Does anyone have a list of the roadworthy requirements in QLD/ know where to get it (ie website, QT etc)?

I live in the sticks and want to have as many of my bases covered before I head 200k's to the nearest decent roadworthy agent. and have the least defectability possible!

thats a hard one.. there is nowhere you can get the definitive list I don't think. There must be a book the mechanics use.

In my experience its no different to the other states really.. the usual things such as tyres, wipers, bushes, boots, suspension, brakes, window squirters, lights/indicators are all checked. Exhaust is meant to be under 90db.. lowest point of the car can't be less than 10cm.. etc

typical of the QLD government.... cant make it easy to do anything! I just dont want my car hung up for anylonger than usual cause of somethin stupid like, "well you have *insert stupidly complex for roadworthy, expensive and time consuming part here* wrong"

Gods sake, I even have to travel 60k's to get some wiper blades! I love it here...

I'll call the local guy and see if he'll help me out. Cheers guys.

If anyone can think of anything else just post it here :P

Yes, lowest part of the car is explisedly 10cm... and also, make sure your rims dont stick out from the line of the guards, this is also not good :(

there is no list available to the public...

You can actually download one from the QT website. I have a full copy of the current one.

I think the list of what will fail your car depends on where you go. I took mine to RACQ and they picked on my care severely, and the only mod it has is a 3 inch 'quiet' exhaust. Exhaust passed without any problems. They picked on my aircon becasuse it didnt demist -they couldnt figure it out!, even tho I used it car to get to test.

Minor stuff they picked on.

No oil leaks at all, this means any oil that you spilt in oil changes or has crept down the block over 15 yr needs to be gone!

bonnet stay clip

number plates slightly bent to fit into bumpers - definite no-no with racq, got new plates and just packed out the front one with a couple of bushes

basically everything the car comes with has to work!

Man that's pathetic. they have to check the essentials ONLY. Is it safe? yeah. Is it legal? yeah. That's it. most garages use it as an excuse to extort more money from you.

The guy i took it to, didn't even notice the reverse lights dont work! lol that's taking things a bit far tho. as for oil, if there's a drop waiting to drip, then yeah I agree, it needs to be fixed. but to expect a 15 year (5 year even) old car, not to have any oil residue on the block? give me a break. When they're that tight, people start doing bodgies to get their car thru (ie cleaning down engine etc.)

The fella that did mine also said that he is bit tighter on people selling their cars, than people buying them.

They dont even need to look at the damn aircon system!

was planning to sell it, and thought going to the strictest place would show how good car was.

having 2nd thoughts yet again so will see how I go. just trying to resist the temptation to offload serious $$ on the car or get a more family oriented car as it is getting a little cramped in the back with 2 baby seats in there...
