Right, so three of my sensors are faulty, which I am going to check today

Outside temp sensor

Sunlight load sensor

PBR

What the Fark is a PBR? anyone?

I have also found that the heater element wasn't the only reason my heater wasn't working - the diverter flap that sends air to the heater is also not working - hopefully it is related to the faulty sensors, and hopefully the faulty sensors are just disconnected or something!

The sunlight load sensor may not be faulty. Even parking under a tree on a bright summer day can still produce a "faulty" sunlight load sensor. Shine a bright torch on it while in diagnostic mode to confirm if it's faulty.

The PBR has been covered previously - do a search (from a while ago, maybe 12 months or more).

The sunlight sensor is on the dash. Its tucked in all the way in the left corner.

The outside temp one is at the front, around the horn somwhere.

PBR - not sure.

I have some problems with the heater too. I cant change the temparature, it's stuck on hot.

Now when you mentioned it, it must be that diverter flap.

Where is it actually located? How hard is it to fix it?

The reason I asked about fuses is that if a fuse blows you can get erroneous sensor warnings. Double check all the fuses (there are three for the aircon IIRC), and if you have found one has blown obviously replace. My guess if it blows again is that you're suffering from the same problem I am: worn out windings on the aircon compressor magnetic clutch.

Success! Thanks blind elk, and to the R32 gtr manual i found on the forum... For some wierd (and bloody annoying) reason if you search for pbr, you wont get any results....

If PBR comes up, it means the the servo that actuates the heat/cool diverter door hasn't reached the desired opening. So my suspicions were correct, it was related.

You can see the servo quite easily by looking in towards the heater from the drivers side. Instead of pulling it apart, which i was planning to do as the guy in that thread had had success with, I pretty much accidentally got it working by just pushing on the lever one way and the other to see if it would move... and it did!!! hooray!!! I now have climate control! It must have just jammed up from lack of use, and all it needed was a bit of coaxing. i then adjusted the temp from high to low and lubricated all the moving parts till i was satisfied with it's operation. It might pay to remove the diverter flap actuator bar from the servo while playing with this, just to make things a bit easier. I ended up pulling the whole thing out and giving it a good hit with lube everywhere i could.

The Pbr fault comes up still, but as it turns out, to satisfy the self diagnosis, the flap has to be opened at 40%. so if you can still get hot and cold, dont stress about seeing the fault. another little thing to know, if you get a minus sign in front of any of your numbers ie -26 , that indicates a short, (or overload) which now that I know that, would also point to a stuck servo.

My sunlight sensor fault cleared as soon as i... well... put it in sunlight :)

So now my only problem is the ambient air temp sensor. Putting a multimeter across it, it works fine, but the fault still comes up. But i'm not that phased, as i dont think it has that big of a bearing on the climate control operation.

So now I'm one happy, warm, camper!

Bumpy, need some help.

On my r33 i go to diagnostics and i have a stable 2, and a flashing 5. I know this is the Light sensor on the dash. The thing is that even though i have my aircon on set on 18deg it blows really hot air. I also have a nissan Pathfinder, it also gives the same result, a stable 2 and a flashing 5. But the climate control works perfect on the pathfinder.

I thought i heard people saying that 20 was normal... im kind of confused...

Hmmm, now all of a sudden its only blowing cold air. Its like deciding by itself whether to use the aircon or heater...

Godzilla: Turn on your ignition, within the first 10seconds, hold the off button on your Climate control (for 5 seconds), and you will see it enter diagnostic mode.

has anyone had any luck? i thought mine was working, but my problem is such that it wont open unless i put it on FH then bring it back down, then after i turn the heater off hot air will continue to come out of the dash, unless i put it on FC then turn it off, so my problem is such that the arms dont return to the closed position after the AC has been turned off

pull the thing apart mate, that's what I did and the PBR "fingers" were partially fused to the board. you'll need to pull the circuit board right out to see the actual PBR. Sounds like you have the same problem as I did. I'm buying another actuator as we speak... It's a used one so i just hope it's not rooted too... will be pulling it apart and lubing it as soon as i get it!

Nah mate, inside the air diverter flap actuator, the one you can see if you look in under the dash toward the heater from the drivers side. looks like this - pull it right apart and you'll find the PBR on the underside of the circuit board. The PBR is a position sensor- Potentio ballast resistor - works like a volume knob in a fashion. it senses the position of the plastic arm you see in the pic, based on the resistance it sees, which varies between low and high depending on which end of the circuit the pickup is on. Sorry if I'm being patronisingly descriptive, just tryin to paint a picture for ya :D I didn't have a clue what it looked like until i saw it!

the box is mounted on a bracket and you'll see that it is connected to a metal bar running in under the heater system. The other end is attached to the air diverter flap.

When you pull it apart you'll need to pull that arm off - I broke the clip that holds it in, but I dont think it really matters (especially not now lol), undo two screws in the bottom and pry it apart carefully. pull the gears out, and the board inside has two screws from memory, undo them, and carefully pry it out. look at the underside and you'll see the PBR.
