This thread is a continuation of the 'sau circuit times' I hijacked with dutton banter, it can be found here-

Andrew mate those lotus's are fantastic to drive, I'd love to do a rally in one. Should be good with more skylines popping up in these rally's.

I'm looking forward to this one, I loved some of the stages last year, especially the one where the vectra smashed into the pole . That was almost a dirt rally stage!

Mark and Russel I trust everything is almost ready, if not get cracking boys I'll have no excuses Oh and we'll see you in 4 weeks, and if anyone else wants to pop out and say g'day by all means come along, I'll be racing my Aussie racing car and a lotus elise at QLD raceway 22-24 July with the V8's.

See you all there

hahah and so the talking begins....its a damn shame you have the record behind you :)

Better watch out in Vic, for some reason related to the proximity to the south pole, GTRs are quicker in Vic than in any other Australian state....

Yeah Simmo Dutton is going to be awesome this year.

As perviously mentioned we have a bit of a group going this year. I presume you will be in the top 40 (numbers wise) so we probably won't see you much over the weekend but the cars coming along in our group should be sweet. Got word the Ice Supra is joining us now too to add to our little gang. (575rwkw's!)

But you still haven't answered - has the EVO changed at all since last year or is it basically the same car? It was stupid fast last year - especically on that final day when you must have been the only bloke with-out a hangover cause you slaughtered everyone. lol

Personally my car will have more power (up to 330 from 250 last year), better suspension, better brakes, modified attessa system and of coarse I will have 12 months more experience at driving the car. Will all mean Jack if I bust the car again of coarse. But we have another "GTR Support Veichle" and this one is a lot better than the back-up one from last year. lol.

All the guys coming with me (2 GTR's, 1 Supra and 1 STi RA) are currently all slightly faster than me at the track but none of them have done anything other than circuit before so it's going to be fun. Basically all of us run Sandown between 1.20-1.22 if that means anything.

But despite all that talk I know we are still going to struggle to catch you boys and the Fullers. But god damn we are going to have some fun trying. Either way I think the Porsche boys are going to be even more up-set this year than usual.

I have set up a day at DECA this weekend and will basically run a bunch of the events from last year so will get the stop watch out and see what times we run compared to the times run last year at Dutton. Then I'll have a better feel for how close we can get to you! I'll also see if they have replaced the control box for the traffic lights yet!

HAH!! Busted Snowie. I knew DECA was just a sycophantic attempt to practice for Dutton.

That's right mate. I'm the president. I have the power. And I'm not afraid to abuse it!

:sadam:

Your all lucky I even invited you all along to join me. I was slightly tempted to use the club money to hire the venue out for some solo practise.

:innocent:

But all this talking it up and practise is going to be for naught when I run through the stop gate in the 2nd event like I did last year to kill off any hopes of doing well! lol. Then it will be time to do what I excelled in last years event - drinking. And with the SAU Cheer-squad up there this year thats going to be an easy thing to do!

Only bloke without a hangover? Mate you don't know me very well obviously. I'll be having a few don't worry about that!!

The Evo is pretty in very similar spec, apart from....

Ralliart ECU, not sure if it had it then, makes minimal difference if you ask me.

Suspension is alot better, mainly in the tuning.

Exhaust manifold, same again not sure how much difference that makes.

Its alot lighter, just by taking unwanted weight out.

Basically the car is very similar, but alot easier to drive.

Its no power house compared to your Skylines, I think I gave a 12.2 a nudge at WSID on the NSW rally, thats with no reaction time though. From memory last year I did 12.3's, so yeah its not alot quicker.

Also guys on another note I'm chasing sponsorship for my circuit racing in the Aussie Racer and the Lotus, if anyones after or knows anyone whos looking for great exposure (TV, print etc) for their company etc let me know.

Cheers

"Can the mighty GTR topple the Evo in the 2005 Vic Dutton Rally??"

of course it can!! :)

car is coming along simmo, it will be tight though to try and get a test day!

it sounds like it will be very competitive in vic!

the car and i need to go on a diet, get some suspension and some driving time to be continually competitive.

see you guys in vic soon! and see ya up here simmo

cheers russ

Russ, saw the footage yesterday (and recorded to dvd). Nice lose at wakefield. That's a great green finish on the GTR.

We had a great day at DECA practicing for Dutton. I might even take a chop if I can bring the wife around and there are places left. Hopefully we won't look as stupid as the silver GTR33 owner on the dutton NSW footage.

Ok - NOW I'm pumped.

Ran at DECA on the weekend. Did a lot of skidpan practise and the car is feeling great.

Set-up the motokhana the same as for Dutton 04 (Event 07 and 10)

Best times on the weekend for all the 05 Dutton Boys competing (we had 3 runs each at it)

Me - 40.1

Chris (My co-driver) - 39.6

Blaise (STi RA) - 40.8

Tony (GTR) - 45.7

Eddie (GTR) - 42.3

Best time from Dutton 04 - 42.1 (That pesky EVO 3)

Can't be sure obviously that everything was 100% the same but feeling good right now that we will have a decent package. Just stocking up now with some Porsche and EVO stickers with big crosses on them so we can put them on the car for every "kill" during the event.

:(

Didn't see him. They were too busy wasting their half hour on (mostly) crap.

couldnt agree more!! that was absolutely crap footage!

yeah that was me with that loose! HEHE but they said it was mark my other driver.(he wasnt happy)

they also said the fastest time of the rally at w.s.i.d was 11.9 set by us, try 10.8 fools.

do you guys think it might be a wet rally down their?? is it wet this time of year.

hope they have better footage of victorian rally, but i doubt it.

seeya russ

p.s wish i could get out for some practice but cars in a million pieces!! :)

Dutton footage is traditionally crap.

You'd think that maybe they would say show the fastest runs on each of the events or at least show a COUPLE of full runs of events so people can see what it's all about.

But no they like to just show 3s clips of cars moving doing possibly ANYTHING. The only people who know exactly what was happening is the person in the car. But general viewers have no idea.

Anyways....

As for a wet event - obviously it's Winter so it is possible. However Shepparton is not a wet area and it's usually dry. HOWEVER - its damn damn damn cold. It was 2deg when we started on Saturday. I think in one way this does benifit cars 1-39 because they start the Friday at Shep airport which as Simmo can attest to has lose stones everywhere and never has any grip. At DECA the skidpan is like polished concrete and we definitely found there was more grip as the day warmed up than when it was first thing in the morning.

If it is wet then the skidpan will be tough. We wet it for some fun at the end of the day and there was NO grip. My car would spin at the slightest of movement. One guy even said he was trying to drive straight and the car spun on him still.

But thats only 1 (well technically 2) events. I don't see too many others being that effected by rain. Winton is ok as a track in the wet and as mentioned things like Shep airport, and the other events at DECA have a lot of lose stones so they dont become that different in wet. We had a breif shower last year when we were at the airport and I don't think there was any noticable difference in times. But either way it will be fun.

And Russ - I will see if I can post up some footage we took on the weekend from the DECA skidpan doing the event that was run in 04 so you get an idea of the layout. Also we did a 2nd one which was a copy of the pattern done on the last day at Essondon.
