Hey guys

I dont know if anyone can help me, but im getting a really annoying noise coming from the rear. It shits me to death :)

Whats happening -> anytime i go over a bump, ill get a noise from the rear. Now its not a squeak. Its more of a 'gas' noise. You know how you drive normally and you get a 'gas' noise coming from the shock as it goes up/down ? Thats what im getting and its fairly loud.

I took it in with my mechanic quickly and they said it wasnt the suspension. Possibly a bush or something, but they would have to check

Im just wondering whether someone has the same symptoms as this

Cheers ;)

Tom

Shock absorbers don't make squeaking noises, they just leak fluid and sag. If the shocks were making the noise, you would notice a very substantial lose in height and response in one of your shocks. Bushes and ball joints make squeaking noises. If thats the case I wish you the best of luck trying to find out which one it is coming from because there definately not easy to diagnose. I would recommend you change all the bushes and ball joints to acelethane (is that how its spelt???) bushes as a solution to your problem and a performance upgrade. However this upgrade also transmits a lot more road noise into the car but gives the car a more firm feel. So it really wouldn't be a solution to your problem then I guess...

I think I should stop talking now....

Well ive really only noticed it as a 'gassy noise' since i removed the rear seats and the parcel shelf ?

I know my parcel shelf is being squeaky, but at the same time, eh :S

Ill give it a go in sound dampening the parcel shelf, and if theres anything more, then its my bushes and i'll have to get em replaced

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
