R33 Flashers staying on

It all started last week when the flashers started playing up.

Turning right they would cancel after the turn and then the flasher unit would keep clicking but not enough for the globes to flash. Flicking the lever to the left usually stopped this.

There was this one time yesterday when it wouldn't stop and I though I saw a small puff of smoke coming from the steering column, me thinks this is bad better have a look pronto.

Get home pull the cover of the column, pull the lever unit off, don't have to remove steering wheelwhich is a bonus, I put some silicon oil I have on the sliding parts and it seems to have fixed the fault.

But on reflection I think the silicon oil may gum up and make it worst so on the next op I will wash it out with acetone and lub it with light machine oil or leave it dry.
