can anyone give me a hand(overheating)

i just bought a r33 , its pretty stock, it has a exhoust and i just put a airpod in, but the car keeps overheating , i changed the thermostat still does it, anyone had simullar problems or has any ideas what i can do? thanks

Still running the factory viscous clutch fan? Still has the little undertray thingy between the radiator and the engine X-member?

Does it have a front-mount intercooler?

Are you losing fluid? Was it full of coolant or water? Is it discoloured? Have you flushed with flush treatment?

Its all stock, stock intercooler and everything, clutch fan, and yeah its not loosing fluid , i just flushed it and put new coolant in it

Well if its not loosing fluid and youve changed the thermostat it could be gunked up, then the flush you did will help but if it continues get it to a sepecialist fast because ive had similar problems with other cars and it just gets worse.

check the top and bottom radiator hoses to see if they both get hot to make sure nothing is blocked

99% of over heating problems are cause by blocked radiators.

the first step you should take is having yours flushed,it costs bugger all and works a treat.

Also check all your clamps on all the hoses connected to radiator, even if there is a small leak the water will still tend to get very hot.

Did you bleed the air out of the cooling system (through the little bleed valve near the front of the inlet manifold)?

Now that you mention it, there was a case over on SDU - some sucker in the States, turned out the water pump had next to no vanes on the pump's impeller wheel :Oops:

thanks guys, not sure about the water pump, will have to check, does it matter on the thermostat if that little hole is on the top or bottom when u put it in?

yep small hole in thermostat should be on top...not too sure why tho but it's marked from memory..

yer when i got my 100K service done and the mechanic pulled out the water pump, thats exactly what happened. he asked me if i noticed high temps, and i said no, was normal (smack middle of the temp guage). i only just bought the 32 and had done 500km's so if the engine was going it would have happened to the previous owner. (haha the mech said it was the most damaged water pump he had ever seen).

pretty hard to tell if its the pump blades though, since you gotta dissamble a whole heap of stuff.

ive seen a water pump that was so rooted the vanes were as thick as a piece of paper.

dont do anything till youve flushed the radiator! ive been there before

On my 33 ive had my water pump go, my heater core and then my head gasket all in the span of about 8 months. I put it down to my radiator not flowing properly so i got it recored and it wasnt cheap.
