Hiya guys, it’s been an expensive long weekend. I've had my 33 for 5 years now and this is the first time I’ve been defected - Lucky yes.

Defects are as follows:

Carbon Fibre Bonnet

Too Low

Too Loud

Blow off valve not connected to stock engine pipe

Insecure Air POD

Pillar gauges

The cops were great and we had about a 45 minute chat about the car. I've got a little over a month to get everything fixed at the local police station.

I've currently got TEIN HA Coilovers installing without the helper springs - Will I be able to adjust the height enough to get it legal? It's going to be a pain reinstalling the helper springs.

The only other thing is the exhaust - 4 1/2 " catback with an angled exhaust. Will this need to go back to stock to pass the DB test?

I've still got the original bonnet - already secured the POD and removed the Pillar gauges.

Bugger hey, 5 years and no defects is good going though :D

At least they got you for actual defects, not trivial things like an empty washer bottle and stuff.

Good luck getting them fixed.

Question with your gauges though, were they in a holder up the a pillar? Did you have 1 or 2.

what does the form say ?

on the front it should have a cross on one of the following

1 ) cease using the vehicle after _____am/pm pm __/__/__ until replacements, repairs or alterations set out below have been carried out.

2) produce the vehicle for a full Certificate of Inspection.Safty Certificate inspection at an approved inspection station.

3 ) produce the vehicle for further inspection of the defects set out below at/to (what ever the copa writes mine have said Goldcoast traffic Branch coomera) at/by __/__/__ or by appointment.

which one of those have been selcted ?

then obove all that if should say Defect Classification

Self Clearance [ ]

Minor [ ]

Major [ ]

Major (dangerous - label affixed) [ ]

those options relate to info on the other side of the notice and explain what u have to do to get it all sorted out.

Melv

I received one defect notice with all the defect listings & two seperate fines - one for the bonnet and the other for Driving Defective Vehicle.

Produce the vehicle for a full Certificate of Inspection/Safety Certificate inspection at an approved inspection station.

and

produce the vehicle for further inspection of the defects set out below at/to ( Palm Beach) at/by __/__/__ or by appointment.

It's also a Minor Defect Classification.

Just the 1 - nice cop.

lucky very lucky! i just got done the other weekend for an illegal uturn at traffic lights and that cost me 2 points. + $60. i had a green arrow aswell. so its not like i was doing it dangerously. its gotta make you wonder how they work out the points system. 2 points for what i did is rediculous!!!!!

Wasn't down the esplenade was it?

Sunday afternoon (and probably a lot of other times over the weekend).. 2 cop setups about 300m apart, doing inspections on pretty much any car that looked half modified.. Seemed a bit extreme to me to have two lots doing it so close together. Somehow I managed to avoid them though, lol..

End of the financial year is rapidly approaching - careful folks :)

I got defected for noise and i had a 3" turbo back system (with cat) rated at 98db. To get me down to 90dB (the limit), the exhaust place put in a hotdog resonator and silencer for the cannon. I'd say for the 4.5", u might need another muffler squeezed in. As for the sound test, I had trouble finding places in Brisbane who could do it (cos ppl had their machines being repaired) but if u need to come all the way to Brisbane, Valley Exhausts near RBH do the dB test for $55.

Just the 1 - nice cop.

a friend of mine got booked for doing 28 in a 40 zone, he was going slow because the truck infront of him was droping crap off the back as it drove and he wanted to keep a distance, the truck wasnt even going 40 too.

i think the cop was just picking on him for his line.

Hopefully i can just fit a Silencer to the exhaust - The Officer said the police station will handle the DB test.

With the Coilover Suspension - I should easily be able to get it to a legal height without fitting the Helper Springs - Thankgod.

" End of the financial year is rapidly approaching - careful folks " - Pricks !!!

After having just been through this and doing a truckload of research

Carbon Fibre Bonnet - Illegal and there is no mod plate u can get nothing.

Too Low - Raise it, Coilovers are illegal as they do not meet ADR's

Too Loud - Take it to an exhaust shop that can do Db readings and get it made quiet along with a form to say that its quiet.

Blow off valve not connected to stock engine pipe - Blow off valves are not illegal regardless of where they are connected as long as it still meets exhaust emiisions.

Insecure Air POD - This i was told was by a transport officer is a bullshit fine, there is no ADR or rule for it.

Pillar gauges - Was also told by the transport officer that they are legal as long as they are not lcd displays and does not hugely decrease vision.

I also have the light vehicle modifications hand book, not the pamphlet the big thing u buy from the government, and all the ADR's to back up what i have just told you.

Yeah, i'm taking my car in with the coilovers at a legal height.

Should i worry about the BOV ? Its listed on the defect - i've got the right kind of BOV to connect to the stock pipe. might just get a little extension just incase.

What is the legal height again? I have Tein HA and there is a limit in which you can raise at the front. I put it at the max height but the front bar is still only 9cm off the ground.

Out of interest what if the car was complied with items such as the CF bonnet, and say coilovers? (15 year rule, or pre RAWS?)

Dave,

Nothing against you here... But a few times i've seen you post regarding being 'invincible' from defects because the mods were 'on your car when it was complianced, so therefore its all legal'

I think thats a bit of blind hope there and really wouldnt hold any weight at all... If a mods illegal its illegal and they'll get you for it. After all whose to say that certain mods werent put on AFTER it was complied... just food for thought

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
