hey guys

Last thurs night the state traffic task force was up here in Bundaberg. Got a few cars including mine.

Got mine for being 99DB (should be 90 or less) and got 1 point and 75 dollar fine - it's a self fix one though so not too bad....

Someone I know in a R31 with RB20 got done for BOV, too loud, gauges not in dash, steering wheel 10mm too small, POD filter not enclosed and a bit more I think

had a sweet highway patrol car and shit - they seemed to know what they were talking about although they didn't believe me that my car was a NA

hope they don't come back up here for a while hahahha

Its really quite unbelievable, I mean these cops are targeting the car enhusiasts. Just the other night down the Goldcoast they waved over this mustang over. This car was immaculate, completely restored with polished chrome, spotless engine bay etc etc etc. Anyhow this mature guy with what looked to be his wife hopped out. The police guy was just going over every single detail with his torch in his engine bay trying to find a problem. Eventually he asks him to pop the boot. He pops it and there were two brackets that hold a nitrous bottle screwed to the base of the boot with a hose that is not attached to anything, and the cop says right thats illegal were gonna tow your car!

No nitrous onboard. Couldn't believe it. Here is a guy who has spent big dollars on an immaculate classic and obviously takes the car out on the strip with nitrous every so often, yet has the common sense not to use it on the street (and so removes the bottle) and he gets done.

I've got a hundred other stories about BS defects also..... gets me wild.

Thats no BS defect tho. You are aloud NOTHING of a N2O system on your car in qld on the street. Drag racing ONLY. That one is pretty clearly stated I belive.

yea...they were up here at sunny coast awhile ago..got defected aswell..lost 2 points and 270 bucks fine ..had alot of stuff in the car that was apparently defects..so yeah.

but i still dont understand though...Why does my Battery ( which located at the back of the car like any other R33 gtst i believe ) needs to be contained in a box when they came out like that ? ( me thinks anyways ).

anyways..took me 4 hours to fit a battery box in my boot..now its a pain in the as# to replace battery.

and also..My Tyres are 2mm too big...NOW THATs HARSH..!

Your right mate it is clearly stated in the QLD guide to modifications....."the fitting of nitrous oxide injection equipment is not permitted" doesn't change my mind about what I think about it though  IMHO this guy was obviously just a responsible enhusiast who was caught by a backwards system.

I have a r33 gtst series 2 with the battery in the boot but i think maybe series 1s had battery in engine bay. thats a bs defect though. Surely a car can't be complianced unless it meets ADR regulations.

Proud owner of riced up R33 Series 1, my battery it located in boot as well.

Soon it will be a defect to start your car!

Straight from QLD transport's modifications booklet

Accessory gauges

Any additional internal or external gauges must:

• not interfere with the field of view of the driver

• not produce glare to the driver

• not have the possibility of an oil pressure line, or

similar, breaking with pressurised fluids spraying

onto the windscreen

• be fitted in such a way to reduce the risk of injury to

the vehicle occupants or pedestrians.

As far as pillar mounted gauges go, they are a no no, but suggesting that they need to be "in" the dash is incorrect. General rule of thumb is if they are below the top of dash, they are legally mounted, so long as they wouldnt injure you in an accident.

Just a small piece of information anyways.

Problem is that the QLD police do not rule by that legistlation, they govern a totally seperate set of laws, of which you can go down to the local cop shop and ask for but you need to know what section and part, they wont supply you with the whole set of legistlation, one part I do know fairly well is ".. any part of a motor vehicle which is not fitted from the factory, or as a factory option is illegal as it might interfer with the engineered design model of the vehicle.."

Which is stupid because QLD transport govern under the ADR's meaning you get a defect by the police under their set of laws, then you go get it cleared by the QLD transport because it does not breach their laws.

Try to contest it in court and suddenly you are put back under the same legistlation in which the police govern under and BAM your stuffed!

