Let me just say - I DON'T UNDERSTAND

I have just fit a PFC to my R32 GTR - and have been keeping an eye on things

After adding some octane booster - my peak knock is now under 40 (read : 32) - even when driving VERY hard

BUT

I still notice the engine light comes on - usually at high RPM (7000+)

What does this mean - I thought the engine light was triggered by a knock reading of more the 60

what the ?

What else causes the engine light to flash ?

From what I have heard, newer software releases trigger the warning at 40 (unconfirmed by myself though).

On a side note, you shouldnt be driving/flogging a GTR on a base tune power fc, it specifically states in the manual (im pretty sure its in english) to drive it straight to a tuning shop.

NOT a base tune dude - pulled 304awkw @ Maxfix

I'll check injectors too next time

Power Fc's have Injector warning (for high duration), Knock warning (for excessive preignition) and Airflow warning (for excessive airflow). All of these have threshholds that trigger the dash warning light. The threshholds are adjustable.

High rpm could be either excessive injector duty or excessive airflow. Set the Commander into Monitor mode and check the readouts. From memory the default threshholds are;

1. Injectors 98.0

2. Knock 60

3 AFM 1020

Hope that was of some help:cheers:

Why does my engine light flash when I drive with the PowerFC?

The PowerFC uses the factory engine warning light to alert the user of "upper limit" or ceiling values in the engine systems.

Things such as airflow meter max value, injector max duty, excessive knock will cause the engine warning to flash. Usually the engine flash is

in a sequence of 3 flashes each 0.5 seconds apart. Should you experience this you should review the hand controller max values (press down when

in monitor mode and displaying values to see the max values for each) and consult your tuner immediately. Excessively high knock can cause

engine damage. Running on max injector duty can also be fatal so speak to your tuner. Aggressive tunes in winter tuned around winter

temps/airflow and being run hard in summer may cause these symptoms if the tune is very aggressive and on border line of maxing out the

stock components. This is only hearsay but I have seen this from at least one or two members.

    • See my post here If you put the Haltech in, you won't have to worry about any of that. And, in case you're worrying about my lack of credentials in doing your exact swap, I put a Neo in an R32. There has never been a stock boost solenoid near my car and the Neo's ECU has never cared. Nor should it, because it is electronically impossible for it to care.
    • That's 100% wrong. Did you wire in the boost sensor? If you did not, then that is 101% your answer. Neo ECUs do suck a bit.
    • Hello, I'm trying to make this thread basically the thread with all the answers to common questions regarding specifically the RB20 DE NEO + T engine, that comes in the R34. Answers will and only should be provided by those who have done this conversion or actually have some relevant real life experience please. Please feel free to ask questions in the comments if you have any so other members can answer. I feel like this thread is really needed, especially with more Americans buying (unknowingly going to regret it too) rb20 neo r34s. My first question being - What do you guys use for tuning? I have purchased a haltech elite 2500 Plug and play kit for the rb25det NEO because the ecu plug is the same, but I am unsure if any of the pins would need to be repined to match. Second question that I see asked very often - After this conversion, did you install the boost solenoid/ actuator? I see many people doing a + T setup on their rb20 NEOs while running stock RB25DET NEO ECUs with no tune. I am wondering how they are going about doing that and consistently abusing the car because many of these people have had these untuned setups running for a very long time. That was my original plan, but my engine cuts out at 5 psi of boost using the stock ecu with no tune and no boost solenoid/actuator.
    • interesting. ive read and heard otherwise over the past year. ive been doing this +t conversion on a rb20 neo using all oem rb25det neo parts including the ECU, and im having engine cut out issues when I hit around 5 psi of boost. Everywhere/everyone ive asked has told me its because I never wired in a boost solenoid/actuator to the ecu, so the ecu isn't getting the right signal once it hits 5 psi of boost, causing the engine to get shut off.
