Recommended Posts

thank god!! but im still heaps pissed!!!

my b/f has lost his licence for no p's when he gets it back - after july 11 do u think he will be effected??

i have seen statistics that show that more people kills themselves a year using a toaster or other kitchen/electrical equipment than they do in turbo cars- are they going to ban p platers from the kitchen too??

Menthu_Rae ur a champ. All you guys who dont have ur P's dont give a F*ck, u make me soo pissed off. Cant u see how us P Platers or soon to be P Platers will be affected? Im with Menthu_Rae I sometimes want to punch u and all those government ppl and the RTA in the head for enforcing such ludacris rules...Whoever kills themselves in t turbo cars are d*ckheads and they prob deserve it.....its their fault. Which should not be taken out on the rest of us.

mate with an attitude like that you should be limited to your tricycle until you grow some grey matter, and you too menthu rae. ;)

He probably will be affected.

I think you will have to show us these statistics.

Great attitude mate - clearly you have absolutely no understanding of the motives behind the new ruling

Heres a thought, these "dickheads" you mention that deserve to kill themselves, what happens when in doing so they collide with another car and take out a familly at the same time?

Moron

Whilst I don't agree 100% with OC's views, I don't agree with some of the older people in this thread either - there are people out there who are simply tools, and you are not going to stop them killing themselves, OR other INNOCENT people unless you stop them from getting behind the wheel in the first place!

So young mr hoon anonymous can't drive a turbo car... well, now he can't get to 100 in 6 seconds - so instead he'll have to settle for something that can do it in 7...

I believe this law will cut down on things such as illegal drag racing and incidents surrounding very high speed/showing off - such as the R34 crash earlier in the year... however - you will not stop it all together...

So Blitz, this is what I'm saying - put mr hoon anonymous into a 30kW barina - and he will still not think, and still floor it everywhere - the ultimate solution is *not* the power. This is why I agree with the law, but *not* with what some of you guys are saying!

Yes he will be!!! If you lose your licence, revert back to Ps whatever after july 11th, then he will be affected... so if you have your Ps... don't lose them....

I'm saying that it's not and SHOULD NOT be the only solution provided by the RTA/Government.

agreed!! more driver training dammit!!! even though that doesn't compete with real experience on the roads, its a start...

Thank you for creating a stereotyped opinion of me from a simple forum post, and something a 16 year old has said... Age changes the way you perceieve things - and obviously what I'm posting, some people will understand it and view it the way I *meant* for it to be viewed - however, OC has taken what I said and applied his views to it... they are his words - not mine...

Look at what I'm saying - without prejudice or stereotype or any bitterness... You don't even know me or anything about me... If I needed grey matter - why would I be studying Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering and aiming to be in Aerospace eventually? Please don't just throw me in with everyone else...

Menthu: There are plenty of valid points being made on this issue, but I cant stand those made by people who have zero understanding of the reasoning behind these new laws who are just pissed because they cant have a high power car.

Some people are responsible drivers, and/or have a requirement for a higher powered car and they are the ones presenting a mature argument - 16 year olds who have yet to even get a license are not.

Im a big supporter also of the driver training debate, though I guarantee you most typical P-Plate big talkers who believe they are invincible and should have the right to drive a turbo car would FAIL even a basic defensive driving test miserably.

Bottom line, a 17 year old simply does not have enough experience to handle most situations on the road in a normal car, let alone a skyline/200 etc - though there is always an exception

Blitz, I agree with what you're saying - especially the last line. I think that experience is the key, along with driver attitude - so whilst these limitations are good now, I think they should go further.

Bring in some form of compulsory driver training, and then an optional component which would allow certain cars to be driven, say to a certain power/weight ratio - but perhaps without modifications.

With a system like this, people would benefit from the experience - and those who want to drive a more powerful car, can do so after completing certain tests and gaining experience in such cars in a controlled environment - where they can be shown the consequences/responsibility of such a car.

I think this is what the average person (the type that push for these laws) fails to see though - they think... just stop young people from driving fast cars... they dont think, teach young people, show them through example, and provide them with an environment that promotes safe and responsible driving.

You know what burns me about this is that

P-Platers will just take their P's off .

Then the cops will notice this

hence more harassment for me for driving a skyline (which i get enough of already)

This 5H1T never ends

And for those who think that the rest of us will benefit from is , is wrong

dont think insurance premiums will go down

because that will take many years, and that’s even if this law is effective!!!!

Rang the RTA this morning as im currently sitting out my suspension at the moment.

