Progressing on from the "I want to bend over for Benno" thread, it's time to find out people's hobbies besides cars.

I used to gamble a fair bit at the casino and I was wondering what others thoughts were out there in regards to gambling. Also, with the influence of television, all the wannabe World Poker champions out there it seems that Texas Hold Em is the new flavour. Pokies give me the absolute sh!ts. I reckon if people wanna play pokies, they may aswell just give their money to me and I'll show them a better time ;)

Personally, I used to play a hell of a lot of baccarat and if I was in a rush, I'd play blackjack. As some of you may or may not know, I ended up doing ok for myself playing these games and it got me through 9 months of life until I went back to uni to complete my degree. I even did it while I was at uni (not full time) and made money for my mates at uni. After awhile though, as most jobs do, it got boring and it wasn't as satisfying as earning your own salary/wage, hence I gave up.

I'm just curious as to what do you play, what was your capital layout and how'd you end up going with it? Would you do it again?

AY!!! - pokies take skill too............... but on a serious note, besides pokies all I can play is Roullette - I can stuff around with BJ and poker etc - but would never bet money on it, im not that good.

Keen to learn cards though... I guess i'll have to get someone to teach me.

Roulette I normally seem to do OK at. Had a few good runs on the Pokies but the novelty of them has worn off. Don't go out that much anymore but maybe we should organise a casino night?! Leewah can win and we buy him red bulls all night!

Bj sucks the big wang, you get too many idiots on a table that screw it up for everyone else because they havent heard of basic stratergy, card counter, well i know for a fact that most of them are worse of for doing it.

Roulette, having delt it i know that its not so much dumb luck as to where the ball lands. There is far more dealer infulence that what you might think. Eg after 4 months dealing it i could get it to within 3 or 4 numbers of what i wanted it to be. You can look at the way a dealer is dealing the game and figure out which section the ball is going to drop in, this increases your chances of winning dramatically. Eg i walked up to a table, watched the dealer for 2 minutes, put $2.5 on 21 and guess what shows up, 21, $82.50 later i walk off coz i had to go and meet some friends.

Horses!

I'm not a huge gambler. But for that one month between Mid Oct and Mid Nov I become an expert in horse racing.

It's mostly a social thing. And a drinking thing. I mainly go with the attitude of losing my money but think of it as just paying for a day of entertainment. That way on days when I do win its a bonus. And there have been plenty of days where I have won.

But I find the best thing with going to the races is that each race is nearly an hour appart so you can only lose once every so often. Plenty of time to have a drink and admire the ladies inbetween. The pokies steal your money once every 5s - I just don't get them.

Jarrod:

Can you tell us more about what you mean by looking at the way a dealer is spinning?

Do you mean look at the sector of the roulette wheel the ball tends to land, or do you mean look at the start position of the ball and then the end position of the ball and from that, make a guess based on that?

So take for example the picture of the American wheel in the attachment below...

Would it be possible for you to say... Spin the ball at 00 and make it land around 5, which is a quater of the wheel off in an anti clockwise direction. And given this observation, be able to bet around the number 16 on the wheel if you saw the dealer spin the ball from the 30 position?

I hope im making sense...

A smart gambler knows the following 2 things. If they follow these rules, they won't get themselves into trouble IMO.

1. Set a loss limit. Do NOT go in there thinking you'll win. If you do, it'll be the end of you. My rule is not to go to the ATM after I walk in. I will be prepared to lose whatever I walk in with. If I win, it's a bonus, if I lose, it was expected.

2. Set a winning limit. Don't try to make $5k from $100 coz it ain't gonna happen. The best I ever did was make 22k from 2.5k. It took 8 hours and it was painful by the end of it. If you can make 25% on your capital, you're doing well. Walk away and use your winnings for something else.

That way, things are still fun and you come out on top.

Looking at the way a dealer spins; its within a sector usually, a good dealer can land the ball within one or two number either side of a number that they want to spin the ball to. You have to watch things like if the dealer spins the ball fast or slow and the same with the wheel. That will tell you if the ball is likely to go to the opposite side of the wheel eg 4-24 or somewhere around there. So if they spin the ball fast once, then on the second spin slow it will often land on the opposite side of the wheel, from my experience anyway.

Always take note of whats on the christmas tree and look for any patterns, and as leewah said dont go in there expecting to win coz you'll just do your dosh.

AHhh now it makes sense waht you said in the other thread about roulette being ok odds.. the odds themselves aren't good, but by reading the way the dealer is spinning the ball you can increase your chances... nice You'll have to teach me that one.

I can play basic blackjack, and understand how basic card counting works but haven't had enough practice.. starting playing texas no limit holdem tournies online recently (just play money so far), not bad, enjoying it.

I enjoy Roulette and Blackjack but also have a couple of favourite pokies at my local leagues club.

I like Roulette the best because it takes more brains than just hitting the "20 lines" button on a pokie.

My limit is $20 and if I get to $35 I pull out. Most of the time i'll be at it for about 30-45mins hovering around $20-25 so usually either break even or pull out $10.

What I find really funny is their will be atleast 1 person (5 person table) that will bet $50-100 per hand but can't win back their money even if their numbers come up, its so funny watching them get frustrated and walk away with $0.

A few weeks ago their were 2 guys beside me betting $100/hand each and they would spread their money over 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36 (1 guy would do 1-12 whilst the other would do 13-24 etc). So I just kept putting a couple of dolars on the remaining 3rd and won every game whilst they'd only win a decent amount every couple of games.

Those who want to give card counting a go, good luck. There are 8 decks of cards in a shoe at crown, and one deck is cut out, so there are about 52 cards there that you wont know what they are. Food for thought if i make any sence, its late, and its been a long night at work.
