Very interested in a comparison between the HKS 25/30, HKS 25/35 and Rb25 hi-flowed turbos!! (http://www.gcg.com.au/Catalogue_Menus/Upgr...pgrade_gtst.htm)

Im also interested in spooling times, mid-range and max power figures on an rb20 from these...

Im guessin the 30 will spool quicker than the 35 but not have the same peak power ratings? Interetsed to know where the GCG hi-flowed rb25 turbo would come between these two turbos.

Anyone know??

Also another thought... what about a HKS GTR-S in terms of lag and max power?

HKSGT2530 Results on RB25.

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...hlight=HKS+2530

From what im reading im getting that impression too..

220rwkw on a tired rb20 (170,000kms) and 265rwkw on a neo rb25. Shows the turbo can produce the goods and has plenty of scope left! Dont see many 2530s making more than 300rwhp really.. this turbos done 355rwhp on that rb25! So probably 320+rwhp on a good condition rb20.

Although expensive i think i will go with my first idea the GCG 450hp hi-flow...

and a few other little goodies...

Im personally looking for anywhere around 300rwhp out of my rb20 with a turbo thats not TOO laggy... the GCG rebuild looks the go as it can push alittle more hp outta it where as the gt2530 cant. Thought about the 25/35 but this seems too laggy..

Whats ur thoughts dude?

Id go a stock hi-flo turbo for sure with a set of tomei poncams.

gt2530 for the rb20. high flow for the rb25.

"i think the hiflow makes more power and also spools up quicker"

i dont see why the highflow would spool up quicker, the 2530 spools pretty quick! Id actually say the 2530 would spool up quicker, going on runs ive had with garret equivalents.

I believe a 2530 on an RB20 would be an OK upgrade.

But on an RB25 I have found a small problem, it boosts up at cruise (100 kph) as soon as I squeeze the throttle. This is a bit annoying when driving along any freeway with hills, I squeeze a little bit to get up the hill and it boosts up and accelerates too much. I back off so as not to go over 110 kph, then I slow down too much. It is hard to keep at a constant speed and it definitely uses more gas.

The GCG ball bearing hi flow doesn't do that, you need to give it a bit more on the throttle to boost up the hills, I don't have to flatten it or change down, just an extra few mm of pedal travel. It is so much easier to keep at the set speed and it uses less gas as a result.

Since we race interstate 9 times a year, this is important for my usage patterns. Maybe not so for others.

:P

SK thats right about the quick boosting up, and i agree this can be annoying when you want only a bit of acceleration rather than a surge, but it can also be fun and give the car an effortless feeling of power from boosting point thru midrange, eg. for overtaking you just need a tiny bit of throttle and you whoosh by.

Yeh, but how much is " tiny bit of throttle"? I am going to waste a bucket load of fuel if, every time I move the pedal ~1mm, it boosts up. I reckon ~5mm is good, that gives me ~4 mm to adjust speed, without surging away. After all I have ~50mm left to demonstate effortless acceleration.:)

Each to there own. With a RB20 we need all the poke we can get :) (Don't worry Roy I love the RB20)

I'd rather squeeze the pedal a little and for it to take off but it aint going to happen. So the RB25 is that much of a different animal?

its just that i already have a gcg hi-flowed turbo on my rb20, and was just wondering if a 2530 is better....i just want a good power result, the car has a hks front mount, apexi 3.5inch exhaust (turbo back), bosch 040 pump, 14psi, the stock computer chipped in japan b4 i got the high flowed done to run heaps of boost. stock injectors.....i just want to know how to get more power with this turbo...im currently lookin for a power fc and a set of poncams and injectors...will these parts give me alot more power than it has now or would i just expect a little bit?

sry for so many questions

What sort of hi flow? There are hi hi flows and low hi flows.

I have a GCG Ball Bearing Hi Flow that flows enough air for 265rwkw on an RB25DET at 1.4 bar with Tomei Poncams, Std R33GTR intercooler, split dump, 4" cat, 3.25" exhaust, Nismo injectors, Std R33GTR fuel pump, Power FC and Z32 AFM. It has more power EVERWHERE than when it was standard.

I have not been able to get within 30 rwkw of that with a 2530, but it might make a little more down low, not much I suspect.

:)

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
