Here's something that I will be pursuing after doing plenty of research, pricing of "name" brands, and watching performances at a Morgan Park Raceway (Warwick Qld) meeting.

TRW produce pads branded as Lucas, primarily in the Euro market so I'm told. Pricewise they are very sharp, and the pad materials are disc friendly (read fairly soft and dust heavy) but extremely heat resistant if bedded properly. To be fair they're probably not directly comparable with some of the high $$$ pads that some guys and girls go for (EBC, Pagid), but the overall value for occasional track use means you could buy and consume a few sets before spending the same.

Seeing the results at the race meeting, a couple of guys running Lucas pads finished their sessions with smoke wafting from the brake assembly but reports of consistent, strong retardation. Evidently they ran better with a couple of sessions behind them.

I'd like to hear of any experiences with this brand, but plan on sourcing a set for my s.1 R33

I got a pair of lucas pads for the rear of my 32.. They are a little dusty, but not overly so. No massive wear on the discs or anything like that. They seem to do the job pretty well, but just having them for rears on mine a little hard to tell definitively.

I was recommended RB74 for the front, and lucas as a decent well priced pad for the rear. I really should get those rb74's on the front that have been sitting there for about 2 months to see how the whole setup goes - really just waiting for some power to get the motivation up

I have an R32 and got some Lucas pads. I only drive around town no racing, but I have been slightly unimpressed. As above mentioned, they are quite dusty, but also, I was told they are really good for no squealing, but mine have squealed ever since I put them on, not bad most of the time, but still not as good as my previous ones.

Put it this way, I would hate to see cheapo pads if lucas are mid/high range.

I got Lucas on the rears and RB74's on the front. I find them to be quite good but a little bit dusty.

The RB74's are driving me crazy. They are sooooo noisy. everytime I hit the brake I get this brain peircing pain. Also, they are quite a bit dusty.

The setup was recommended by RaceBrakers and I was told Lucas are good but wont bite as hard as the RB74.

i compared lucas pads to ds 2500 ferodo on an r32 gtr with brembos, daily driver. the lucas pads were dirtier, had worse cold retardation, bad initial bite, poorer high speed retardation and less pedal feel. i think they are crap and were a waste of money. just my 2c.

i agree...have the same setup and had the same results

Thanks for the comments, I will check out the Ferodo a bit closer. Who makes RB74?

Just as a side issue on the noise, nedb, did you service/inspect the calipers and mounting surfaces of the rotors when installing the pads? This might be a source of the squeal.

cheers

The service place did it. At the same I had the brake system flushed and refiled with some Motul stuff. I belive it was 5.1.

I bedded them in as per instrucrions. Initially there was no noise, but now after 8 months and about 10000 kms they are very noisey. There is still about 3-4mm left on them.
