Hey, just wondering if anyone has had their car re-trimmed lately.

I'm looking at getting mine (when it finally arrives) retrimmed probably in black or dark grey leather with colored stitching/piping. Its an R32 GTR so front GTR seats, back seat and door trims.

I'd be keen to hear from anyone who has had a retrim done (or an upholsterer even), and get some idea on cost.

So anyone who has had any interior work done(any car, and not just leather) please post here with whatever details you want to leave.

Thanks.

Yeah dude, hopefully. I'll def do the photos too. I have no idea at all either, and my car hasnt even arrived yet so I cant even take it to a retrimmer for a quote, thats why I hoped someone here might be in the know.

I've heard from different people, "Should be around a grand." "My mates mate got his silvia done for 1500, but that was cash man." "You wont get it done for under 2500 cash." I have no idea really, I think maybe between the last two somewhere?

I was hoping to get some idea from the forum members, but I might go and ask around a bit. Only thing is my car isnt here yet and I don't know how seriously the retrimmers will take me if I start asking questions about a car that for all they know I'm just dreaming about.

I think I will look at getting my seats retrimmed if/when I get my R32 GTR also

seen an R32 with a cream/off white retrim (red with black bonnet) that looked nice

also one with a blue seat retrim, that looked not so nice

EDIT: Duh!!, 2 posts ago, it was 2GU UP 2's car :)

I spoke to a trimmer on Monday and he said that its a pretty well a waste of time trying to retrim the GTR. Reckons the backseat is no probs, but the door panels and front seats are made in moulds or something and put together in some way that makes it impossible to re-do. I can't remember exactly what he said.

He said that every retrimmed skyline he had seen at shows etc didnt look right at all and they never last.

This guys was only a little shop in Kirrawee(South of Sydney), but he is only a few hundred metres from JustJap(where I had been moments earlier and who recommended him as they use him themselves), and he owns an R33 GTST which he had tried do for himself.

What do you guys think? Should I go for another opinion, because I can't really believe this?

Sounds like he doesn't want your business.

i know its a bit late:) but im a trimmer and yes u can retrim gts seats. you can retrim any seats. ive done plenty of them and they turn out spot on. They are a little more difficult because they are moulded on, that just means u can take em off to use them as patterns, same with most jap cars. all it means is you gotta make your own patterns. its just a bit more difficult and either this guy was shit or lazy.

I have leather recaros, what sort of $$ (ballpark) to do just:

- rear seat

- rear door cards (potentially the vinyl part with leather and suede in the inserts)

- front door cards (same)

- potentially and R32GTR vinyl dash retrimmed in leather...?

    • The hot exhaust light will come on not from just the cat being blocked, but it's just a temp sensor, and it's designed to warn you to not do things like park in long grass.   If you've been pushing the motor a bit, it can cause the light to come on.   Second if the cat is rattling, I'd suspect it's not blocked, but instead falling apart inside.   The easiest "fix" until you can get a cat put back in, is to unbolt your one, bash the rest of the insides out, and then bolt it back in.   For a daily driver/street car, I am in agreeance of put a cat in the car. If it were race car I wouldn't care if it were removed.
    • No worries at all 🫡 I think the most satisfying things to make are the little bits that are just impossible to find or they're no longer manufactured. Generally I always try to replace parts with OEM wherever possible. This little project is also great because it'll never see the light of day, but strengthen these brackets so it's not just relying on the little standard screws in the headlight plastic. As soon as I saw the standard brackets and screws I thought, "well I'm not going to install with just the screws, the plastic tabs will just snap off". It's crazy how expensive everything has become yeah. But I suppose that's supply and demand; granted it's a lot easier to get brand new genuine parts these days which is fantastic 😊, I don't have to get totally reamed at the local Nissan dealer ha ha We sure are lucky we have all these manufacturers making parts these days, a few really great Australian companies too like Platinum Racing Products and Fit Mint Automotive, what a time to be alive ❤️ . I've got my eye on the RB26 head by PRP as mine has a very fine hairline crack, so that'll need to be addressed some time in the future. If you have any requests or odd things to make feel free to let me know and I can have a crack at making replacement parts ✌️
