my cousin has a little mini, rebuilt engine with forged everything, ems computer, and t28 turbo sticking out of the bonnet, not street registered, has 9in wide wheels on the front and full flared gaurds to help traction makes about 200kw, never taken it to the track but will eventually, probably wont runa 10 but if he gets al 11 man im gonna build a mini for fun

i dont know

beacause the minis are so light it could be possible

but.................

it would have had to have drag slicks on at least to get it down in 10.1

and a huge motherass turbo with a wickedly tuned ecu tune/setup

you people are very naive.

i use to know a bloke with one in the 11s in the uk...

if you stick in a turbo or gassed busa bike motor, or a strong 1.3 mini motor turboed.

they are soo light.

11s and 10s arent impossible.

its just its not common.....

POWER - WEIGHT

Have just emailed a guy in the UK who builds a races minis for the quarter mile and while possible to do a 10.1 it would most likely need around 500bhp per tonne which is a little more than 150KW.

Here is his response to 150KW:

Only off a ****ing cliff doing a quarter mile downwards.

With 200bhp or less the best mini quarter mile time i know of is 11.7 seconds.

That was on drag hooisers, the car weighs less than HALF of what a standard mini does and it was the fastest FWD car in europe for several years.

(belongs to my friend carl)

That boy you are talking to has more chance of getting his car up his arse than getting it up the quarter that quick unless he is getting a tow off a top fueler or something!

That time is definately possible.

The car would have to be fully stripped, or more likely built as a tube frame, and running some pretty big numbers out of a turbo engine(I cant see 150 kw atw getting you there, but maybe), and with fat slicks. It all depends on how light it is. 400kg? 300kg? They are pretty f'ing light cars.

Also, changing the drivetrain of the car to RWD or AWD would help. I saw something on a mini panelvan/wagon that had been converted to rear-drive and it had a (I think) Rover V8 which was from memory either rear- or mid-mounted.

Don't underestimate the old things, a well prepped Mini would own a lot of decent cars on the right track.

I've seen a stripped out VW Golf GTI Mk I with two engines run an 11.something for the 1/4 mile. But a Mini running 10s... I seriously doubt it. A 150fwkW car will struggle to launch hard enough to get into 10s, there is not enough traction as the weight shifts to the rear of the car at takeoff. I know og a guy with a 150+fwkW Satria GTI (he claimed it went to 200fwkW but I never saw that dyno sheet) and the thing would never launch properly due to the weight transfer.

There used to be a blown 351 cleveland converted rwd with big ass tubs/slicks which used to hit the eastern creek drag strip back in the day i cant remember what kind of times it ran though prolly low 8's.

The driver sat in between the wheel arches in the car and the engine pertruded into the cabin. It was 1 mean ass mini.
