Its a T3 flange. It will fit on the standard RB20/25 manifold, however, you need to weld a spacer to the manifold so that the comp cover clears the block. Not a huge job, i got GCG in Sydney to do mine. It would be perfect for an R33 engine id say. Yes, i have receipts; not sure about warranty, i didnt ask at time of purchase. It is quite new though.

Nismoid, Im not sure what you mean by the OLDER style TO4 wheel?? As this turbo is only about 8 months old, and is an off the shelf Garrett item i would have thought its pretty new stuff. I was of the opinion that TO4's were old tech truck stuff, but im not an expert, so best to speak to GCG for that sort of stuff. I thought the 0.82 was 550hp and the 1.06 was 600hp.

Shaun.

Nismoid, you have a PM. Please reply.

nice turbo indeed.

Is this a 500 or a 550hp version dude?

As it has the older t04 wheel i think it then makes it in the 500 range if i recall correctly.

I had exactly the same turbo on my rb20, made 200kw atw easily without pushing all that hard. The big front cover keeps the heat down and makes that awesome hollow choof sound. The front wheel is capable of pushing 550hp worth of air, but its the core design that sets these apart from the old t04's, mine would be still spinning 25 -30 sec's after switching car off! A very responsive (for its size) and durable turbo and at $1500 sounds like an awesome investment for r32 or r33, of r34 for that matter. Wish I could get em that price when I bought mine. Oh Yeah and I have a modified vg30 (to suit gt30) housing with integral w/ gate available for those who may want to put on stock manifold, also a split dump pipe stainless. see my thread.

Yeah, it does take a while to spin down due to the ball bearing core!

Please take note that these Garrett GT30 Ball Bearing Turbos do not have the "older style" TO4 wheels in them. They do, however, have a TO4s (the addition of the "S") trim compressor wheel in them which is the current model GT Spec super duper compressor wheel.

Please dont be fooled by the TO4 thing and its old technology connotations, as this is not the case at all.

And the above bloke is right; it is an excellent price considering the lack of use this thing has had.

Shaun.

Hi Shaun,

Is it the Exhaust A/R or the Inlet A/R that dictates HP rating? I'm very interested but not sure if it will do the job on my new rb30det. I am aiming for a little over 300rwkw. Is this turbo big enough for this target?

cheers

Steve

QQQQ, you have PM. Im sure this turbo will suit your needs and provide excellent response.

All the specs of the GT30 series turbos are provided on the GCG website under technical info and specifications of the GT25 - GT35 range.

Youll also find that these things are $2650 new.

Assuming you mean low mount on the standard manifold, you need the following:

• A spacer welded on the manifold flange so that the comp cover clears the block.

• A screemer pipe welded into the manifold so that an external wastegate can be used.

• New water and oil lines.

• New dump pipe

• New induction piping to suit the 4inch bell mouth

• Modified intercooler piping to the turbo.

It worked well on my RB20, but if i had my time over again, id just go high mount. just my opinion. The turbo is sold anyway........finally!

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi Shaun

Im considering getting a GT30R or a Garrett T3/T4 for my RB20 and just wondering what rev range the GT30 would start getting boost at when you had it on your car?

Ive heard some people say it will not get positive boost until at least 5000rpm?

Is this true?
