Can anyone please help me out, my future bro in law is experiencing some delay in receiving his 33T apparently going by what the guy said, compliance plates are taking long to get hold of, but how long is long? and is it true, the car is ready but its waiting on the plate. The car has been in compliancing for about 3 weeks I just wanna make sure that the guy is not ****ing him around.

this guy keeps telling him definetly this time but when that time comes he uses that excuse so I don't think the guy has any idea himself its no good telling him any day. I just told him to be patient and once u get u'll love it and will forget about the delay.

If approval has been granted by Canberra then the actual plate should only take 3-4 days. I believe they are made by Niddery Nameplates in Sydney, I can get the phone no. if needed. To get details of the actual plate you will need the compliers CPA no. and the Chassis no.

It is more likely the complier is holding the process up, for whatever reason.

My Car arrived in the country on 13th May. I still haven't got it.

Granted there has ben some work done to it but I think it was signed off for compliance a month or so ago. They've had to change the details on the comp forms I think so its taking extra long. Gotta be the most frustrating wait ever. Am ready to condiser finding another "Line" which has its plates already.

Grrr

It's true that dealer are all scrambling to pick up the last of the plates under the old system, but if your car has been signed off by canberra then there should be no delay. They couln't have your car signed off without a plate, this is not the actaul plate that goes on the car, so if it has been signed off then there should be no reason not to have your car. I would be around there every day hounding them to find out what is going on.

Or you can ring the Approvals center in Canberra, or Niddery Nameplates to find out what the hold-up is.

The situation is like this: the complier needs to have plate for your type of vehicle, he then complies the vehicle to meet the ADR's, send the forms to canberra for approval, once he has approval he can send off for the plate to attach to your car, once he attaches the plate to your car then it should be yours.

It may be that he couldn't get hold of a plate for your car, as they are becoming scarce, therefore this is the holdup. You need to find out at what stage the process is at, then ring the relevant body to determine if it is true or not.

I thought you had to get the plate at the very start, in order to get import approval. Then the import approval allows you to bring the car into the country. Once the car is complied and approved by the engineer, you then send off this approval and get the compliance plate stamped in canberra?

Yes you have to have a plate for the type of car being brought in, otherwise the car will get scrapped on arrival, but there are lots of dodgey deals with people swapping plates, so a car can arrive and then the complier won't actually have a plate for it. The whole process takes my mates, who are compliers, 2-3 weeks. Therefore if 2-6 months later you don't have a car, then something very dodgey is going on.

  • 2 weeks later...

some update on the situtation compliancing place is apperently closed for holidays till Jan 6th which didn't please him u could imagine....and on NYE he found out he'll be receiving his line on jan 17th which pleased him even more...just have to wait and see if he gets it then fingers crossed.......:)

My car was finished compliance on the 5th of December, which is when the paperwork was sent off to Canberra I believe.

So I've been waiting about a month now. I wonder when the plate making place opens after xmas. Starting to get sick of waiting!
