Hello,

I just bought a SSBC (old school) second hand and didn't receive the diagrams.

Just wondering 2 things.

By just looking at the solenoid it has 2 outlets/inlets on one side, both look like they connect to the same chamber and are made of plastic. On the other side of the solenoid there is a metal inlet/outlet. I know that it has to be inserted before the wastegate actuator, but my question is which outlet/inlet goes to the side of the actuator and which one connects to the other side?

The second thing is the SSBC controller box has a 'pressure' inlet where you presumably plug in the boost pressure line. I know that with the solenoid it's important to make the lines as short as possible but I was hoping that with the controller unit I could just T my boost control line and use that to have the controller box under the dash. I was also hoping this wouldn't affect the accuracy of my boost gauge. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for any help - the SSBC/DSBC related threads in the tutorial section seem to be empty.

;)

So far I've T'ed the pressure to the controller box from my boost gauge. Hope that's ok.

In my pic I've hooked up the boost pressure from the intercooler to the metal pipe (left hand side in my pic).

The wastegate is plugged into the second pipe (left plastic pipe in my pic) and the last pipe is not plugged in. I'm assuming that's to vent pressure between the solenoid and wastegate. That last pipe remains closed when the solenoid is not receiving power and it is also closed when receiving power. So I assume it's a one way valve of some sort.

Surely someone has done this before... ?

Heh heh yeah.

For future reference incase anyone ever gets this thing...

I have T'ed the pressure signal into the control unit from my boost gauge.

I have (in order of the pipes in my solenoid picture) used the first from the intercooler/bov/manifold (where it would normally go to the wastegate actuator). This is the metal pipe on the solenoid.

Then I have used the middle pipe (the first plastic pipe from the left) to hook into the wastegate actuator. Then I have left the final pipe (the right hand side pipe) open. I assume this is to vent.

I have now got my boost controller doing the following-

OFF - wastegate set pressure of 0.8bar

LO - 0.9 - 1bar

HI - 1.0 - 1.1bar

I haven't pushed the HI up to 1.2 because I'm scared of blowing my engine up till I get it on the dyno, but these will serve as my base settings. They were achieved by turning the LO knob approximately 40degrees right and the HI knob dead centred in the middle.

The gain, I believe was on 2 or 3. I will play with this on the dyno to try to get more response but so far it seems to hit the boost there earlier and stay there even at redline with no spiking or pressure off.

Good shit I like it - if a mod wants to move this into the tutorial section please do and get rid of the other 2 SSBC threads in there that have nothing more than one post that is the question.

Thanks CEF-11E for your help planning it out yesterday!! O_o
