Does anyone else's neighbour complain about the noise your car makes?

Now my car isn't loud at all, but one of our neighbours has had a go at me twice about it!

She complains it makes a "hum" at night when I come home from work and she's in bed :)

Yeah, I've noticed mine does drone a little.....more so from inside the house...bzzzzzzzt, dunno why ? I really dont particularly give a sh#t as it is entirely legal. Compared to my old V8 Torana with twin (separate) 2.5 inch pipes with only hot dogs as mufflers....my Skyline is veeeeery quiet. I used to roll my Torana out of the driveway and down the hill and around the corner in the mornings before I started the car just so I was away from MY neighbours ! I guess the short and tall of it all is that you should really try and keep the peace within the neighbourhood....perhaps if you are running your timer, sit outside the garage or carport until thats finished so it doesn't resonate as much ??

cheers Ozzy

I hear alot of cars with noisy exhausts come past my house of a night, i admit it does annoy me a *little* however i can live with it. I really don't see the point of getting pissed off about it and provoking people. Tell the bitch to sit back with a coke and a smile, and quit her whinging about nothing. Ok, so it droans a little. Big deal. I hate people who expect the whole neighborhood to cater for them, like everybody else's world revolves around them

end of rant.

let's see how she will cope with 20+ skylines reving and bouching off rev limiter in the middle of night! :burnout:

cheers

Joe

That would really endear skyline owners to the general public, now, wouldn't it? Let's all instead come around to Pva_Glue's place at some ungodly hour and bounce our engines off the rev-limiter while Pva_Glue is trying to get some well-needed sleep.

How about a bit of consideration for other people. She may have to get up early in the morning to go to work.

If you have a timer, there should be no need to use it - just back off and drive off-turbo for the last k before you get home and you can turn the engine off immediately you're parked.

OMFG!! Lighten up mate! He was just having a joke.

Blind_Elk has a point. We really should be trying our damndest to get the heat off ourselves....we love our cars...we really dont need any undue (especially negative )attention from the general public in particular the POLICE.

I have noticed quite a bit of disregard to others and in particular police on this forum.

We need to reverse that trend, and ensure we do the right thing by ourselves. Have fun, dont give anyone any ammunition to use against us. Publicly taking the piss out of police and others on such a public forum is probably not too wise and doesn't help our cause.

Go the Skylines !

Cheers Ozzy

I wouldn't worry about it Joe. Obviously some people read these forums and take everything you type as gosple. I mean no one mentioned the Police in this entire thread yet Ozzy above is giving a lecture on showing respect to them? WTF?

Just remember when you do go around JiMiH's house to annoy his neighbour that you take off your exhaust so its nice and loud!:headbang:

Well they key is just to remember a time when *you* got annoyed with somebody making lots of noise near you.. then it seems stupid to be doing the exact same back at somebody.

But some people take things that wouldn't annoy 95% of the population upon themselves. Those people are ****wits in general in most aspects of their lives, you can never please them.

I have noticed quite a bit of disregard to others and in particular police on this forum.

Come on, most of it is just idle chatting and "I wish I could" - most people are never going to actually do these things.

With the police, I know they don't set the laws and they are just doing their jobs. In melbourne where they are now booking people for going 5km/hr over the limit, no discretion allowed - there is a fair bit of anomosity going around. Police shouldn't be tax collectors and there is much worse things than road violations that police could be handling. But it varies state to state I think...

jimi lives next door to the most retarded lady anyones ever met. there are a few stories about this crazy lady.

jimis' car is not that loud at all. he always tries to be as quiet as possible and never tries to annoy anyone.

personally im of the opinion that jimis neighbour is that chick off that movie about the skitzo;s etc in that mental hospital(i think angelina jolie's[spelin?] in it) ie shes the one that keeps chicken drumsticks under her cupboard.

needless to say, increasing noise pollution is the inevitable cost of development.... and it'll only get worse:(

i know my car wakes my next door neighbour up in the morning when I warm it up, but shes cool with it. I know that most of you would get pissed if a big v8 warmed up for 10mins 20metres away at 6 every morning. I think that the lady should take it easy, but at the same time, it always helps to be considerate when you can.

my skyline is veeery quiet compared to the old 2l riceburnin sonata I had. with just one high-flo muffler... nothing more...

I admit it was WAY too loud, and if i had kept the car I would have put another muffler in there :) but noone ever complained about the noise.. funny that...

my mum now says "as long as your car doesnt go "PSSSHT" like that annoying tiger gold hilux behind us you'll be alright"

"yeh mum whatever *psssht*" off I go :D

I can see some neighbour's points tho, i mean coming home at 2am from a night out and idling a noisy car for 3mins can be a piss off hey...

ahwell..

    • 49719 is the cooler loop. Right at the front, LHS of that diagram. Return line from rack (LP side) goes to cooler loop on RHS front of car, then back under engine and returns to bottom of tank. 49717M is feed from tank to pump. HP line out of pump is thick rubber, followed by the hard line that runs down to crossmember and runs in parallel (but opposite flow direction) to the LP return line. Nothing goes anywhere near the firewall or interior of car. The closest they get to that is the connections on the rack.
    • Thanks, plan is to drain all fluid tomorrow and do smoke test to find out the leak.   Appreciate your help and want to understand how the system work. So cooling is achieved by the long loop not any rad? The diagram seems to suggest it connects to somewhere inside the cabin and I thought that is a cooler inside firewall. If you look at the diagram it seems to show it connects to something inside firewall. I tried chasing it but not easy unless I take loads off   i am confident pump is good as fluid goes in and it gets soft( steering) but as soon as I turn engine off , loads of bubble come to surface and overflow. When engine is on , fluid level is below minimum but when off it shoots off and thinking it is sucking air in. I suspect aluminium pipe may have a crack line or whole   smoke test with no fluid should be a good start and if needed will remove the pump   In addition, the one going under the engine bay is high pressure line and one directly connecting from pump to resorvoir is return/ low pressure?   finally I searched and suggestion is to use dexron 2 but that is discontinued so bought dexron 3 as all research suggest it is compatible and shouldn’t cause any issues/ blow seals. I bought two liter of dexron 3 motul atf
    • Don't worry about. Just don't try to drive hard enough to make boost and you'll be fine.
    • Yes. This has already been said. It is a loop of hardline in front of the radiator. Because.... the pump is on the LHS and the steering rack hydraulic connections are where they always are on a RHD steering rack....on the RHS. The high pressure line goes down under the engine, along the crossmember, like it does on all Skylines. Don't just throw expensive braided hoses/other kits at it. Work out what is wrong and fix that.
    • Still got the afm on the intake, clamps are shut tight, only loose hose is the one that goes from the j pipe towards the IACV, since it's next to impossible to find a factory hose and the barbs are different sizes (I'm still using clamps on this hose to try and help it seal on the iacv side) I've ordered parts to make up the hotside of the intercooler pipes, I'll plumb it in and see what happens in a few days I suppose The turbo's internally gated, can I just unscrew the tension rod to let the gate open?
