Was doing a bit of shopping around for tyres today and was quoted $900 flat for a set of these in 235/40 18 and 265/35 18 fited n balanced.

Quite a good price compared to some of the nangkangs out there for similar sort of money. Would like to know if anyone has had experiences with these tyres. Have been checking out the net and they've been given a 4/5 for noise and life and 3/5 for grip. They are non directional which is ok by me. I don't do any track or drag work, mainly highway driving and the occasional cruise :D If there are any other recommendations under the 1k mark would like to know as well.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Jon

crap crap crap. Try a search for "falken +326" and tell me if you find anything other than bad reviews.

You have a great performance car. Spend about $1500-200 for tyres instead of $1000 you will be amazed how much quicker your car is.

Much bigger difference than any shiney intercooler would ever make :D

i am afraid i have to agree...they are currently on my gtr at the moment and i find that they are worse than the $200 a set inceptors i had on my VK 5L. I kept understeering turning into streets at low speeds in the wet. Not exactly the safest of tyres!

I've run the Zeix 512 tyres on an RX7, and agree that in the wet they're not the best. That said, the breakaway is very predictable so are pretty safe in my opinion. They're also pretty good in the dry.

BUT, I'd rather spend a few more £/AU$ or whatever and get the Falken FK451 or the Kuhmo Ecsta - both of which are excellent tyres, and both of which I prefer to the really expensive stuff like Proxies and F1s etc.

If you like the Ecstas man, wait till you get a decent tyre on there. I found even them to be horible, I had them on the front and they wore out 6months quicker than my rears, as they just slid everywhere.

As I have been told by my suspension guy/s. Get Jap brand tyers only, and limit it even more to Yokos, and Brigs, he even then went on to say their cheap stuff is just that.

I have Brig GIIIs and I think they are pretty good, wear is fair on them, road noise I wouldnt have a clue, I cant hear the exaust over the diff, so tyre noise isnt there.

All manufacturers make good tyres and crappy tyres. I have used Kumho Ecsta 712s and found them to be pretty good. The Ecsta MX are apparently even better.

Using T1Rs on the GTR at the moment...and they are excellent. The Toyo TPGs are pretty average though.

Yokohama make good and bad too...A306's are pretty poor.

Same with Falken, 326 is crap, but 451 is good.

Like Duncan said, you really need to go for one of the manufacturers higher end (more expensive tyres)

n15m0 if you want good tyres for around the $1000 mark you should look into Hankook K104.

I just put them on my car (yesterday) after doing some research, eliminated my vibration problem and feel good, to early to rate them though. There is a thread in this category of the forum on the K104s and eveyone thats used them has only good thinkgs to say.

I was thinking about getting 18" rims with the same tyres size you got and was quoted $1040 for the rubber, but you should be able to get it cheaper.

oh and due to me drifting around a roundabout in the wet i ended up hitting the kerb which cost me a NEW WHEEL!!

and i wasnt even trying to drift, i just did a u turn and hit the accelerator and i was sliding all over the place and then BAMMM cost me 400 bux for a new wheel ! it was a pretty hectic drift though haha until it cost me 400 bux lolz

$400 for 18s???? That can't be right anyways...should have done a search b4 asking the stupid question...:) Thanks for all the input. Got a set of Goodyear GSDIIIs quoted at around $1800 fitted. Will try and get a few more quotes before deciding. Meantime, if anyone has any recommedations with pricing let me know.

Thanks!

yeah same in the wet i was fkn drifting just with a slow take off from the lights haha

and ur getting ripped off for them tyres too

i got them fitted for 400

    • I removed the head expecting to find broken and bent valves, but instead found number 1 at TDC and cylinder 2 at the top of its cylinder stroke as well, thought that was weird and proceeded to push cylinder 2 back down until it either bottomed out on its other piston half or the conrod either way we found the issue kind of,  now to remove the engine and see how the block looks, hopefully its just the top off a piston.
    • A little more work this week.  Fitted astra power steering pump in the boot with a lowe fabrication bracket. Gave the pump a good clean, fitted Anderson plug and high pressure fitting. With the intercooler being flipped under rad support factory headlights weren't going to work. Ordered a set of origin battle lights, they arrived so got them test fitted. Will require some fiddling to fit nice but was an easy quick option for now. And today we pulled out the manual Rb gearbox and test fitted a ZF 8HP50. It will fit with some casting tabs cut off and small tap of the tunnel with a hammer. Pick up the adapter plate Wednesday so hopefully all bolted in Friday and measure for tailshaft which will be a 2 piece. Been doing a lot of ecu, pdm and tcu loom design so when comes to wiring it in a few weeks will all go smoothly.
    • FYP. Sadly. Even bolt cutters wouldn't take 2 sec. But in the days of 18v angle grinders, nothing is safe.
    • One piece driveshaft I would recommend a dual CV setup otherwise stick to OEM. I have heard most one piece driveshafts cause excess vibration otherwise. The transmission grind I'm quite familiar with. You can try shockproof gear oil, otherwise you need a new transmission. The shifter is extremely simple on these cars. If you want pull apart the assembly and replace the plastic bushing but I doubt that fixes anything. The tail light issue is very common, unfortunately new tail lights are long discontinued. The trunk antenna going up always is because your radio doesn't have a true power antenna control, just remote amp power signal. There is a blank switch plate that you can pop out and install a switch for this or alternatively source a head unit that has proper antenna control. Throttle body sticking you have to disambiguate by disconnecting the cable and seeing if the linkages are the problem or something else. There is a procedure to adjust them, refreshing them is also somewhat involved if that's the issue. I have dealt with many of these issues. Old cars really are fractals of problems. The more you fix the more you discover there is to fix.
    • Welp, you've got a long list of experiences right there. I'd say you're on the right path.
