest what needs to be done to have this fixed? I dont know a lot about engines. Im guessing perhaps just a good tune from a performance shop?

Any help would be apreciated - Thanks

I had a similar thing happen in my HR31 when I fitted the exhaust. I would suggest checking the spark plugs and if OK, reduce the gaps to 0.9mm and while you're there, check the condition of the coil packs very carefully ( replace as required ) . Then check your boost pressure, base timing and AFR's if possible.

Hope that helps / works. ;)

this topic being covered many times..

even solutions to solve it

if ppl get off their lazy ass and do a search...

Seriously, give him a break mate.

Whilst I'm all for using the search function, he mentioned that he didn't know much about cars, so he probably doesn't know what to search. There's no need to be sarcastic about it, all you needed to do was point him in the right direction as you did in your first post ;)

immortal, have a read through this thread - it should help you out.
