OK. Another Gearbox question,

MY current box 2nd gear sync is getting a bit, How wouldi say "Rough" And doesnt improve that well when fully warmed up.

So i see Rb20det gearbox's are cheep and seem to use the same Splines ect for the factory l20et Clutch, In my case a R63n.

The Q's are. What would i need to know on fitting this, I can run on the Esumption that the L20et gear box will bolt up to a Rb20det Bellhosing which would mean a Rb20det gearbox will do it vise versa. Are the mounts the same, And would i need to use ea Rb driveshaft ?

EDit:: OMg my spelling sucks :sadam:

i have change over my car from l series engine and box to rb series.

now the mounts should be the same, gear box spline is the same..... ( was able to use the same tail shaft on mine), need to check to see if you have room at the top on the box near the shifter. the l series box is egg hspped cross section ( narrow at top), while the rb series box is ver large and square( i had to stretch my trans tunnel with a hydraulic porta pack). the only thing that may be an issue is that the bell housing will probley be different. but i have heard there is adaptor bell housings that you can buy and change over ya self. the slave cylinder for the clutch is the same ( get the rb one if ya can, then seem to look stronger)

i hope that helps.........

Pete.

OK. Another Gearbox question,

you have to swap the bellhousings on the gearbox. they are interchangable.

l box is a 71b

rb is 71c prefix

just make sure the countershaft bearings is the same size.(the alloy bearing cover that the thrust bearing sits on) threr is a big one or a small one. if not youl have to swap it over.

use the same circlips and shims that are of the rb gearbox(gear height adjustment) they are all diferant thicknesses.

the tailshaft will be ok. the crossmeber may need mods

(this is if it is the standard length box; not the short one in 2.4e r30s

hope that helps.

A much cheaper easier option would be to repair your own box , same syncro rings as Bluebird/240K etc or get an MR30 Skyline box in good condition and bolt it in . RB71C gearboxes take a fair bit of expense and work to fit , much more than removing and repairing your own .

Ah, i see. how can i improve my Gearbox without doing much, I guess i can use Wyns gearoil aditive. But i dont know if it will help Every one who has drivin my car agree's the gear box is very "industrial" To use.

The question is, Where can i find these parts in NZ ?. I havnt come across any Supplers, and i work at repco :D