But from what they told me, he shouldnt be affected at all. I think it goes by the date of the incident, hence it was prior to July, before the law was introduced

is it date of re issuement? or date is was suspended.. left hope for your sake Mr_G it date it was suspended...

i think it will be better off for the majority of the population, but they will never stop people on P's driving turbo'ed cars as people will just drive without P plates

Does anyone know if u can register a turbo car still if you on your P's or have lost your licence? of is it just if u get caught u get f**ked up

Could someone please help me...

I just want to know one simple fact...

I have been told like 20 different storys today...

I am on my reds and have been since december...

I own an R33 NA, i am looking to purchase an R33 GTST asap and if i am not able to purchase it between now and the 11th of july and i not legially allowed to drive it...?

Could someone please put my mind at ease?

Cheers,

Sindows

I just have a few questions if anyone could shed some light?

What kind of occupation would require a high powered vehicle in dense areas of city?

What exeptions would be allowed? If my family only owns a Turbocharged Sportscar, or a V8 Holden could i drive it or not?

Anyone who says 30kw/50HP car should be it for P platers is an idiot, a *huge swearing* idiot!

I drove a diesel merc with 80kW and 0-100 time of 15.15 secs on my Red Ps and it caused me NOTHING but TROUBLE, trouble in traffic, trouble in dangerous situations - hell, what WROTE THE CAR OFF was its lack of power! (was pulling out of a carpark, and by the time i got out into the lane, another car had come over this crest and had seen me - it was 100% clear when i went!)

Mind you, I also lost my licence driving that diesel merc, with 80kW of grunt, in a 1600kg car... so power is NOT the problem!

EDIT: Some of you need to see the bigger picture here...

Like I said - I studied all of this at uni in great detail - CARS are not the problem, it's the DRIVERS and the SYSTEM and the ROADS. This can easily be seen by looking at other countries and their systems, and their road toll compared to their population!

Whilst I agree with your push for more driver education, I also agree with the banning of high-powered cars for P-plate drivers.

No matter how much education and training you have (and going by your other posts, your parents made sure to expose you to all driving conditions), the simple fact of the matter is that all P-platers lack the EXPERIENCE that might just save their lives whilst driving a powerful car. End of story.

Losing your licence in the Merc was 100% your fault. If you were able to lose your licence in an 80kw diesel Merc, do you really think that giving you access to a 400kw GTR would make things any better? No.

End of the day, if comes down to this. When you get your P's, you've been driving for 1 year. You have very little driving experience, compared to the rest of the drivers on the road. What NEED could you possibly have, for driving a turbocharged car / V8? Answer? You don't NEED to drive a fast car on your P's. It's a WANT. It's dangerous for you, and other drivers on the road, therefore.... DENIED.

You don't NEED to drive a fast car on your full licence either, but at least by that stage you have 4 years driving experience under your belt and hopefully enough maturity to handle a more powerful car.

Again, I think the way to solve this is through driver education, but if power restricting P-platers will result in less lives lost on the roads, is that a worthwhile agenda? YES.

Mitch..

The rule doesnt affect those already on their P's..

however, if you get your licence canned after 11th July it will...

The rule majorly affects those applying for their P's after 11th July...

Bottom line guys - laws are made for the majority of the population....like anything there are exceptions.

Grab a random sample of 100+ under 18 drivers and test 'em - guaranteed to be worse than any other driving age group...unfortunately a fact.

Im not condoning the rule or the thinking - just "layin' it out for y'all to play it out...

    • You cut that screenshot a little short; immediately below it  First number is torque in Nm, then in brackets kg-m followed by ft-lb I'm not sure why they provide a range, I have always aimed for about 80% of the top to leave a little room for error
    • I downloaded the gtr r32 manual which I understand will be pretty much same as r34   i rear the page in screenshot and if I understand correctly, the torque for the 4 bolts are 78-98 nm. Why a range?    what does number below it mean( 8-10 ,52-78)?
    • I doubt you'll find someone with specific experience. Any competent mechanic can service it, the motor is same as late 350z.
    • I saw the s15 version but will it be enough force for my clutch? I guess just repairing the booster is the best option
    • recently picked up a very clean example of an NA r34 and want to start dropping in some turbo parts I've got laying around.    Wondering if anyone on here has chucked in a complete GTT Diff - is it straight drop in or will I have headaches? Looking to upgrade to the nismo 1.5way - but I would prefer to use the complete turbo rear end if I'm able.    Also. I have a complete manual conversion here waiting to drop in, but I need to confirm which clutch bearing carrier I need,  Brand new R34 Gtt gearbox with push type conversion. Any solid advice would be greatly appreciated.
