Ok guys,

Not trying to preach anything in this section at all, but since its a VIC section, i thought i would post it in here.

Being a Muslim, i know that a lot of non-muslims have misconceptions about Islam:

Are we terrorists?

Do we oppress our women?

Do we want to kill everyone that is not a muslim?

The list goes on and on :stupid:

For those interested, there is an upcoming Lecture series in Melbourne.

Lecture will be given by a former Christian preacher from Texas. His website is www.islamtomorrow.com

Purpose of this series, is to give non-muslims a better understanding of Islam, and if it was the harsh religion as portrayed in the media, then why are so many people entering it?

Attached is a poster of the lecture series. First night will be held at Dallas Brooks Hall, and second night at Melbourne University.

Night 1 July 8: Priests and Preachers entering Islam - WHY?

Night 2 July 9: Who is going to Paradise?

For more information, contact IISNA - www.iisna.com (details of lecture series will be uploaded in the next day or 2 God willing).

PS: Lecture will be broadcasted LIVE on Paltalk (www.paltalk.com)

Interesting post Husnu (sorry can't remember exact spelling as you have changed your name!)

This is not a dig or anything even similar at your religion, just a couple of questions as I am genuinely interested to see what a follower can explain.

Will those lectures explain where the misconceptions have arisen from as I dont know other than the terriorists one?

Have to word this one carefully as again no offence is intended at all.

If I go into a shop wearing a hoodie on my own I get watched (fair enough as statistics speak). If I go out with my girlfriend into a designer shop, we sometimes get watched (again, young couple get watched closely)

As I know where the terrorist misconception comes from and it is exactly that, a misconception. There are bad people in every religion.

I recently flew into Melbourne from Singapore with several Indian passengers (no problems there), however I am an appalling flyer at the best of times for nerves (not terrorist related up until this flight as I have had it for years). One passenger in particular decided to stand at the exit door (normal for excercise) but hold on to the handle and switch his focus between the flight path TV, the manual overide setting and the door handle. He would stand there for blocks of 20mins roughly at a time. This made me and a lot of other passengers around us extremely nervous due to his appearance (related back to me wearing a hoodie, stereotypical).

Do you think in the current climate he should have had a bit more consideration for his fellow passengers? As said earlier this is in no way a dig but interested to see if you have had to make any changes in recent years or whether you would have been comfortable with being a fellow passenger?

Islam, is that the religion where your not allowed to eat  bacon ?

That'd be Judiasm...

I was born a snake handler, and I'll die a snake handler ;)

-that being said, good luck to anyone that attends, might be very informative for you :stupid:

my best friend and family are all muselim (theyre malaysian and italian) and having known them for many many years i know how stupid that misconception can be. they never try and push it on me or even speak much to me about it as they know i dont believe in any religion and find religion to be quite rediculous.

however i feel people should be able to believe in whatever they want... and i respect peoples wishes so long as they respect mine. Every muselim family i have met has been fantastic... theyre all welcoming and all very generous and dont make you feel uncomfortable unlike a lot of catholic and christian families ive encountered lol

but anyway... ignore the morons who cant see past their nose and what they think... its their problem.

Saff_cossie,

When you said Indian, and if he did have a turban on his head - most likely he would have been a Sikh (not a muslim), regardless what he was (muslim or not) - you are right, its common sense to have consideration to fellow passengers.

I personally, try to be a devout Muslim. I have never changed my ways for anyone, and those who know me, respect me for who i am. As a Muslim, i do not drink (alcohol), smoke, swear, lie, cheat or decieve others. Now this may sound corny, but regardless of being a muslim or not, these characteristics should be in everyone - no offense to those who drink, smoke, swear and lie and cheat :stupid:

But unfortunately the misconceptions about Muslims and Islam is always in the media, and this tends to stick to the common individuals mind.

I dont know how the speaker will deliver his talk, and what area's he will cover. All i know is he is from Texas and has George Bush's accent ;)

It will be an interesting evening, and would be good if non-muslims attend. Will give you a clearer understanding of Islam (not muslims). As you know, you cannot judge a religion according to its followers. There are muslims out there who do the wrong thing and things are quickly pointed to Islam. Just like there are christians, jews, buddhists, hindu's etc who do wrong things - but does not mean this is what their religion teaches them.

Regards,

Husnu.

no offense to those who drink, smoke, swear and lie and cheat ;)

None Taken :stupid: j/k

Saff, I know what you mean about the plane, I think anybody standing by the door release would attract attention these days.

I know a few muslims... his old man went to iraq during the golf war to fight for iraq he is now "missing"

but then again i know a muslim guy whos been a good friend of mine for a while now..

U get both farked up ones and good ones .. same with every religen and race i guess.

Whats wrong with the first example?

Yes Islam forbids Pork.  But if you want me to get into nitty gritty details, so does Judaism and Christianity (its in the bible) :)

Actually, the new testament of the bible says that it is not what goes in the mouth of man that makes him unclean but the words that come out....

What this means is that we can eat anything we like because the body will dispose of it but it is the harmful things we say or harmful way we act that makes us "unclean".

No offence to Islam here but I think the Koran is written based on the old testament of the bible, not the other way around...bible came first not vice versa but I understand that people can interpret readings anyway they want.

Also, you mention that many people have converted to Islam but what about those who have converted from Islam??? It's easy to learn about Islam in this country and I'll tell you why....If I was to go and preach about any other religion in a Muslim country, it would never be allowed. We as Australian's have very high tolerance and respect for other peoples religion and we allow schools and places of worship of these religions to be setup and operate and so it is easy for people to learn about them. Try opening up a church or Hindu Temple in Saudi Arabia for example and see the consequence. I'm not saying that Islam commands its followers to stop the building of places of worship or schools but where does this level of fanaticalism come from? Is there any tolerance, respect and freedom of choice from these people? If so I shouldn't have an issue openly preaching any religion in some of these countries.

Sorry about the long post and please understand there is no offence aimed at Islam...just voicing the perception some fanatics give out about the religion.

He is a citizen of australia. not iraq. he went over there to fight for his religion.

He went to go fight againts his own coutry and there allies.. makes u wonder if trouble ever broke out here .. who would he take arms up against.. australians.. or muslim cause?

If it was up to me i woudl deport his whole family back to iraq.... obvioously they dont care much about australia so they should be ****ed off.

can u honestly tell me what he did was rite????

my family is fropm yugoslavia ( serbia ).. when there war broke out. did u see all my family running back??? no..

we live in australia.. we have our own country now..

LOL...out of interest is the average devout muslim offended by this sort of behaviour?...edit...drinking and smokign that is, cheating etc etc is a given

    • Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4
    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
    • To be fair - you see the same thing for every clutch. There's always someone making an installation error.
