The pathetic thing is he sold his auto gen3 for a manual 'coz its quicker'. hilarious

lol, i hate how some people are narrow minded and think a manuals shitloads quicker than n auto, my 33's an auto.... and ive flogged another 33 that was manual in it, manuals are only quicker if you know how 2 change gears right, otherwise if you shift shit, of course ur gonna get beaten. stupid narrow minded bogans lol.

lol.. I've considered converting the R32 in to an auto, the 3ltr would work quite well with it.

Manuals 'can' be quicker off the mark compared to a fairly stock auto.

But they are often not consistent. However top end..

The manuals always for the same power will pull just that bit harder up top. :)

yeah thats true, still depends on the eprson drivin but lol, what if.... they stall it on take off?? i'd be laughin my ass off so much i'd proly crash lol, but meh, im a lazy man, so an auto jst makes more sense, shiftin up n down all the time... god that would annoy me :)

rb25.....are you serious??? i work on prados all the time. the 3L turbo diesels go better than the 4L V6's....the v6's are terrible.

and out dragging a new ss commodore.... i dont think so. unless the ss driver cant drive and was wheelspinning like crazy off the line whereas the 2 tonne prado, cant wheelspin, and does nothing but get traction.

get the 2 vehicles to line up again and take a video or something.

you are lazy.. depends where you live.. but everytime I go on a little mountain tour, the auto bothers me.. hard to get it to stay where you want, even rowing the stupid thing like a canoe.

Sometimes auto is fun shooting it around corners and things, but only if you can keep the revs up..

Autos are only fun if the thing will hold gear when you tell it to. My first car was the family hack with a slusho, and when I told it to get into 2nd it dropped immediately, and stayed there until you came to a complete halt or put the stick into another slot.

The new Tiptronic slushboxes change gear when they feel like it, which is quite annoying when you're barrelling towards a hairpin in a rented Boxster, and your plans of lifting off the throttle and using a combination of engine and disc braking are stymied when you accidentally touch redline and the thing pops up a gear, surging forward.

It also decided to ignore my first frantic push to get it to cog back down, so I found myself having to tap the TipTronic button twice to get it to do a single downshift. The delay between hitting the switch and the 'box doing anything (up or down) was slower than an old fashioned auto, too.

The car handled beautifully, had brakes you could punish, and bags of grip, which made the recalcitrant gearbox even more frustrating.

To modify an old adage, its better to buy a manual Porsche convertible and have people wonder if you're a tosser, than to buy a Tiptronic and remove all doubt.

we all know holdens and fords are shit. I watched my boss in his 4.0L V6 2tonne Toyota Prado with 3 of us and all our Nandos for lunch juuuust drag off a 230kW 6sp man. SS commondore owned by a co-worker. he was not impressed with his new SS. what a joke.

No I didn't know that. Maybe I am in the minority. They're not built as well as the jap cars but if you're basing your opinion on straight line accelleration then you need to get out more and drive one of these v8's in order to have a more informed opinion and not base your opinion on this Prada vs SS experience.

My R34 holds whatever gear I put it in. Downsides; on decellaration changes down into 2nd at 90 rather than 120; If you accidently change up 2 gears instead of one it takes a second before it will change back again..

Upsides; wont change gears without being told to unless coming to an almost complete stop; is quicker off the line; is great in Shitney taffic.

Bad - blows up with too much power, good - costs about as much as a really good clutch to rebuild nice and tough.

There's a hell of a lot of RB25's out there only getting 300-350km's per tank.

The majority of R33 GTST's are slow until you throw a PowerFC at it.  

When I say slow I mean an R32 RB20DET with the same mods; fmic, boost and exhaust IS quicker.

Unless its some freak arsed 95' model ecu that doesn't have the horrible power dips. One I know of some time ago pulled 200rwkw with only the mods listed above. It ran a lowish 13 sec 1/4.

I went on a 600km trip over the long weekend. Average fuel used was 9.7litres per 100km. In 6th gear cruising at 100km/h it revs at 1600rpm. That's pretty efficient. As for city driving, I average 15litres per 100km. What does a R33 do?

my 33gtr averaged about 13-14l/100km driving normally in city and maybe about 11/100km in country driving... however if I thrashed it it would be considerably more.

my brothers stock r34 gtt averages about 11.5-12L/100km normal driving and not too sure about country driving but would be a bit less.

When I had the RB20DET I average 10.6L/100km's for City Driving.

I drive fairly sedately with the 'occasional' little bit of stick through the mid range in second. Basically just bring it up on to 1bar of boost and ride the mid range as you do with turbo's.

