I thought it would be good to detail the process (after the car lands) for anyone looking to import.

Cypher should get his GTR today but mine will be thursday or friday because they had to do the x-ray scans on the container. This is random - no control.

My customs broker has informed me I can be in the quarantine area for the 'opening' of the cotainer.

I am waiting on a phone call to go to the quarantine area. They open the container and take car out. I make sure everything is there. They then do all checks on the car and provided it doesn't need a steam clean I drive home! Or straight to compliance! If it does need a steam clean I have to come back the next day and pay extra for it.

Just an update.

I am going to whatch the container with my car in it be 'unpacked' tomorrow at 1.00pm it is booked in for quarantine at 3.00pm. If it passes quarantine I will then be able to take her away. Hopefully there is no mud or sand in or on the car to make it require the steam clean.

Let's just say I won't be able to sleep tonight!

Have now. Ha Ha.

Thanks so much for all your help mate, you're a champion. I will be recommending you guys to anyone looking to import. J-Spec - the import kings!

Jamie and I are both picking up our cars today. The unpack is at 1.00pm and quarantine is at 3.00pm.

I'm going to explode with excitement.

Foznice: Im pretty sure it was the first boat available. Hang in there mate, you will have your car in no time.

hmm, my fc was on the HUAL TROPICANA that left on the 27th may and arrived on the 11th june in brisbane, buuuut then it had to clear customs, which was done in about 2 days.. but it still hasnt been released by AQIS :) .. getting impatient.. i swear if schappele had anythin to do with this >:)

I'd be more worried if Ron had anything to do with it!

Jamie and I had an awesome day yesterday, arrived at the docks at one. Jamie drove his out of the container and I pushed mine. His is faster but mine was certainly lower. The guys at the docks said it was the lowest car they have ever seen. Excellent.

We inspected out cars and found everything to be as promised from Japan, even my spare drift rims in the boot and Jamies back seat which I'm sure he wo't be needing.

After waiting for about an hour and half (went to the servo to kill time) we came back to find our cars had obviously been inspected by customs. About 5 minutes later the guy came over and gave us the all clear. They both past quarantine.

So we slapped on the dealer plates and, after some massive under car scrapige on the way out, we left for home.

Car is awesome, couldn't be happy, drives like a dream...good for a drift car!

Off to compliance today!

this is a good thread for me as I am looking to import a R34 sedan after I get my tax return.

dsteffe - so you recommend J-Spec huh?

i am on their mailing list and I like the prices in the updated auction e-mails.

I know what I want to get. I just have to pick an import broker.

Deciding between J-Spec, PrestigeMotorsport and Imports101.

Reggie.

svd164, I'm importing through J-spec at the moment and so far they have been nothing but helpful and honest and I would reccomend their services to others. ;)

dsteffe, would you be able to keep us posted on how you go with compliance? I'm thinking about having it comlied in Brisbane before I truck it down here.

;)

Nice Work Daniel,

What's the weather like up there today?? i'm coming up for a week with the family to chill out and hit the theme parks! I'll be cruising in a rental!! I hate that, wish i could strap the Skyline to the plane!

Would love to see the Ceffy and Jamies Beast 32 but i think my missus will cut my nuts off if i do

The car is at compliance!

svd164: I couldn't recommend the J-Spec guys highly enough. They found the 'perfect car' and made the whole process really easy and now I own the coolest ceffy I have ever seen!

Danny: I'm sure you'll get 5 mins to come for a strap! Just say you are going out to buy her a present or something?

foznice: I'm getting it complied at Innovative Auto Design in Springwood. The guy seemed to really know what he was talking about and I had a few people recommend him. The only issue with mine he said is that it has no Cat so he is organising a high flowed 3" to chuck in there. He is also organising mod plates for the seats and the cage. He said it should only take about 3 days as well which would be good.

I'll post pics soon.

Daniel

P.S Two way diffs and a stroked RB20 are good fun!

ah thats great

what sort of costs for the mod plate for cage & seats?

thanks

The cost is $1320 including GST. That is for full compliance, mod plate for seats and cage and the engineers sign off.

Additional costs will be the High Flowed Cat Converter, "Bout $150" he thinks? and the RWC $50.

Then obviously rego on top of that.

bryanfc: I don't think it needs a mechanic? I have been told a lot of cars that come over from Japan just have flat batteries. They have usually been sitting there doing nothing for a while. Mine started first go. Just lucky I guess. Not to say it isn't something more serious but don't think the worst.

I dare say it wouldn't be good moving it with a forklift esecially if it has a bodykit. Make them let it sit there until you go out with a jump pack or a mechanic. You usually pay for 3 or 4 days storage at the warf anyway.

well, i am in melbourne, and have already organised for it to be transported down here from qld, it is ready to do so, but it won't start apparently, which means that TOLL can't take it..

they gave me 3 options:

1. Forklift

2. Alternative carrier.. (+$300..)

3. Get a mechanic to go out there and get it started

all going well i should be able to go pick it up in melb on thursday

    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.
    • Thanks for taking the time to post that ! If anything changes or happens please do update us.
    • Somehow Vertimass/Oak Ridge National Labs has figured out a catalyst that can convert ethanol into C9-C10 hydrocarbons in basically a single step without ending up with a bunch of ethylene or similar waste products: https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2023224867A1/en I still don't think anything like this will keep us from needing to transition to EVs regardless along with all kinds of other electrification, but things like this will go a long way towards alleviating the problem of how to electrify things like planes. Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
