Hey everyone,

I have had my 32 GTR rebuilt and iv now done 3000kms. I had it on PITS dyno and spun up 250kw at the rears @ 1.2bar. Im running arias pistons 87mil bore, standard cams, 750cc injectors, pfc, ngk ird .8m plugs and N1 turbo's. I have adjustable cam gears but they are at the standard setting.

I dont really want to pay $140 an hour on the dyno up front to experiment with the timing??

Thought i might ask the question as to what other people are running as far as timing and what power levels they are getting vs the standard timing??

i have heard 2 deg's on the exhaust with my setup could improve power through the range??

cheers,

Francisco

Each engine is different. The most common is 2 degrees advanced on the inlet and 4 degrees retarded on the exhaust. It's where I start and I can work through the most likely combinations in under 30 minutes. Some engine need "unlikely" combinations and you can't tell until you try it.

In yor case 250 rwkw at 1.2 bar is not as good a result as I would expect from your parts combination, I suspect that there is plenty to come with more tuning. Around 300 rwkw at 1.4 bar would be my expectation based on past experience.

Please post up the results after you have gone the next tuning step:cheers:

yeah thats what i thought, anyway i am going to the sau dyno day tomorrow so ill post up the results on a different dyno. I think also a limiting factor in my systme is the exhaust as its only 3 inch & i have a 3 inch cat? i will be putting a 3.5inch system on at the start of June. From there i guess i will be saving to get it re-tuned with the cam gears adjusted.

i was expecting about 280kw+, but was a little surprised with 250. Not sure if it makes a difference but the dyno was done after 900kms and was a tune run not a power run, done in 3rd? Also i was running the second batch of run in mineral oil at the time?

It depends on how hard you ran it in, 2 sumps of running in oil is more than I use. One oil change (to synthetic), 2 oil filter changes and 500k's to Bathurst and back is it, run in as it is ever going to be. If you pussied it around for 900k's then it was probably not run in yet. So it will pick up some power as it seals better.

I would say it wasn't tuned for power anyway, it should be much better this time, depending on tune of course.

:P

yeah i pushed it around for 900kms(oil & filter change), then ran it in on the dyno for 3 hrs.

after 2000kms i changed the oil and fliter again to synth 5w50 and i will do it again before sat.

Yeah i dont think it was tuned for power, or at least i HOPE not, lol!!

Thanks guys!

Fsmout, sorry to hijack,

but I was wondering the same thing about when I fit Int/Exh GTR cams (thanks Ronin09) to my RB20 which has adjustable Custom mod std adj. Gears.

I have read about probs with this mod but I am going to give it a go soon.

I am going to be very careful about binding and try to measure everything first.

Excellent, someone else trying the RB26 cams in RB20. What ECU?:P

I have already used Martin Donnon & Morpowa Adelaide to tune the chipped std ECU after the last bout of mods inc custom Intake, and it come up to about 170KW.

As i have done more work and with the GTR cams I was thinking of going to a Piggyback Perfect Power SMT6 & local dyno as its a long way to Adelaide.

My GTS4 is also Auto so easier to piggyback.

hi,

Dyno'ed at the sau day on sat and spun up 259.2awkw, on 1.2bar. I might have to put it in for another session and get the timing played with. Maybe i should up the boost to about 20psi?

anyway its got enough power for me at the moment!!

    • No, I don't remember the exact reasoning (was 20 years ago!) but the cops didn't end up supplying it to us either. Actually my mother went through a similar thing recently where she was hit when stationary, flustered and didn't get address (she got plate details, name, phone and insurance company, but not address). Person who hit her blocked her number and their insurance company (naturally) would not provide any details. Her insurance company also required her to pay the at fault premium because she did not have the address, cops did not help as it is a minor civil matter (they said their only course was if the other driver had left the scene of the accident without providing any details). She only ended up getting that refunded because they happened to be insured with Suncorp and she was with APIA so same company owners. For some reason the address is critical in insurance companies recovering money from the at fault party
    • If you're driving something like an R32 through to R34, no chance of meeting Euro4. Euro4 came out in 2006, and car manufacturers back then were complaining how hard it would be to meet those regulations. Not a chance a vehicle 10 years earlier is going to be compliant.
    • I presume it would take more than just slapping a big modern catalyst on the exhaust? It's interesting though, looking at the old sales brochures and listings it does not mention anything about emissions. No one cared.
    • Yeh nice, looks like their part of keep it reet? Will have to swing past. I'd much prefer someone actually look at my car and custom make a part, then get a generic part online and hope it works.
    • No, but they will be WAAAAAAY too high. You will never get your ticket.
