No r34 compliance in sa yet, pvp can only do r33s atm, best enterprise are getting closer to getting compliance plates but the longer you wait the more the prices increase:(

incorrect popeye - my 4 door R34GTT is getting complied by Best Enterprises when it arrives in the next 3-4 weeks. They have plates available, and for the 4 door version (I assume 2 door is the same), the cost is $5,200 including GST, and that includes an $1,100 allowance new 17" tyres (the tyres HAVE to be absolutely brand new). I have paid a deposit and it is all organised already, so they DEFINITELY do it. Call Joanne Easterbrook 8262 6055, they are at 75 Churchill Rd North, Dry Creek. I found a place in Brisbane that can do it for $3,850 (without tyres), but the cost of trucking etc is not worth the small saving. Let him know that the car has to be COMPLETELY stock to go through compliancing - COMPLETELY STOCK - no ifs, ands, or buts. Subsequently I have tracked down some stock R34GTT wheels (thanks mxtcy), stock suspension (from Abo Bob), and am still looking for a stock 4-door exhaust. I am personally going to pick up the car from the wharfs, take it home and stock it out, then deliver it to Best Enterprises for compliancing. I think as part of the process they send it through Regency for you, so the car is ready to register when you get it back. The whole process takes around 2 weeks, and Best Enterprises have to get plate approval etc from Canberra, so need 2-3 weeks notice before they are allowed to touch the car.

I had a look at the r34 my friend was telling me about and all that has been done to it is a 3' exhaust and 18' mags. i have another friend with a completely stock r34 gtt. would this work if the 2 guys swapped a few parts while the process was happening??

That is still a good price!

Yeah, you can drive to the workshop on your tyres, but you must have a new/current receipt for them, else they will not comply. There are a heap of different things you have to do before the car can go in for compliance .... you have to sign a RAW work agreement form and pay $1,265 deposit before they can even apply for an import approval. An approval takes between 7-10 days and comes from Canberra. Only then can they even think about actually doing the compliance. It is vital you/he get a strict inspection somewhere else to make sure the car is 100% ok for compliance, as if the compliance workshop finds one tiny bit of dent or rust in the chassis or vital parts, they will immediately and without discussion brand the car damaged, and you can NEVER get it complied in Australia - even if you fix the damage. The car then has to be scrapped, or you have to pay to have it exported. They take this VERY seriously, and there is absolutly no leeway for compliance workshps, they 100% work within the guidelines.

This is a bit odd. My family work in both light and commercial aviation, and no wreck is considered "not repairable". If it is cheaper to fix than replace, it will gey fixed. (this includes planes that crash into trees and have the wings ripped off) So long as the work is signed off by a Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, all is good.

Why do they let aircraft fly after a wreck but not a car with a minor problem?

I dont doubt your word Andrew, but just dont understand the logic used by government. I guess they will do anything to protect local manufacturers.

yeah it doesn't make much sense .... even things like the tyres have to be BRAND NEW makes no sense .... as long as the tyres are roadworthy why does it matter?

But yeah, when you sign the RAWs work agreement it explicitly says at the bottom "I, xxxx, understand that if I purchase an accident damaged or rusted vehicle it will, under the import regulations, be required to be scrapped or exported." Very harsh if it is an accident repaired vehicle - even some very minor accidents are considered unroadworthy - even if they are completely professionally fixed!! Show me ANY 1999 falcodore that would satisy these criteria and I would eat my hat! (Well not literally, but you get my point).
