The simple answer is no. A bov simply stops pressurised air flowing against the turbo when you back off the gas. A bov can be adjusted to allow it to vent at different pressures but it won't encourage pinging. Pinging will occur if the intake air is too high or if running too much boost.

Bov's can affect the computer in a stock car, causing it to stall.

This happens to alot of cars when you put an aftermarket BOV on. Most people end up replacing the old one. I had no problems with mine, does the BOV need adjusting for a different release pressure? Take it to a tuning place and get them to have a look, but sometimes the engine managment just doesn't cope with the new BOV.

Search the forums, I'm sure this has been discussed many times, hopefully there will be many suggestions.

Some of the problems with aftermarket BOV's have to do with the spring adjustment. The spring may be a little weak?

I my opinion you should turf the aftermarket BOV, on skylines the factory ones are pretty darn good. If you must have a pssht sound then get a hybrid style, that vents back into the intake so as not to upset the factory ecu when it dumps extra fuel in for the air the factory bov vents back into the intake.

Aftermarket bov's don't add horsepower (when running like yours your car will be slower),attract the cops and basically suck unless you have a 24psi + boosting turbo that 'might' cause the factory one to leak.

Stalling and other such problems are common if you don't have aftermarket fuel management to go with the atmospheric BOV.

options:

1)get an s-afc or something. (riceboy)

2) buy a hybrid bov (rice boy)

3) put the factory one back on and sell the bov to a riceboy

4) check the spring adjustment on the bov and live with the stalling.(riceboy)

I find I get better respons out of my BOV compared to the stock one as it holds low level boosts at half throttle unlike the stock one which opens up at every opportunity.

you can stop the stalling by putting a plate over the stock BOV with a small hole in it so the stock one still works only at very small boost ie 1-2 psi. This way your stock BOV will still vent the useless air straight back into the intake and your aftermarket one will still work at higher boost ie 2-15psi. This will fix your problem gauranteed.

Illegal is probably too harsh, your not going to go to jail for having one. However if the police pull you over they may decide to give you a yellow sticker if you don't have a permit. If you go to the licensing center you will most likely get permit for most modifications that are done to your car.