The RB30DET on the RB20's base ignition map (not efficient due to cams that run more overlap and the 3ltrs higher piston speed) I averaged 11.6L/100km's.

After a little tweaking of the Ign. map I've finally got it down to 10.8L/100km's.

Once the bigger turbo goes on hopefully it will free up the exhaust side a little and improve fuel economy slightly again.

However, there is a hell of a lot of RB25's returning very poor fuel economy, around the region of 250-350km's per tank.

Not so many RB20DET's suffer bad fuel economy though, I do find this strange considering the R32 RB20DET's are 13yrs+ old now.

I would seriously cry and sell the car if I pumped $55 in to it and sucked a 1/4 before I got back home. lol

Open road country driving I doubt fuel economy would improve much, nothing like the V8's anyhow.

I had a VS 5ltr 5speed with a few mods prior to the R32, open road driving picked up just over 200km's per tank. That was with quite a bit of a lead foot over taking those trucks and slower sub 100km/h drivers.

640km's total on the open road (10.1L/100km's) vs the 410km's per tank around the city (15.8L/100km's).

ok so i think my 33 is pretty efficient on fuel, i mean i drove from my house 2 seymour and i had quarter of a tank ( i live about 20 mins outa seymour so its about 30kms ) filled up to full tank, picked up a mate n we drove 2 epping sitting on 120 the whole way ( thats like what.... 120kms distance mb?) drove round epping for abit, drove back to seymour, then back to my house, then drove 2 bendigo in that same night ( thats another 120kms ) and i was on my way to fill up again and thats when sum lady hit me and took my car off the road till about the end of the yr now :D. ( story about what happened is in the wasteland in the nsw p plater poll thing ).

oh and as for the auto thing.... my 33 on crusing speed ( thats 120 for me ), used to sit on about 4000rpm without going up or down unless i accelerated again which of course then its gonna go up again... makes sense, but it never used to drop real low in the revs when i was drivin around the st's normally.

i'd agree with that, i mean 400kms from a full tank sounds like alot when you say it.... but its not really when you compare it to some other cars, but i still think its pretty good for a 6 turbo, thats jst my opinion anyways.

as for the fuel question, i always use ultimate ( 91 octane is what it says in the manual, which is what i use most of the time, but i use 98 when i have enough dosh, makes my car go zoom zoom zoom hehehe ) or sometimes when i cant find a bp i use vortex. i dunno bout u guys, but ive been advised to stay away from optimax for the skylines, coz of this ( keep in mind this is only what ive been told, ive never actually tryed so i dont know for sure )...

1. it emits a bad smell from the exhaust and

2. it makes the car jumpy and can be bad for your engine.

400kays to a tank is roughly 12.5L/100km's. Far from being bad on fuel.

Similiar to that of the every day Ford Falcon.

Thats providing a fill is around 50litres.

As soon as mine shows the red light its always 50Litres to fill plus or minus a litre or two.

I always use BP fuel, I find it gets me a little more out of a tank and its also more consistant with knock levels.

I've found Mobil 8000 to be not consistent with its quality, when it is good its better then BP though.

Bran spankin new the R32 RB20DET is supposed to return 10.5L/100km's the R33 RB25DET is supposed to return 10L/100km's. Obviously the cars are far from being bran new and the figure is derived from mix of both city and open road driving. I think. :)

It probably comes down to possibly the injectors in the 33's getting clagged a little easier.

Keep the fuel system and car in good nick and it will return good fuel economy. Always change fuel filters every 6months, ensure cas, o2 sensors and tuning are all up to scratch.

rb25 - i've driven my parents VX II SS (which is only 225kws) many times, and as much as i love my jap cars, it was pretty amazing to drive. They go very well in the straights, and not to bad in the corners for what they are. I've absolutly handed it to a 350z in it, and just the other day with a full load (5 people - not me driving) we handed it to a young bloke in probably his parents prado (yes the car that you said he lost too)

All in all the R32 GTR that a mate owns is quicker and handles better then it, but the cars are in totally different leagues. a GTR is what $100,000+ new, and a SS is $49,000, and both cars are used for totally different things, a SS would suit a large family with a boat etc, and a GTR would suit someone probably with a second car for the family, or if they didnt have a family and loved the track.

Point being. a R34 will beat a new HSV, but those new 6L LS2's look pretty amazing, and probably wouldn't be 'as' far behind as they used to be some years ago.

My old R33 Gtst returned an easy 10L/100km. On the open road it got down into the 9L/100km.I clocked 30,000kms+ a year with mine as a 'work car'. Fairly stock with a free flowing exhaust, they are economical for performance they can deliver if tuned well. It ran low 13's too. If you don't need the room then an R33 gtst is a great choice for a hack.
