Hi guys i am currently looking at putting a pod in my car for better airflow but i really dont want to be defected for it. Does anyone know if putting a pod in makes much of a diffrence or is it just better to put a better filter in the standard airbox? Another option i thort of is putting a pod in side the air box to hide it and cutting away a bit of the airbox for ventalation, but i dont know weather it will be worth the trouble.

Any information will help

thank you.

use the search function on the site, there's heaps of info on this topic.

I have replaced my blitz pod with a k&n panel filter in the stock air box, and havent notices any difference in performance. I've done this as i'm upgrading my stock intercooler and want to keep everything legal.

high-flow panel filter in standard airbox is your friend...

Pannel filter in airbox is good but when I put my cooler on I could not put the CAI part of the airbox back on because the piping was in the way so it was sucking hot air. I put a Apexi pod on, partitioned it off, and ran a cold air feed from the front bar to the older cooler piping hole under the pod. Made a difference in my case.

Just curious, I was at the autosaloon and they were selling ARC box filters.

Would this be legal in NSW? or would it be treated just like a pod filter?

Obviously any police seeing an ARC box would know it's not standard.

also are they any better than pods?

this is how my car is, no snorkel due to fmic piping, so i too have bought a pod and when i fit it will box it as you did.

so it did make a noticeable difference? small or big? i will be using an apexi pod as well so im interested since its the same situation.

I have only had it on for a couple of weeks difference in performance is small but there is a lot more induction noise witch I like. I have noticed a difference in fuel ecconomy. ;)

  • 3 months later...

since i posted last i fitted an apexi pod with cold air partition, and report back that it made very little difference when compared to a stock airbox without a snorkel.

actually, if no one told me that it had changed, i doubt i would have felt a diff at all so NO difference.

main difference is in the sound, it is extremely annoying on the freeway and i want to get rid of it on long trips :P

You can have any kind of filter you want, providing it is in a box of some sought. There was a mssive thread on here about CAI and airboxes, i think the results showed the pannel filters flow better, i may be wrong, but im pretty sure that was the case.

Good luck!

In Vic you cant have an oiled filter. But a pod doesnt have to be in a box. But you cant have a pod and an intercooler.

It would help if you say which state you are in before you ask questions about legality of mods, as all states have their own rules.

ive just installed an arc box in mine replacing the old box and performance wise picked up some mid range. but after a while you can feel the car suckin in hot air. only way around it for me is to chop and modify the original snorkel for some cold air induction.

    • The cam I am actually putting in (a few posts up) is actually smaller than my current one. At least duration/overlap wise. All the chop stuff I hear just sounds like an engine running badly, because it is. I then envision driving it around in 1st gear and being massively sad about it bucking to the beat of said chop. There is an idle video of someone with a similar cam floating around the internet, but mine is a custom cam (so is his) so it'll never be the same, plus the fact exhausts are entirely different. What I want to do is put some bullet mufflers/race mufflers in to replace a couple sections straight pipes that currently replace the two extra cats that I don't need. But this is even further down the line!
    • I can tell you now, when the bracket that the little hydraulic ram attaches to snaps, with a subframe, and V8 from an AMG C63 on it, it sounds like someone letting shotgun off right beside you. It leaves your ears ringing, and a huge thankfulness that you never ever put a body part under something heavy that's only supported by a hydraulic lift...
    • Still not a guarantee fix. I used a high quality butyl-mastiq (the black goo that's not really silicone nor polyurethane, same stuff they use from the factory that just spreads out like melty cheese), and I still get lots of water on both sides of the trunk when raining or washing the car. I also suspect the factory spoiler rubber gasket might not be sealing well, so I'm thinking of adding a thin layer of grey silicone around the bolt holes on both sides and see if that's where it also leaks from. The biggest issue is that these cars don't come with a drain hole on each side like other coupes and hatchbacks.

    • Would seem to me to be appropriate to go GTR style bar. There are options with and without N1 vent holes, with the GTR lower lip integral (because FG copy). https://justjap.com/search?q=r32 bumper
