LOTS!

DOHC, 4.0l 6-pack with a restricted and underloaded turbo and motor...

BIG things will be made from this platform!!

A mate just received his after a delay with the sunroof and a crack in the windscreen which was replaced before delivery.

Click here to see the professional shots he had taken the other night.

AWESOME!

Guys,

They wound the boost down on the turbo to prevent the power exceeding the XR8. They did this because otherwise no-one would buy the V8. I have heard it has serious potential, at the factory they pushed over 300kW at the flywheel during testing. Factory skylines come with restrictive airboxes and exhausts, to meet EPA, but it doesn't take much to replace them.

I think we are in for many years of fun racing these down at the drags.

Apparently it has a very restrictive airbox and exhaust.

It has a restrictor on the turbo as well which can be removed. Aftermarket companies in this country are falling all over themselves to develop this car. ANYONE that says this car has no potential is not thinking straight!

It's the same as saying that, "because of the way a factory r33 ecu retards the timing when boost is increased, it's not worth developing the rest of the car". How many of us here have aftermarket ECU's?!?!?

ridiculous! not a shot at what you said, just that i'm sick of hearing bullsnot being thrown around on this subject.

Lets think about it: Change exhaust, remove inlet restrictor and other restrictions, up the boost, BANG 300kW !!!

That's potential in my book!

:D

I agree with 2rismo, the performance shops already have parts ready to bolt-on and can't wait to replace the engine management systems, the potential will be awesome.

Aslong as they can fix the problem of the side airbags going off, casue that would be a bitch if your racing and the airbags blew up.

Deesh,

If you wanted a drag or race car then I would agree with you, but these aren't intended for that purpose. They are a luxury sports saloon, and therefore have to have all the goods that people expect these days.

I'm sure if you stripped it then you could loose 300+kgs.

These cars have just over 200kw at the wheels straight out of the box. I point your attention over to this thread on performance forums http://board.performanceforums.com/forums/...readid=67137695

Very impressive. And for those people complaining that it weighs to much...go buy a mini or something.:D

these things DO! have a crapload of potential, only thing is that i dont think the tranny is gonna hold up to much abuse,as thereve already changed 400 auto's out of the first batch made, and even the 5 speeds are going aswell, but there are strengthing them.

Also i have heard from a mechanic that words at Fords in broadmedows in the warranty/workshop that the only problem is the crank, rods etc and to get the power out of these things and to still be reliable all these things will have to be changed

    • Can you enlighten me on your best practice regarding these hoses? I don't wanna make the same mistake if you already got a better solution.
    • I have some silicon hoses already, for example engine to watercooler. But yeah, I get the sentiment. The lower intercooler silicon hose is drippy too, despite not being very old. Does anyone except Nismo make these same lines out of rubber? Long term I think they'd be the better replacement, especially since the car won't live as hard a life anymore as in the past nor be driven as often.
    • I know most issues are just age related. But for example the turbo oil drains, there is dash adapters for these and you can just make a braided teflon line for them and (probably) never have them leak again. Also not terribly expensive. Can you even get the factory hardlines from new? Or are they repairable if they break?
    • I know it'd be much much easier with the tool. I hope I can find one that won't take 3 weeks to get to me an isn't a "Asian models kit" that has tons of (to me) useless adapters for a load of cash.   It's a summer project/fun car. I do wanna enjoy it, without endless downtime over and over. So yeah I would even go and buy an engine crane + stand to save myself the trouble of hard to reach or unreachable places going bad later on. Would also be a good opportunity to put on a Fluidamper, renew the mains seals and stuff like that. I have some money on the side that I can use for that, what I wouldn't want to or be able to do is let everything be done by a shop or have my engine completely rebuild right now. I intend to do most of the "doable" jobs myself. Pulling an engine can't be that hard, can it?
    • Evening all. Got this odd issue with my R34 GTT. If I let the car idle for around 15 seconds or more (even when cold) and I jab the throttle a bit, a decently sized plume of blue/grey smoke comes out the exhaust. Doesn't smoke when idling alone, just when giving it some gas after idling. No smoke on cold start or from what I know, normal driving. Not 100% sure about smoke on decel but I don't think there's any. Any pointers on what I should start doing to troubleshoot it? Or if anyone has experienced the same I'd love to get some insight. Cheers.
