Nice to see that the East has it's own

*my tuner is better than yours* dramas as well.

I thought it was just a WA problem.. :)

My advice is to stick with a shop you are comfortable with and get a rapport with the owner.

Our regular clients get a lot better service/time/sympathy that the ones you know who jump from shop to shop trying to get a better deal.

Cheers

Ken

TUNER FOR HYPER-TECH

Eric Schlifelner is one of the industries most highly regarded performance car tuners, and specializes in Nissan Skyline GTRs. Eric was formally the Group A Engine Development Manager for Winfield Racing/Gibson Motorsport. Responsible for the engine development process, he produced some exceptional engines during his nine years with the team. Erics engines dominated the GTR racing program from start to finish, and in 1991 and 1992 won Australias most challenging Group A car race, the Bathurst 1000.

an if he is that good then how come not that many people go their? price? waiting list??????

or maybe ben is better but, i cant find any tuning history about ben? has anyone got any?

Just coz Ben didn't work on Group 'A' cars 15 years ago doesn't mean he's not good at what he does!!! I don't see Eric punting his GTR around Sandown in 1:15, mind you driving the car to and from the track.... or hang on a sec, does he even own one??? Who cares....

My understanding why people don't go to Hypertech is coz they don't have a small fortune to spend on their cars, and are not part of some race team with big sponsorship...

I'm not saying that Hypertech are bad at what they do but I can definetly tell you that some of their customers have ended up at Racepace, and have never looked back...

All I can say is that if your asking people on these forums what experiences they've had with Hypertech, you won't get many answers....

Yeah I know that, all I'm trying to say is I don't think that there are many people here who have had experiences with Hypertech....

Has anyone actually seen hypertech work?

There is absolutly no doubt as to the quality and finish of every racepace product/service. Ben is the man.

Man what is it with all these threads lately.... LOL, yuo have been to both workshops so arent you in the best position to suss out who you are happiest with?

Fark another racepace thread.

come on. I love ben's work, no one else (apart from the mad greek my mate) touches my car.

but enough is enough.

wen i first got my gtr i was recomended from every direction to go c ben at racepace,

but purely for driving distance reasons (nearly 2hrs to racepace) i went to ICE, which i'm quite happy with, great bunch of guys... about to have my second tune there soon,

for me.. friendly service, competant tuning and location are all that matter, not fussed if someone can pull an extra 2kw out of a tune or not as i dont track race etc., as long as my engine is smooth and doesn't blow the next day i'm happy.. :)

anyway, basically i just rekon what most of the others have been saying.. if your happy where u are.. why think about changing.. :)

Sure you will! He'll make sure he lighten's your wallet severly enough for making him do a mundane job!

Just ask Ash hehe :)

:P indeed.

Ive worked on different things myself before and its nothing short of a pain.

Benno take it on no worries and that suit me fine.

Never a problem too big :P

LOL... Good try, but I could hardly compare this thread to the stoush you lot used to have.

For one, you don't have the tuner from either workshop coming in and spouting shite all over the place. :)

Next time you see Eric, ask him what he thinks of Ben's GTR !!!

I should stop here.

hehe, yep, it got a bit heated sometimes.

Not having dealt with either of the dudes you lot are talking I still say go where you are comfortable/your wallet can afford.

Huge prices does not a good job make...

It's all in the competency of the guys at the shop and who there past clients are or what they have achieved.

We never get the same power on the dyno as a lot of other shops around town except our cars tend to be up near the front at the drags/races/SES..

btw, Bens GTR in the latest SPEED is one VERY impressive, well thought out ride.

Cheers

This isn't a go at you mate, just a comment.

Anyone know what the fastest lap Eric's Gibson GTR ran around Sandown? 1.15.7 on qualifying trim and tyres - for those who don't know, qualifying trim they usually run fastest.

Anyone know what bens quickest time around Sandown is? 1.15.0 flat.

Difference is Bens car isn't stripped out, isn't running slicks, but its a street car.

Do you know what times hypertechs cars run around sandown club days these days? Nothing under the 1.20's as far as i know....

Yeah but Ferni - your not really comparing apples with apples mate.

The Gibson R32 didn't have an RB31DET in it making 500rwkw's.

And again it's a little hard to compare most Racepace cars with Hypertech cars. From most cars I have seen at Hypertech they have been built to "Targa Spec". Now I doubt there is much hope that the Whites Targa winning GTR would run under 1.20 at Sandown. Benno is well known for his club / street GTR's. I don't know if he's ever tried to get the max out of a car built for Traga Spec and if so how it compares to one of Eric's.

I also don't know if Eric has tried to build a single turbo club track GTR. I really hope to get Eric down to one of our club meetings one night as I'd personally love to hear about the engineering of the Gibson cars. Maybe he can answer some questions on street GTR's there.

True, but you also have to remember the gibson GTR was on full qualifying slicks, stripped out, race preped... also driven by a profesional driver.

Have you ever spoken to eric? I haven't but quite a few people tell me he's very arrogent, so i wouldn't hold your breath on him coming down to a meeting.

I'm with the Snowman on this one, the Gibson GTR's were built to restrictive Group A regulations and you can't compare them with cars built with total freedom. I have this discusion from time to time with John from UAS about his Zed. He brags his Zed is faster than the race GTR's, but they are built to regs and his Zed is free of any restrictions. Whatever he wants and can afford to do, he has the freedom to do it.

If the cars are not built to the same regulations then it is simply a contest of which workshop has the richest customers. What separates a good race shop from the rest is the ability to make a car faster using the same equipment, with the same limitations on mods.

;)

PS; Techonolgy marches on, for example stick todays race tyres and shock absorbers in the Gibson GTR's and they would be heaps faster. Take out the ballast they had to carry and they would be faster again.

    • Update:   smoke test all pipes no issues cleaned reservoir   fluid put in ( dexron 3 atf)   steering turn side to side and could hearing  gurgling from steering rack which I assumed was air lock, opened one of the steering rack connections and could see loads of air getting pushed out( not sure if you meant to do that / whether it will re introduce air into system)   anyways, loads of side to side sound was gone. Turned car on, pump was slightly ( barely) wining so turned side to side few more turns and fluid level when car on was almost none in resorvoir which I guess is normal if car is one. Turned car of and fluid was gushing out. Almost 200-300cc was pushed out. Repeated engine off side to side followed  by engine on and same result       going mad now. It seems system is either sucking air in whilst on or there is tons of air which I am not giving it enough time to bleed. Thoughts?   would it work like brake caliper if I open steering rack copper pipes and let gravity pull all air out?
    • Yeah, the plan is to just put some black rubber vacuum line caps over them to "hide" them a bit I don't want to trim them in cause I need to put the OEM box back on at some stage
    • It's a load sense idle up valve.
    • Plug and play. Need a tune. It's a PowerFC, same as any other PFC, just not needing an AFM.
    • Genuine GTR seat? There are none you would actually want for <$3k a pair.
