hey all just joined these forums and wonderin if u could help me look for an mechanic shop interested in taking on an enprentice.

im lookin for a mechanic who may be interested in takin on an enprentice for next year at the gold coast. preferably workin on performance cars and parts i know of a few but not sure of the location or phone number (advert went too quick and hasnt been on since)

if anyone can help me that would be greatly appreciated

To be honest your chances of getting an apprenticeship at a performance workshop are pretty low. I mean if you frig up on an expensive car, they are up for thousands of dollars. Plus 90% of performance workshops are flat strap - they don't have the time to look after/train a young apprentice. They are only interested in making big bucks of hotted up cars.

You would be better off looking for a regular and reliable workshop near where you live. They probably have the time to train you properly plus they would appreciate your help more. Remember you are there to learn, not just to brag about what cars you have/are working on.

Once you complete your training, then look at doing some volounteer work for a performance shop. They know you are a good mechanic/helper - they won't have to worry about you and you will learn and understand a lot more because you know the ropes already.

Understand also that some one under the age of 18 (if you are) can cause problems with workshops insurance, they may not be legally allowed to have you in the shop.

Of course you may be lucky and get into a performance workshop, but your chances are next to nicks.

Please don't take this as a negative critisism - it would be great if you got into the shop of your choice - just think about it and realise that you may not get what you want.

Good luck,

Tim

thanx tim for a well put reply

insurance wont be a problem as i am covered by my skool (as this will be a skool based apprenticeship for a year) then i go onto full time

im just lookin for experience on nissans (skylines preferably but that may be hard as u said) cause hopefully fingers crossed i get on in mid febuaray and i want to work on it myself. yes it may seem stupid a 17 yr old tryin to buy a skyline i hear it all from my family lol my dad thinks im the only one who will be able to get it. but yeh anyway thanx for ur reply tim i'll keep my eye out for some mechanics or body painters wanting an enprenticship from either one of them

If you do a search - use the 3rd button from the right up top - for workshops or mechanics you should get a large list of places to call. You never know. Also try Nissan dealers they probably have more time than anyone, plus you may get to fang a new 350z (just dreaming mmm 350z) :)

Also don't discount the Aussie delivered R31 skylines. They were a very good car that was extremely well built. Good fuel economy plus decent performance. Slip and a few others have R31's - there is quite a large following. Plus parts and insurance would be cheaper.

Without being rude, unless you are used to powerful RWD cars, maybe look at 200sx, Silvia and 180's. I know that going from a worked Gemini and a swift GTi to a turbo skyline was a real big wake up call. I still have to give it heaps of respect.

In the end it may take you more time to be able to specialise in Skylines, but these forums have almost all the info you could ever need - so working on it yourself shouldn't be a hassle.

Cheers,

Tim

well im learning to drive in mah friends holden as i said in the other post i think she said it was 350 kw or 300 but from what she said it can go pretty fast and shes done a shit load of work to the engine so after tryin to drive that beast i think i could handle a skyline but yeh thanx for the info many thanks:)

i know of one place of the gold coast the have like tachos blow off valves etc etc and they install the for u 2. thats where i wanted to try and get the eprenticeship but i cant find there number so i was hopin by some chance someone on here mite now them there stationed at nerang

Hi Chaos, this is constructive criticism, I've trained a few APPRENTICES and currently have two APPRENTICES and if a young kid walked into my workshop and asked for an enprenticeship, I would probably recommend they stay at school for a few more years, and concentrate on english:)

However if your 110% motivated and commited then you shouldn't have any problems, but don't forget there are literally hundreds of school leavers looking for work this time of year, and first impressions are everything.

Perhaps you could offer to do some unpaid after school or weekend work at the shop of your choice, and demonstrate your enthusiasm, and don't get offended if they hand you a broom and tell you to sweep the floor, we all have to start somewhere.

Good luck, I hope you find something:)

dam have a few typo's and u get the shit for it well one thing im looking for one start of next year school based (which means i tell my teacher what i prefer and he/she looks for it) i am a hard worker i am also a fast learner

    • It's kind of interesting - They definitely do builds that split the difference between what they like and what will generate views and engagement. The NC Platform always surprises everyone in a good way, in an uncomfortably good way some may say. They could throw a LS in there and arguably have the best (and best performing) car of the entire stable. But that isn't necessarily what draws views, because people viewing don't want to accept the vegetables of a LS NC MX5 being a superior vehicle in every way (including fun) than a RB26 240Z. This is also why there's not a lot of content about the GR Yaris (on the web in general). They're too good, yet 'only a Yaris' The community doesn't want certain cars to be as good as they are - to beat their hero cars, and I believe the NC MX5 is absolutely one of those cars.
    • Yeah - My key still does the chime thing. I followed the procedure but it didn't activate on the (identical) third set of keyfob that I had. I vaguely remember the alarm saying you can only pair two keys with it. Now that I've dug it up, it appears that you very much can pair keyfobs to the alarm system. (which are the fobs I use to unlock the car). I have successfully diverted the thread and can probably not use the OEM keyfob ever again unless I use the aftermarket alarm and attempt to pair the OEM keyfob to it. Which might just work, or not :D. I definitely used the nissan method and not the aftermarket alarm method.
    • What makes it worse is that Nissan made keys in the same style, for example R34 and Stagea, but they work at different frequencies or something like that. So they look the same but the remotes are not interchangeable. I learned that from some guy selling aftermarket blank keys.
    • Does your door chime work when you have the key in the lock and open the door? I've had that disabled because it's f**king annoying and it is one thing that messes with the pairing. Because now the car doesn't detect key in ignition anymore and the slide-key-in-and-out sequence does not trigger the pairing mode anymore. The service manual has a section on the various bits involved in doing the syncing. I presume it'll be similar between Stagea and R34.
    • Agree, but meh, I think is is based more on LOLS than actually apples to apples, like, who would have thunk a turbo 4 cylinder would not beat a NA 4 cylinder  I think with just basic N/A mods, like a exhaust and tune, it would be equal to the Mini in its current form, maybe I know my current 2.5 would "chop the mini" as the midrange now has a night and day difference in power delivery compared to the tuned 2.0, by around 20kwatw and 30nm from around 2k rpm "ish"....... I'm kinda hoping that they do a N/A build, either with the MZR 2.0 or with whatever they decide to use If I recall correctly they did talk about K swapping one a while ago
