my 33 gts-t used to sit on about 3000-4000 rpm when crusin at like 110-130 ( its n auto by the way as mentioned up there ^^^)

as for the debate that even sparked this thread... im in agreeance with dayne.. the commys aren't bad if you have actually driven them... we own 2 of them, and my car, one of them is irrelevant coz its a vt exec wagon, the other it a vy ss ute, ive drievn that ute before ( not sure im meant to coz of the power to weight thing but meh ) and it goes alright, like dayne said... i love my jap cars as well, but i like the commys to, i'd rather be drivin a holden or a nissan than any other crappy car thats out there :P.

that is all.

our r31 series 3 exec with bog stock rb30 gets about 380-400ks from a tank - thats really only city driving - no highway/country stuff and with me driving it very spiritedly (i.e. thrashing it :D ) and driving up hill a lot (cause we live in the hills - duh)

A different slant on this story.................

We had a manual SS ute for towing the race car around before I bought the Stagea. The problems with the SS were;

1. First gear was far too high and we had to slip the clutch a lot to get it moving and that was one the flat, we learnt to never stop on hills. It had 3 clutches under warranty.

2. The traction was lousy, in the wet or on grass or dirt (plenty of that in the pits at many race tracks) it would sit there spinning the wheels. The LSD failed twice under warranty.

3. We couldn't use 6th gear, it was too high and it would die even on the flat, let alone hills. Even 5th was too high going up and down the hills on the freeway.

4. Because of all this driving around in 4th and clutch slipping first gear starts, the fuel economy was horrible, 25 litres per 100k's was not unusual.

The Stagea on the other hand has no problems taking off up the steepest hill, holds O/D and torque converter lock up on the freeway and traction is never a problem. The fuel economy is far better, we haven't achieved under 20 litres per 100ks' yet.

There is no comparison for what I use my RB25DET for:cheers:

lol, i hate how some people are narrow minded and think a manuals shitloads quicker than n auto, my 33's an auto.... and ive flogged another 33 that was manual in it, manuals are only quicker if you know how 2 change gears right, otherwise if you shift shit, of course ur gonna get beaten. stupid narrow minded bogans lol.

its a well know fact that the auto gts-t is a dog box it just doesnt shift hrad enough however take the trany out of a 300zx (which is the same as the gtst i think) and your GTST will rip out some nice quater times!!!

have you had any work to your trany because ive raced my m8 on numerous occansions and flogged him everytime (both cars pretty stock bar cat backs and CAI)

Do you think that an auto SS ute, with a taller first gear and shorter top gear, would have addressed some of the issues you had regarding the gearing?

And the Cross8 variant would probably have sorted out the traction problems, considering you're not bush bashing.

When it comes to loose surfaces its not that fair to compare a 4WD and a 2WD, or auto and manual since the former is apparently easier for towing - I wonder how a manual GTS-t would do in comparison to a manual SS?

I have a GTECH. If a GTST owner in melb wants to do a test with me then I'll be happy to cater. We can compare 0-100km/h times and post results up. Be it a stock or modded GTST. Throw in a stock GTR if you want to make it more interesting.

i was speaking to a friend last night, he recently bought a VX clubsport(5.7L 255kw) and ran it at calder, its completely stock best he could get was 13.9@100mph

dont know about driver skill whether he is good or not, but you would need a modified gtst to keep up with that. DEAD stock gtsts will struggle to run within 1sec of that.

A lower first gear would have helped, although it really needed a lower diff ratio as well to fix the 5th and 6th gearing problems. Then the fuel economy would have been crap, so its a no win situation.

The Stagea cost me $17K, where can I buy a Cross8 for that?

This thread is "R34 GTR V-spec Skyline VS HSV or FPV", since GTR's are 4WD they also have the same advantage.

auto and manual since the former is apparently easier for towing

That's why I got an auto Stagea.

The Stagea is an auto and I tow a manual GTST, best of both worlds. The GTST is faster on the circuit than the SS and the Stagea tows better. The cost of both of them, and the trailer, was less than the SS.

It's a win win:cheers:

we all know holdens and fords are shit. I watched my boss in his 4.0L V6 2tonne Toyota Prado with 3 of us and all our Nandos for lunch juuuust drag off a 230kW 6sp man. SS commondore owned by a co-worker. he was not impressed with his new SS. what a joke.

rb25

Yea sure he did. There is no way in hell that would happen, unless the person in the SS wasnt trying. That just simply wouldnt happen... Anybody who disagres I invite you to join this conversation...

nah i havnt had work done 2 it, far as i know its a stocker.... i wasnt really comparing manual 2 auto with equal drivers in that comment, i said... that manuals can be quicker only if the driver knows how 2 shift right.... hence my flogging of the manual 33 in my auto one... if the dude knew how 2 shift right, i'd say it woulda been the other way round.

:uh-huh:

Guys so normally for a stock gtst, what's the maximum speeds obtainable on each gear without going all the way to the red line?

1st gear = ??km/h? at what rev?

2nd gear = ??km/h?

3rd gear?

What do you mean without going to redline? These values are at redline 7000 rpm

1st - 60

2nd - 100

3rd - 150

4th - 195

5th - I have got no idea
