rb26 engines i have seen for around 4k. i have been told for a bare motor u might be able to get one for 2->2.5k???(no turbos, manifolds, wiring etc) an rb30 bottom end would be a cheaper option and give more torque but rev not as high without some crank work afaik.

Rebuilds all depend on what parts and how far you want to go.

Best bet would be to call up some workshops and tell them what power your chasing and get them to recommend what parts will suit and price it'll be.

280 plus kw....well it depends, is there anything wrong with your bottom end at the moment? An rb30 bottom end has proven results and wont be as expensive as buying a 25 bottom end and then building it from there. However, if you have an ok rb25 bottom end, then you can build that up using forged pistons and crack&pressure tested, shot peened rods....or forged rods if you so desire. Expect anywhere from 5-7k, but like jamie said, it all depends on what parts you want and how "bulletproof" you want to make it.

whats involved in building an rb30 bottom end do i need a new head or does the standard head bolt straight on how about gearbox does it bolt straight up etc etc

in case your lazy and cant be bothered reading that thread. No you dont need a new head, and yes the box bolts up...it's a relatively simple procedure that most workshops are well and truly accustomed to by now.
