Bathurst, RB30 bottom end? For RB26

Hey guys,

Well I've think I've matured as a driver enough now to begin modifying my GTR, turbos, engine, intake. A couple of question about bottom ends?

I have been offered a bottom end that apparently is from one of those cars that used to race at Bathurst.....

Firstly.......is that sort of thing legal? What are the rules in relation to modifying a cars bottom end?

Secondly.......cost, how much should it cost? I have no idea. HOw can you verify that it is indeed one of those bottom ends?

Thirdly.....Would it be wise to purchase if it genuinely a bathurst bottom end?

Now alternatively, my performance mechanic suggested that I use a RB30 bottom end.....apparently that's illegal, but he said no one could find out unless they open the engine, as he said he would 'stamp' RB26 numbers on it? Whats goin on here? Anyone experimented with RB30 internals before?

Do a search for RB30 details. There are plenty of ticks needed to fit on to a GTR, they are a 2wd block after all.

Bathurst RB26, N1 block, standard crank, forged rods (usually Carrillo) and forged pistons, so nothing special. They ran an external oil pump, so it may not have an internal pump. That's a pain on a road car. The engine is ~12 years old, the chances of it having its original components is pretty slim.

hmm dont know the rules for melbourne.. but rb26/30's arent illegal as far as i know

how ever 'restamping' a engine number or wat not.. is illegal

dont see why using an ex race block/bottom end would be illegal.. as i know of a A9X running a race prepped engine on the street.. (hardly gets driven cause its immaculate)

one thing to be carefull of is.. very that is it a genuine race prepped block maybe get the engine number and go down to holden and see if they can find any info on the block to see weather it really is genuine or not

When you buy a new engine block from Nissan/Holden it comes unstamped ie; no engine number. The idea being that you are buyinga new block to replace the old one which is broken. So you stamp the old block's engine number on the new block.

didnt know that sydney kid.. so you do learn something new everyday
