SKY031
Before getting a limo tint done, have a think about it. If you get pulled over with tint too dark, what will happen? Do you think that you will be allowed to continue driving the car as it is? I don't think so. You will have to a) remove the tint or B) replace all the windows. Both of which are pretty crappy options. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/78015-should-i-or-shouldnt-i/#findComment-1425995 Share on other sites
SKYL9
they can only test the windows that go up and down yeah? so if you get pulled over whats wrong with putting the driver's and pass's windows down? you have to drop them to talk to the cops anways.. never heard of any1 getting done for tint b4 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/78015-should-i-or-shouldnt-i/#findComment-1426029 Share on other sites
sammus
legal tint: it looked a bit diff in the two shots i took, so here's both; one with ever so beautiful me... the more of an acute angle you look at it from, the darker it looks... but if you look from it side on, it's really light. if i were to do it on another car, i'd get darker than legal. NZM.031
mine is 20% 3M scotch tint, its guaranteed for life. its fairly dark, noone can see in, i wouldnt want it any darker. sure it looks good, but any darker, its unpractical. at night, i cant see shit out the windows. i cant see out the back window, i dont know whether im looking at the wing or behind it, i have to drive with the windows down at night because its too unsafe. its just so dark at night. your choice......but im just letting you know....darkness is not your friend. cheers Linton Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/78015-should-i-or-shouldnt-i/#findComment-1426112 Share on other sites
sewid
Pics of my old GTSt with 20% tints. If your car was built before 1994 then you can claim the tints were installed in 1993 or early 1994 and they are therefore exempt from the laws pertaining to window tints (in NSW anyway) and can thus put any % tint on. http://www.sewid.org/mycar/ECR33/ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/78015-should-i-or-shouldnt-i/#findComment-1426125 Share on other sites
krush
ill second that dark tints arent good for night time. although i only have the rear quarter windows tinted (as it came from overseas), its something really, really dark and i swear i cant even see in them. then when night time comes, i cant even see out. backing out of a driveway i have to wind the window down and stick my head out to see if theres anything out there.. i could only image the dramas to be had if all the windows were as dark as the quarter ones are. shaun. yaf28f
Sorry to bring this up again. I'm about to get my car tinted with legal tint. But can anyone recommend a good film and where to get it done in sydney? I thought there was some 3m security tint to protect from smash and grabs but apparently I was wrong. I had Solartint done on my FTO but after 3-4 years it started to have bubbles. Don't know if it was just the installer or the Tint but I'm keen to try something else (Also they stuck 3 SolarTint stickers over my car ) Any info would be apprieciated. thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/78015-should-i-or-shouldnt-i/#findComment-1450349 Share on other sites

Smurf
i'm sure my tints are illega. have owned the car for 4 years and never had a problem. got pulled over by an unmarked car once for a random breath test. the policeman had a little leather cap and a beard, looked like he had just stepped out of the blue oyster bar, but that's another story. he didn't mention the tinting even though it would have been obvious given that it is black on a white car. i honestly think the police generally have more important issues to deal with. that said, i'm sure they will go all out if they catch you for speeding, neg driving or a rediculously loud car. d-d
I used to have 38% tints on my R33, when i had to get a blue slip done the bloke friggin flipped his rocker and made me remove the tinting and get 20% tints instead. I mean it wasnt all that expensive to do, but it was still a pain in the arse. So from personal experience i say, go with the darkest legal tints for peace of mind. danh
i say go 5% on the rear quarts, 20% door windows and rear windshield i guess it depends what colour the car is, i have darkest legal on my black rexy and its definately not dark enough so the black 32 will get what i mentioned above ^ if the car is white then darkest legal look dark enough all in all its a matter or personal taste. if you want it to look like a tinted BMWs windows then go darker than legal, they must get a darker tint from the factory or something, but they're windows are nice..
