Does dyno tuning do anything for the car or just tell you the output of the vehicle?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just wondering I'm looking at buying a turbo SR20DET GTiR car and the guy I'm buying it from said it could do with a dyno tune...! Which to me means there is problems with it, but he assures me there is nothing wrong with it, he did mention it runs a little rough at start if not started for a while i.e a week or so.

Am I waisting my money getting it dyno tuned?

What sort of price is fair for a "Dyno Tune"

Also it's front wheel drive so do i need to put it on a 4 wheel dyno as I know there no 4 wheel dyno's in Cairns only 2 wheel and I'm presuming they are only RW capable.

Any advice appreciated..!

i always thought GTIR are 4WD ? and not front wheel drive hence they branded "baby godzilla"...Dyno tune can vary.. it could just be the air fuel ratio leaning or running too rich or timing etc. dyno computers/tuner can determine what needs tuning.

it could cost a fair bit.. i'd say roughly $90/hr ? not too sure.

gtir's are 4wd and must go on a 4wd dyno.

There are Dyno power runs to see air fuel ratios and power

or

Dyno tuning, where the tuner tunes your aftermarket ecu or ROM ecu.. bout $100 or something an hour yeh

Yeah man it's a good idea to get it dyno'ed just to check the Air Fuel Ratio (AFR)s so you know it's boosting along ok and providing enough fuel to the engine when it needs it.

The dyno is a tuning tool, so it can tell you some things about your car such as AFR and power etc.

If someone is tuning your car (say with an aftermarket computer or a ECU re-chip) then they can tune it while using the dyno as the tool to see what the car is doing hence "dyno tune".

Good luck.
