hey peoples having problems installing the bosch 040.. ive got a r33 skyline series 2.. ive read a tutorial on the 989 or watever and yeah just few things im not sure of.

what im upto got everything off.. and hav found that the holder for the std fuel pump is way too small to fit the bosch 040.. so wat i have done is just bent the bottom bit straight and then just cable tied it to the pole.. is that alright to do?.

next thing is.. the positive and negative connectors to the actual pump.. ive stripped the wires and wrapped it around the connector and just put a bolt ontop of it.. is that ok? i have worries about it tho, cause the positive on the old pump was coverd with a black rubber however doesnt fit the new pump..

ive pretty much just replaced the std fuel pump with my new pump exactly. is that wat ur spose to do or are u meant to make modifications?. also ive found that the sock connected to the std fuel pump dont fit no where on the bosch 040.. am i spose to jus leave it off?..

what should i fix or be doing? thanks for your help guys.

most of that sounds right dude, there is nothing wrong with cable ties....they are designed to hold things and they do it well. as for the wiring....aslong as the positive is touching nothing but the postive terminal, it will be fine without the boot, the boot wouldve been there just to stop it coming in contact with anything. as for the sock....its purpose is to stop the pump sucking up any crap from the bottom of the tank....its probably a good idea to find a way to put it on or to think of something else..... even if you cut the adaptor off the sock and cable tie it directly to the inlet of the pump..

cheers

wazz....the fuel pump doesnt move around....i put a fuel pump in a mates 180, used cable ties....been over a year, hasnt moved at all....there is nothing wrong with zip ties. hose clamps can be over tightened and either damage the pump or the clamp, resulting in a useless clamp. why does everyone see zip ties as being dodgy??? why not get some aircraft grade T-Bolt hose clamps.

My opinion.....

1. Make sure the Bosch 040 is installed at the lowest point so it can be right near the bottom of the tank. Bending the cradle straight at the bottom is a good idea

2. Use electrical end terminals for the wiring part & soilder or crimp them.

3. Use nuts (stainless steel if you can) to place wire terminals on to pump

4. Use stainless steel clamps to hold the pump into place.

As for zip ties , I won't want that pump coming lose and the terminals moving about........bang.

I also wouldn't like anything contaminating my fuel, eg plastics, rust from metals.

Also the bosch 040 pump has a built in filter, no need for sock and the reason for it being mounted very low in tank.

Yeah I asked Bosch about the need for a sock on the bottom and they said it didn't need one. Stainless steel hose clamps are the go in my opinion. I bent the cradle out flat as well, then used the rubber base that the old pump was sitting on as a sort of 'cushion' to stop the 040 from making noise. Works really well, no noise at all until the car is almost out of fuel.

"The internet? They have that on computers now?"

    • Well, I'm not clicking on a link to f**king bookface (never have, never will), so I can't really know what the complaint here is about, but.... There's nothing particularly wrong with forcing people to have a higher license category to drive super/hypercars. Note that the laws are not about modified cars - only listed standard cars, because there are not supposed to be cars modified enough to meet the law's category limits anyway. If you have a modified car that falls into those power limits you're already in trouble anyway. What is wrong is the bullshit on-line "test" to get the upgrade, instead of any actual work and training.
    • Meh Don't have Facebook anymore but watched a YouTube about it, they also talked about them not being able to use and "sports" modes, not really sure how they would enforce that apart from logging the Db for the cars that have exhaust valve activation in sports mode Apart from all the high end sports cars and supercars that make the sort of power they are talking about standard, I cannot see it bothering anyone else, unless of course road side tests now include having a dyno and scales on site to test the power output vs weight What is it? 500hp per ton? And if the only additional cost is $60 or so, as the video stated, I cannot see that being a war stopper for the people that outlay a few hundred thousand dollars on a performance car In fact, I see it would be a ego boost for some, because they have a "special" drivers licence for a "special"person with a "special" car And if I did have a modified car that made over the limit, there's no way in hell I would apply for a "special" licence, I could see the authorities checking your licence against your rego, so if old mate applied for a licence, but owns a, say, R33 Skyline, that may trigger an inspection of said car as to why, and how, that old mate has a R33 that would fit the bill of making over 500hp per ton Again, meh, not something I believe will be a real issue to 99.9% of people

    • Hi, I'm a new member who has been lurking for a while. Ive been looking to buy an R32, 33 or 34. GTT/GTST for some time now. I'm close to pulling the pin on one,. My question is around roadworthy certificates in Victoria. What can you get away with as far as mods go?  Would a car pass RWC with a haltech dash, aftermarket manifold and high mount turbo as long as ride height and noise was ok? I come from a muscle car background, I'm learning more about our beloved Skylines as I go. I don't want to drop my savings on something to find out I need thousands to get it on the road. Cheers for any input/advice.
    • The first year I did Putty Road I was driving the old Honda Jazz work car. Being the rear vehicle of the 2nd or 3rd group to make sure no one got lost. The GTRs in front couldn't work out how I "was with them in the twisties"... They didn't like it when they found out I was only cruising and chilling in the Jazz like it was a Sunday drive with my Nan in the car.
