eXc
I wanted to go with an EBC so I don't have to worry about spikes. I don't have a (after market) boost gauge, and if I got a bleed valve, I'd want a boost gauge so I could watch it.... But I will check it out anyways. Thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/74507-do-i-need-a-fmic/page/2/#findComment-1371104 Share on other sites
CerealKiller
leave the stereo for now and go for FMIC, i wouldnt risk it what risk? the stock cooler is fine, especially if the rest of the car is stock. TTT
these cars weren't built with daily comuting in mind. if you take a look at the list of goodies on these cars, suspension setup, the durability of drivelilne, you'd understand that they were built to be abused a little. so an R32 GTST with a cat back or even turbo back being the only mod... and in winter, you can do whatever you like with it without worrying. as someone mentioned though.. if you plan on constant circuit or drifting, you should consider the other options before a FMIC on a near stock car. make sure that the radiator is up to the task and same goes for the rubber hoses which are who knows how old. a radiator flush and pressure test and new coolant would give you peace of mind. oil cooler. it seems that these always get over looked by most people. but then again most car aren't circuit raced. Do some reasearch and you'll find that you can use a second hand transmission oil cooler (with mods) as an engine oil cooler. these are cheap effective mods.. It seems you're on a budget. so to answer your question, Get the stereo if you must. FMIC is not needed for a stockish R32 GTST at this time of year. Don't bother with a water spray for the stock cooler.. waste of time and money. spend a few bucks on the radiator flush and pressure test. replace oil and oil filter and go enjoy. Cubes
For track days I wouldn't think twice about getting the FMIC first. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/74507-do-i-need-a-fmic/page/2/#findComment-1375983 Share on other sites
predator
not sure.. during the track days you are moving at high speed, plenty of airflow. At rest between runs you stop and pop the bonnet to let out the underbonnet temps a little. If anything your car stays cooler than traffic. Depends how many laps you are doing I guess each set. if your car is pinging on stock boost, etc - you've got problems.. Cubes
The stock IC does jack, possibly with a little bit of boxing off it may work well. When my r32 was stock I took it up a 2km or so hill that is damn steep and is 100km/h. I sat on just over 100km/h with boost bleeding off slightly not quite on 11psi but almost. At the top of the hill the stock IC was pretty damn hot. Nothing like the fmic where the inlet side tanks are hot but the oulet are stone cold. My guess at the time was is the air isn't actually moving through the stock IC rather around it and out the vents in the wheel arch. Oosh
Exactly, the stock cooler is designed to handle the low % of time spent on boost in city driving or highway cruising, sustained load such as a very long steep hill or track racing and it's well out of it's depth.