Well that was the way it was explained to me after spending 45 mins at my local cop shop asking serious questions in a manner in which I could get straight answrs, and even then it was like I was being stuffed around.

All that said John would probably be more of an expert on this particular subject than me, he knows more mechanically and has had more experiance in this area then anyone I know!

No one cares, the police dont care, QLD transport dont care, the goverment doesnt care, they make huge amounts of money out of handing out bullcrap defect fines and other bs breaches, eg excessive noise, so why would it want to change?

Ive got all the ADR's on CD, Light Vehicle Modification Guide, 90 bucks from the QLD Gov't.

Pods are fine, Guages are fine, bovs are fine as long as they are not too loud and do interfere with emissions.

Yeah, which means crank case emissions mostly, which you need to block off the bov from that, which means catch can, which most people then have venting instead, so you get done for that  Its great isnt it!

Far too many loop holes as always.

This has been said before but if every single person took these matters to court, the courts would be flooded with this crap.

Innocent until proven guilty still exists in this country, well that's what i like to think anyways.

Even if you lose, atleast you have been heard. If everyone took these matters to court, the courts would simply be overloaded and wouldnt have time for "real" cases that actually matter to the general public.

Only downside I can see is that maybe to resolve that problem, the laws may be changed regarding modifications and have only one set of rules to abide by. God help us if the EPA became responsible for that though....

This whole situation is going to put a whole of a lot of businesses broke and bankrupt aswell.

The only thing were gonna be left with to "modify legally" is our damn pc's hehe :D

Wonder if the EPA will want a say in that down the road too ;)

    • Hi everyone, just looking to see what's available in the GTR seat options, testing the waters on what's available. Wanting a driver's seat to replace my old school OG jap race seat, going to re-register the car so need a factory seat. Prices currently seem to go from $300 to $2k for a driver's seat. What's options are there, that's good condition and actually a realistic price? Located Brisbane. Thanks
    • Are these a plug and play setup, and do they need a tune, like a haltech ecu etc? Thanks
    • Nice work on the paint. Those 3 studs are long as.
    • Hi everyone, still chasing a bunch of this stuff. Thanks
    • Been over 2 months since I have done anything on the S15 and had a day off today so got stuck into mounting the radiator and intercooler. I ended up using factory bottom mounts as bolted in and I did order some gktech top brackets but didn't work with the PWR radiator so made up some with aluminium flat bar. Spent way to long on them but pretty happy how they are. Next job was the intercooler. Used some more aluminium flat bar and did the bottom mounts first. Top was easy as just one long piece and 2 90 degree coming off rad support and welded them on. The bumper support required some notching to let the outlets sit where I want so will add some reinforcement later to strengthen it. I have also bought ecu and waiting for it to arrive. Went with a Link g4x Xtreme but will be adding a ptmotorsport expander to add a few extra inputs over CAN. Went through a few different configurations on pclink to get what I want to allow future expansion for sensors and gearbox upgrades. Ordered gktech rear arms but looking at the hardrace lower control arms to have some extra adjustment too will see how the alignment looks after first setup. Got 2 more weeks of work before shut down and will have almost 4 weeks to work on this so planning on hopefully firing up mid January.   Also bought a 2015 brz with a heap of good gear, did noosa hill climb a month back. Owned it for 3 days changed alignment and sent it. Finished the weekend 2nd in class and only .3 off the 180sx best time last year. MCA Red coilovers, gktech rear lca, bolt on lock kit and tie rods, whiteline toe arms, cusco 1.5way diff and 4.5 ratio, endless brake pads, headers, exhaust, perrin intake and e85 tune. Electronic steering adjustment, nankang crs with koya wheels 17x9 +35. Have bought rear traction arm and relocation kit, extended studs and v3 tie rod kit. Planning on also getting flex tune as lucky to get 300km a tank with e85 and short ratio. Car is a heap of fun to drive and super easy to work on. AC in the line up at Noosa was mint in 35degree weather.
