My s2 R33 gtst is only running at about 3-4psi instead of the factory boost level. I can hear that there is a hole or some sort of leak somewhere near the engine.

Modifications include only exhaust and pod filter. I did have standard boost until this little problem.

I took it to a local exhaust place in brookvale and got him to have a quick look at it (after he told me he doesn't do turbo cars) and he said it seems to near the manifold. He recommened another local performance place called Joviant but unfortunatly there were closed yesturday and today.

I need to get it running properly before I start work at uni on or around the 7th Jan.

I've heard good things about Hills but have also heard they take forever and a day.

Does anyone know my what my problem is, and can they refer me to a perfomance mechanic near the northern beaches that doesn't charge like a wounded bull.

I prefer not going to the dealer in Manly I bought the car from. I remember him telling me there was a boost leak when he drove my car back from botany warf but said it was fixed. I guess he didn't do a good job or something because in the last week its come back and the car is out of warranty.

Which freeway was this?

If it was anywhere near Eastern Creek the other day for the track day I only saw the pink justjap car which stood out like an altar boy's errection. I also spotted a local GTR arriving at eastern creek as I was leaving (purple GTR with zila number plates - 400+ kw).

Sorry I seemed to ignore you (I didn't see you). I was more concered not ending up on some highway to hell. As mentioned in the eastern creek thread I had no map and was unable to find someone to follow. Thank God I saw the justjap car pull onto the m4 because I was traveling in the total opposite direction =)

I might have to get one of those GPS systems if I want to travel outside the safety of the northern beaches.

Sure it was me PVA?

Mark,I think it is your tube that runs to your BOV. Make sure it is connected all the way to the plenum chamber as the tube that comes of the plenum can be missed when putting back everything.

Give me a call and you can bring it round for me to look at.

Doc

Check the boost guage sensor near the brake powerbooster and see if the small hose has split.

I think the R33's are the same as the 32's in that aspect.

Does it still feel like it pulls the same or similiar?

If so that is what it is..

  • 5 weeks later...

hey dude, is it a boost leak or an exhaust leak?? coz if its dropped boost and the exhaust place has told you he doesnt fix turbo cars, i got my money on you have blown your manifold to turbo gasket.

keka18 you are correct.

In another thread I mention that I got it done at Envy Imports on the Northern Beaches. They charged me nothing to fix it because I have done business with them before and I also got a front/dump pipe + hi flow cat and they high flowed my turbo at the same time. They are also doing a FMIC for me within 2 weeks.

I've also got a leak at the muffler which they said to get fixed at any exhaust place, so when I get time (working 6 days a week to fund mods) I'll get that fixed too.

    • If you are fine with China turbos, Maxpeedingrods makes a bolt on turbo. Ive had mine for two summers now and it seems to be holding up ok.
    • Howdy all Im in a little predicament and wondering what everyone’s thoughts are? I’ve had my long block rebuilt and am in the market for a turbo due to my old one having metal shavings from crank bearings (cause of rebuild) go throughout the turbos oil lines and there wheel has a little play. I’m not really aiming for any power, just trying to keep it as oem as possible, but I can’t find a turbo that’s built for the stock ecu or find something that would be a standard replacement. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions
    • How's everyone going? Just a shout-out introducing myself. I'm James, I live on the north side of Brisbane. I bought an R33 that had been left to rot in someone's front yard for 14 years. Apparently, it has immobiliser/fuel issues. Long story short, it's suffering from a seized engine, plus whatever else turns up once it runs. The car is pretty good considering it sat for so long. It pretty much died after being imported. It has a bunch of Jap parts and a full Top Secret body kit. It's painted Fiat Turchese Festival, or aqua blue if you're not French. Another project to throw money at!
    • So the clockspring is responsible for the indicators cancelling on their own? I thought that was the function of that white thing in the center (any idea what it's called?)
    • Can you log IAT? Whilst WTA coolers have their place, doing any sort of sustained run is not one of them There are fixes that slow down the heat soak, like ice boxes, which don't last that long, and interchillers, which are fairly expensive, up grades to the WTA cooling radiator, which may require a bigger pump, and upgrades to the reservoir size,  and upgrades to the cooling fans, but, it all still heat soaks, and takes ages to come down in hot weather  For a turbo, that isn't locked into WTA like my PD blower is, can you not possibly swap to a nice air to air intercooler????, it would be better for sustained runs then, and have alot less things that could go wrong in my opinion
