I've driven Nissan's for quite a while now and have Always been impressed with their packages. I used to have an R33 GTS-T for a few years before the R32 GTR, and whilst I'll probably keep my 32 for quite a while to come, one always wants to expand their driving experiences. As we are ALL motor enthusiasts and as such appretiate what other manufactures have to offer.

So what do you guys think and how do they compare, I know they are apples and oranges.. though they still can be picked up at relatively the same price. What would you take for a year or so for a (different) and good car for spirited driving through the hills and streets etc?

evo vi vs s6: evo vi

evo vi vs s8: s8 (that's an s8 (or a kitted 6) that is pictured above, btw)

evo vii vs s8: evo vii

s6 is a bag of worms - definitely do some research before heading down that road (take my word for it!). s8 is the perfection of the 3rd gen FD (though still requires research and caution if you want to mod).

Both cars are pretty much on par when it comes to performance and ability - though the driving experience is poles apart. The FD is a real "drivers' car", while the later evos largely run the show, as opposed to the driver.

The FD is definitely cheaper in terms of bang for buck (despite the common misconception that anything twin turbo is horribly expensive to mod) - as long as it is done wisely.

Having ridden in an evo vii - I can say that it is one of very few japanese cars that I would swap my car for. Aesthetically, however, I'm not a big fan of the viii.

Evo any day - it might not have the straight line power like the rx7, but take it to the G.O.R and bye bye RX7.

Evo is the complete package for sure, and i must agree with Bluprint - Evos have that tough sexy look to them.

Mate, RX7 FC/FD's smoke any car in the hills...

FD's handle better then nearly every jap car ive driven.

FD in my opinion. Personally I would get one in Yellow like Keisuke's from Initial D. I drove behind a red RX-7 at a car cruise on some twisty roads and it seemed to handle like a dream from my point of view. FD's are pretty rare on the streets as well.

    • Thanks for your insight, it being basically useless will impact my decision for sure. I thought it may help the engine breath better I guess. But then again, I have also been told that tuning an RB20DE is also not worth it. Exactly, we follow EU Regulations. There is a bit more leeway on older vehicles. My Porsche 924 came without a cat from factory and managed to pass, they still mentioned that I have quite high emissions on it though.
    • My apologies, I stand corrected. Thanks for registering to mention this! And thank you for actually reaching out to the council to clarify. This is the sensible thing to do and the opposite of what I was alluding you were doing. I may have seen too much outrage and hate being fueled on the internet and it has made me a somewhat cynical old man. Sometimes it is easy to forget that there are real people behind websites and accounts. In my defence, CarExpert and CarExplore do read quite similarly at a glance. I shall try and do better in the future. (Please stick around to get the latest scoops on dealing with old Nissan shitboxes )
    • Don't bother. The poor little RB20 doesn't make enough gas flow to challenge the flow capabilities of even the littlest cat, and you won't make any extra power, and all you'll do it soot up your rear bumper. Plus....is Malta not runing under Euro regs?
    • Hey Daniel, sorry to hear that and thanks for posting up for us at a really hard time I only knew SmoothLine through the forums, we never met as we are based in different states, but when he was most active on here he was quite a while back so not many of the current crowd might remember him. I am pretty sure he was active in the Queensland SQU club but that is defunct now too (times are changing and we are all getting older). Farewell SmoothLine!
    • Turns out depending on whether the car was equipped with TCS or not there are different signals coming to the dash, meaning there are different speedo clusters.  Wired in a speedo calibrator box from aliexpress and now works fine.
