Hi gang,

Wondering if anyone's experienced the same problem that I'm having. The gist of it is that every time I turn my ignition to the "ON" position, I'm hearing a clicking sound (like two bits of plastic hitting together). It seems to be coming from behind the centre air vents (listening closely to it, it sounded like a solenoid or something that have springs or moving parts). Anyway, the sound stops after a minute or so. While it doesn't affect the performance of the car, and I know that it's not serious, I still would like to get to the bottom of it. Yesterday (monday) I removed the plastic section around the centre consoles of the dash and checked if it could have been some loose wire making the sound but thatwasn't the source of the sound. I haven't got the nerve to remove the whole dash to find out whats making the sound. Any help with a solution, or some tips on removal of the whole dash would be helpful. BTW, the sound seem to be coming from behind the firewall (ie, it's not in the engine bay).

Cheers,

J

Hey dude, my R33 has the same problem and it is actualy comming from the air conditioner motar. Mine has had the problem on and off for 4 years now comming and going randomly. It has not affected the climate controll in anyway it's just been an anoying sound for the first minute or so when you start the car. I asked a mech about it and he said that it would cost $350 for a new motar. Since it doesnt affect it in anyway I have just left it. I've never had a second opinion so he might just be trying to rip me off. Might be worth looking into. He said it was something catching on a fan inside the motar that makes the clicking noise.

Its actually only a $160 part from nissan - an actuator that opens/closes a vent. But you have to pull your whole dash out to get to it, it sits on top of the heater box. I've replaced mine.

Allow 2-4 hours to pull out dash and replace the part and replace dash if you want to do it.

mate my sky does the same thing. comes and goes for the past 18mths. as ferni says above its just a matter of being bothered with the dash or putting up with the click.

i know of at least another two guys that have had the same problem.

I c..I c....well, thanks 4 all the feedbacks guys...much appreciated.

If it's a common thing, I think I might just leave it. As a number of you have already pointed out, it's more of an annoyance than a performance issue. The thing is, I'm looking to sell my car..( and i'm hearing "oh goshhh...wtf 4..etc... :D "..i know I know...anyway, I just want a quick sales coz i'm thinking of going oversea, and the only thing wrong with the car is that noise, so I was hoping to fix it up, so that prospective buyers will have less things 2 nit pick ova...I've already done the 100K service..so that's one less hassle outa the way. Once again, thanks for the feedbacks guys...

Cheers,

J

Just dont turn the climate control on when you're selling it. sorted :) I only just bought my skyline and have the exact same thing going on. Or just be straight up and tell em it's a common prob. I have this and my heater not working - turns out that's a common problem too!

    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
