Not sure if this interests anyone - but details are below.

TAC Minister John Lenders today called on young filmmakers to enter a film competition to raise awareness about the dangerous risks young people take on the road.

The Comp: Make a Film, Make a Difference

Required entrants to submit original concepts to win one of two $20,000 grants to make a short-film highlighting the dangers.

He said the competition was open to people aged 25 years and under and was part of the TAC’s drive to reduce the incidence of road trauma among young people.

The two winners will be given a $20,000 production budget to make their film, access to a mentor or producer and a $5,000 grant to assist with future filmmaking. It is planned that their films would be screened in Victorian cinemas at the end of the year.

FURTHER INFO

OPENS: The competition opens today.

CLOSES: The closing date for entries is 17 June.

Details including a brief are available here.

how many 3fast 3furious movies are people gonna make.

if i had the time to think of an idea i'd love to enter this just for the fun i have when making movies etc

actually, an idea i know will certainly not win: midlle aged non-import driving conservative business men and women, swerving, speeding and weaving through traffic, in car shot of the man/woman looking in review mirrion and *though* "come no barstard let me in" then cuts in front of someone while the car in front actually stops for a red light and BANG car crash. "if you're middle age, and arrogant, you're a bloody idiot"

what am i talking about, that never happens......................... *swear*

I need a new Mac - but am too old :)

Here's two ideas if anyone wants to milk them...

1. Tram passenger alighting hit by car

---------------------------------------------

Scene: 4WD picking kids up from school in inner suburban area eg: Hawthorn. Kids jump in back and are f*cking around (as kids do). Mum looks agitated (as mums do).

Scene: More kids (older and in uniform) get on tram and are f*cking around (as kids do).

Scene: 4WD seen in traffic on major road - can see tram up ahead.

Scene: Kids on tram laughing and joking and generally being little twats (like normal kids).

Scene: Kids in car messing around - mum turns to yell occasionally - can tell traffic and kids stressing her. She overtakes another car with gusto (prob driving an X5 - sweet :)). Can see she closer to the tram now.

Scene: Tram stopping (lights flashing) - show mum yelling at kids again

Scene: Inside tram kids saying goodbye to one kid who is getting off. Show kid stepping out door and... WHAM - 4WD hits kid and he's gone.

Scene: From behind tram show 4WD slamming on brakes and skidding to stop. Too late...

Scene: Emergency services on site. Cops with mum - blanket pulled over kid on stretcher.

TAC Logo & something about paying attention in busy traffic.

2. Slogan for drink driving

-------------------------------

Good for holiday period messages.

Show guy drinking at party with buddies. He seen with beer and also soft drink. Not maxi-smashed, but could go either way.

Ballsy voice over guy - "if you are going to drink and drive these holidays..."

Cut to dude's face looking up (from stretcher) with blood and hollow, lifeless eyes - car in bg wrapped around pole or bus or something. Medics pull sheet over guy and pick up gurney to put into Ambulance.

"... don't get carried away"

TAC logo.

There you have it.

Both billion dollar ideas. Use them and profit!

I want props though - make it that the 4WD has Golgo plates ;)

    • Oof, I will forevermore have those shredded gears in mind whenever someone talks about showing mechanical sympathy towards their car. Thanks for the photos, fascinating stuff!
    • Curious to see how the SpeedTek stuff holds up
    • The holdups last year were drivetrain related. I had the car out right after getting the bearing issue resolved. Third launch and the car didn't move after releasing the clutch. It had sheared all the engagement teeth off the 1st gear.    Thankfully no other damage was done. I set an aftermarket gear beside an OEM gear and found that the engagement teeth on the OEM gear were much larger and better supported. Looking through my bin of spare transmission gears I found that there are two types of tooth on the OEM first gears - the larger tooth and the smaller tooth. It looks like most aftermarket gearset manufacturers base their design on the smaller tooth. OEM large tooth left - Speedtek, OS Giken, etc or OEM small tooth right Decided to give that larger engagement tooth a try. Pressed the ring off an OEM gear and sent it to a transmission manufacturer here in the States. They did their "faceplating" operation with my synchro ring on the Speedtek gear.   I reassembled it, took it back to the track and promptly destroyed the gear itself.  I'll rebuild this and use it as a spare - thankfully just first gear and the countershaft are damaged beyond repair. Definitely disheartening but my welded on engagement tooth ring held up!  Moved to Speedtek's dog engagement design as the gears appear to be much stronger. So far they have taken much more abuse at the track. Also scored a Stillway lockout from the Netherands for super cheap. It's for some other RB transmission so it took a bit of fabrication to fit but honestly a very easy job. I also had to heavily modify the gates as they were very different.   Then for some reason at the last test and tune a silicon coupler below the throttle blew off and took out the radiator and fan. Thankfully it was in the burnout box and not down track. This car is really beating me up - I still haven't made a pass in it. Ran it through the gears many times on the street but it keeps biting me at the track.  Currently in the process of replacing the radiator and remaking the throttle pipe to remove the coupler and use a cast 90 and a vband. I WILL get this thing down the track...
    • Covers most of the above points really. There's a few exceptions but most just see driving as an irritating but necessary task they must complete if they want to get anywhere on time. Also see it as a good time to show their awesome multi-tasking abilities on their mobile and/or doing their makeup.
    • I don't believe I posted pictures of the second oil pump pickup I added so here they are. Data shows it gets oil pressure up to the relief pressure much earlier in the RPM. Is that important? Not likely... This was just another attempt to fix the bearing issues.   I also heavily opened up the inlet to the pump since it now had to flow oil from two pickups. I believe the diameter increased about 1/8".
